Doesn't seem a great bargain for an i5-based gaming laptop. For this kind of price, I'd expect at least the 4 GB version of the 1050.
Not a good price at all, my Lenovo has similar possibly better specs and I got it for 900 AUD about 3 months ago, you’re just paying for the Omen name at that point

Can't speak for the omen but HP laptops in general are good quality (if you are referring go aesthetics), the cases generally feel nice, the join lines meet tight, the keyboard is good, the screens are relatively good (unless you are used to / spoiled by IPS) and they just work (a lot of businesses use them).

What is your budget? I build using custom PC magazine's elite list, when I have a mo I could dig out this months recommended laptop (though it may be around two to three grand lol)

I'm looking for a good deal. Minimum configuration would be 7th gen i5, 1060, IPS, SSD boot drive which is on preorder on Scan for £900 (Asus ROG). However I would pay more if I would find something better with good discount. I may wait for black Friday (I'm not sure what sort of discount shops do on laptops). Also no MSI or Acer laptops. The idea is to replace my old and tired Q8300, HD6850 desktop and add portability.
Is there much diff between GTX 960m 4gb and GTX 1050 4gb??? Thanks.

is this asus rog the one on the other thread from saveonlaptops? Please can you link me to whatever you're talking about too
I have an omen i7 gaming laptop. Quality is good, screen brill (although some people reported light bleed around the base of the screen but not a problem I had). Only thing is...whilst I can touch type on all other computer keyboards and laptops I have ever had...the key layout is really screwy. It is just so unintuitive. The enter key is an odd size and shape and I constantly find myself miskeying. It's beginning to annoy so much that I'm thinking of using a plug in keyboard. So I would say go along and look at it in a shop before ordering because that might well have made me buy another brand.

I've always bought HP business hardware. The quality is always excellent. I don't know about the consumer grade stuff, but I expect it will be of similar quality.
does this definately have a IPS screen?
No stock anywhere. South west.
This was going for 599 in John Lewis about two months ago.

If I had 749 to spend, I'd buy a console for gaming. Xbox one s sub 200 notes. Lots of quality gaming can be picked up via eBay for cheap. Access to blue ray and 4k for Netflix . Then with 500 saved go on a return flight to Oz or some other holiday and not worry that every few months a better and faster gaming laptop comes out, and feel that the laptop is no longer the best spec for games.
u bought the non SSD version of this when it was on John Lewis for £600 (which was an absolute steal) but i needed to put an SSD in it to run games well, this is a great low end gaming laptop, Runs PUBG, Overwatch, CounterStrike and also a few low end Oculus Rift Games fine. Well Worth This Money too!

It wasn't the SSD model that JL had on sale. Still better value, but not quite the same thing.
Past one-off special deals aren't really relevant though - the question is can you buy better now for the same money?

If it is the 202na then it is definately and IPS - not the brightest screen in the world but very crisp.

Also a note to people - HP replaced this range of Omens (which came out earlier in the year) with the jetfighter styled ones - but they also hiked the price and lowered the spec so if you are looking for a budget lappy in this price range then these are the ones you want (not the ones with the angular screen bezel). You'll have to be quick though as theyve stopped producing the 202na

'Order now, collect immediately at Halifax Greenmount'

there are a few i think u are in an unlucky area

But i agree with the annoyance of argos for random stock areas
But there's a faster Xbox 1 coming out soon..... and looks like it's going to be replaced soon after (in console years anyway)

Excellent thankyou mate, I actually just played with the newer style one in John Lewis in Liverpool today which had an ips screen and that seemed a great screen so if its anything like that screen happy happy!

The TN screen can be replaced for about £40. Couple of screws and that is it. I have swapped mine and it is simply night and day.

Yeah - everyone has mentioned the low cost tn replacement, however the 4k ips has a larger SSD. 4k isn't necessary and makes the battery life awful but I've managed to find one anyway .

Also curious on the restrictions of a 120Hz panel replacement
Can't find any of these anywhere around the midlands. Sigh.
For £50 more, this deal is a hell of a lot better: hotukdeals.com/dea…601

I posted it last month, but it's back down to £799.97 again, which is cracking considering it's an i7-based laptop with the 4GB version of the 1050.

Nice price as long as you do not mind the TN panel.
