Any kind of deal regarding outdoor kit is sure draw snide comments from the pretentious Berghaus, Regatta and North Face hill walkers and leisure fiends....who feel they know it all becuse they have gone for a drive down to wales (or it's equivalent) then walked around for a bit, had a cappuccino..then sat in a traffic jam all the way back on a Sunday evening...

You have to realize that most of the negative comments are coming from people who believe if it isn't obscenely expensive, then it's no good.

True trekkers judge and test any piecce of gear on its own merit and … True trekkers judge and test any piecce of gear on its own merit and performance not marketting or price. This jacket probably cost the Jordy chappy about more than this after factory cost and import and is a marketting day offer gimmick so good for the price. If you have many of various quality jackets like me, no need to buy another but for a quick job to put in the boot or pannier or next to the umbrella tis a good buy. water resistence or proof means nothing, if you want to test something fill it with water and hang it in the bath and note the time it takes for it to leak and at what rate and draw a chart. all gear brands like Mountain warehouse Cotswalds etc are doing various "keeps rain out and lets perspiration mositure out" crap as you see in the diagram for this and they all call them different things which are made up. Most trekkers are not material experts and would easily spend 50 quid on this if it was called a wind jacket. this is a cheap and nasty average light rain jacket and good for average use in British climate. If you want to hike into remote areas or ride a motorbike and deliver parcels or pizza then this is not for that but for the average bloke this will do for an hour or two in not too heavy rain. apart form the usual nasty PUs with high hydrostatic head counts, there are 4 other waterproof (actally nothing is waterproof and breathable completely) materials but they will cost a ton or more. this is a basic bottom of the spec rain jacket and a bargain and if you are not getting it like me then dont compare it to mid range or truly expensive options.

    And breathe

Having to laugh at some of the comments on here about this being thin, of course it is thin, different jackets for different climates...

Does anyone actually READ the descriptions of jackets? Here we go, let me highlight important words in bold.

Protect yourself from the elements wearing the Mens Karrimor Taurus Jacket designed with WeatherTite fabric providing an optimum combination of breathability and shelter against the wind and rain. The mens water resistant jacket is completed with an interior mesh lining, zipped pockets and adjustable wrists and waist for a customised and comfortable fit.

    > Mens water resistant jacket
    > Lightweight
    > Full length zip with storm flap
    > Fold away hood with pull cords
    > Adjustable wrist fasteners
    > 2 zipped side pockets
    > Internal zipped chest pocket
    > Inner mesh lining
    > Drop tail
    > Adjustable waist toggle
    > WeatherTite fabric- Breathable, windproof and water resistant
    > Karrimor logos
    > 100% polyester
    > Machine washable

Its water resistant (in other words showerproof), it has a breathable mesh lining (in other words not a fleece or other therma material lining to keep you warm in the winter...in other words its an outer layer only)

Buy this if you want a cheap shower jacket shell, look elsewhere if you want a winter jacket, or combine it with a fleece by making sure you get the size right for bundling a fleece underneath.

Or if Karrimor is not your thing, simple do what I do and find your coat bargains elsewhere.

Voted hot for a cheap waterproof shower jacket..it is nothing more or nothing less.

Well said! However this is HUKD so any rubbish will get hot as long as it's cheap and/or a big 'discount' off some mythical RRP. Some people only learn the hard way - others never learn! This is probably OK value at the posted price but people expecting a £60 jacket are going to be sorely disappointed.

Its been said before but its worth mentioning again that sports direct own the karrimor brand since they went out of business in 2004. Karrimor stuff used to be a quality brand its not any more. £6 for a jacket is obviously good but I can assure you its rrp is inflated by sports direct. My gf got a pair of karrimor boots a year ago from sports direct since they were half price and I thought they were a great make made in the uk I grabbed a pair and went home. After checking up on them realised they were now under the sports direct ownership and made in china. They lasted 5 months and the liner started to come away.

Its just to let everyone know what they are buying into. Karrimor is not the great British brand you all remember its been bought by sports direct and now gets made abroad for a price

karrimor products are just awful. There s a reason sports direct stock so much of it. There jackets let rain through like a sieve and the soles fall off their shoes. Don't buy anything they claim is waterproof without checking the hydrostatic level.

    >5000, dont touch that ****
    5000 -10000, Average to good
10000+, buy that if you can

I'd buy a fleece of something like that, but nothing that was to come into direct contact with rain.

It is a shame that Sports Direct have bought effectively "logos" and cheapened the quality of several brands that went into receivership.

I am sure however this jacket will be of at least the same quality as the Aldi "Crane Sports"/Lidl specials when they have their walking gear seasonal offers.

Anyone that is buying on a budget would most likely prefer to have a once reputable brand logo emblazened on their jacket than "Crane Sports" and it is with this clever marketing that Sports Direct succeeds.
  31. CoCo_'s avatar
Please be aware guys when purchasing that this is water resistant and NOT water proof!

water resistance if for little bit of water / light rain. It can only resist a certain amount.

water proof is fully protected / heavy rain.

I said this about the No Fear 'ski' jacket on offer yesterday. At such a low price you can't go complaining when it leaks or freezes you from the inside Just sayin'

I disagree, and I speak as someone who climbed Skiddaw last year in George at Asda zipoff trousers and a Primark fleece!

You dress according to the conditions, so although this jacket would not be suitable for walking in torrential rain or blizzards, if the forecast is sunshine and showers, this would be an ideal lightweight jacket to pop into your rucksack to avoid getting a short drenching.
