This is a pretty good deal considering it has a 6GB 1060 and a 120hz screen.

You can remove the bottom of this laptop to fit a msata SSD and more RAM.

You're brave posting a laptop without an SSD on here haha! Waiting for the inevitable comments. Good deal

Why oh why is there no SSD in this day and age

thinking of buying this. Will this play all the latest games on high settings 1080p?

Further £50 off if you're a student

I'd consider I7 version with 1050ti and 128gb ssd also. You might even get VR for £899

Pretty good for a G-Sync laptop!

Agreed and yes I bit. Good price for the spec but without a SSD it would do my head in

Yeah I got it. But my one had i7 and 128 ssd both useless to me.

I think its still a reasonable deal with that spec, and heat given, but I would be so disappointed if Santa delivered this and it took minutes to boot up lol

Your right lol it's difficult to justify either to vote up or down but 120hz panel and 1060m edition in a portable form factor could be a yes

Surely the 1060 is a better card? I don't mind not having an ssd. I can add one later?

Got pretty much exactly the same specs Omen except a GTX 1050 rather than the 1060, plus a 128GB SSD as well as the 1TB HD for £669 recently. Same processor and RAM...

I’m very happy with it but the only thing is it has a really weird enter key layout which makes me mistype all the time (and I can usually touch type v fast). Wish I’d kind of tried it before ordering as it might have put me off buying.

Had my eye on this for a while

Pros -

good build quality
high quality 120hz IPS screen with good colour accuracy
Easy to upgrade ram & storage
Well reviewed

Cons

Max Q GPU
No SSD
8GB ram

Why? 1050ti is a good bit slower, i7 will do almost nothing in games. If for gaming I'd definitely go for this.

Yes this will get you 1080/60 in pretty much everything. Having a 120hz gsync screen is significant. Seems a really good deal to me.

Spec fab but price is Omen!!

120hz on a laptop that will rarely if ever reach 120fps (on max settings) is s bit pointless tbh

It's my understanding gsync will only kick in if the games fps can match the screens refresh rate?

It is a good screen though if you do a bit of amateur design/photography work

Pretty sure it has MAX Q GPU

Shame about the lack of SSD, 8gb RAM and Max Q GFX card. Still decent though.

No ssd, only 8gb memory and also an i5. I'll pass

No gsync literally changes the screens refresh rate to the current output of the gpu. If you're at 90fps in game your screen is 90hz and that changes continuously so you never get any screen tearing or stuttering (well unless the game craps its pants and you get massive drops). Gsync switches off if you exceed the screens refresh rate.

A 1060 with get well in excess of 60fps in games that are a few years old no problem, Doom for example you're looking 80-100fps

G-sync sort of separates the game performance from the graphics performance, so the game will still feel smooth and snappy even if the frame rate drops. It means you can run at higher settings and play more demanding games, and even if it drops to like 25fps or something, it won't really matter - it'll still feel good and responsive and look real nice

Without this kind of tech the game runs at the speed of the display, which is why games *feel* bad and sluggish when you're getting low frame rates, and why performance can fluctuate a lot

From what I've heard, 25fps with gsync still feels like 25fps...in other words, terrible

Yes, the 1060 will give you far more of a performance boost in games than an i7. I'm not really sure why he suggested otherwise because the performance difference would be quite marked

Anyone that is worried about the MaxQ shouldn't be, the real world difference between this and the full fat version is negligible, only on certain games is there a difference of 3fps. If this is not good enough for you either then you will also be happy to know that you can overclock this GPU and increase its clock by 100-200 easily. Putting it back to full fat.

You are right 25fps is 25fps, however games do not run at an exact frame rate, it varies as you play. When this happens it causes frame stutter because of the difference between the frame and the refresh rate of the monitor. GSync matches the monitor refresh rate to the games frame rate so all gameplay is smooth without stutter This allows you to play games with up to 120fps and you will get no frame stutter. You do not need performance hindering vsync anymore freeing up more power and you will get no more screen tearing.

What this also means is that you do not have to have super powerful GPU's anymore that have to hit frame rates much higher than what you would like to achieve for a smooth experience. Now you can have lower powered cards like the 1060 running at max efficiency where the frame rate will be vary between 60and 120fps and have a silky smooth gaming experience.

If you have a card which can hit frame rates of over 60 which the 1060 can on most, if not all games then those frames are completely wasted on a 60hz panel.

120hz GSync is a game changer
