£450 for a phone with a 1080p screen?
Edited by: "burns94" 20th Jun 2017
Personally 1080 is the ideal screen for me for a phone.

I don't use VR on my mobile.

I'll take battery life/performance all day.

I also ordered the Bundle of the case, headphones, protector and cable because that seemed like a good deal at around £30.

Expected delivery 23rd
At this price, it actually makes the Samsung Galaxy S8 seem good value!
reading through this I just think Android followers have been suckered in by manufacturers' marketing skills over the years to the point where they now sound like gaming rig nerds. All I'm hearing is 'blah blah blah this spec that spec'. Why don't people either a) enjoy the phone they have and not worry about it, b) give it a try before flaming it or c) just stay away? A good phone isn't just the sum of some specs. I had the S8 and S8+ and didn't get on with either. I'm now using an 'inferior' phone in the S7 - I must be mad, but to me it is just a nicer phone to use, regardless of its supposedly inferior specs. The Lenovo P2 feels faster than both the S8 and the S7 despite having 'inferior' specs anyway so a hell of a lot of importance should be placed on software and less on raw specs alone, which are almost meaningless most people on here as they don't play Crysis on their phones and often don't even keep them for more than six weeks.

As for iPhones - comparing the specs of an iPhone
versus an Android is just pointless as people are interested in the platform of iOS, not how much RAM it has. If you like and enjoy that ecosystem then you buy what's available rather than agonising over the screen resolution.

As for 1080p and 2K screens - who really cares? Is anyone using the rubbish VR on these things? I have excellent eyesight and in day to day use I can't tell the difference; and that's aside from the fact that Samsung now *defaults* to 1080p resolution even on their 2K screens - thus proving that the higher resolution is detrimental to performance and/or battery life.

PenTile screens (or variations) are on every AMOLED display because manufacturers can't (sensibly) use blue subpixels that are the same size as red and green. The last RGB stripe AMOLED that I know of was the Samsung S2 - which suffered the worst screen burn and colour deterioration over time that I've ever seen. It is my belief that this is why Samsung have never gone back to it.

I haven't bought a Oneplus since the Oneplus 2 but they are nice devices and they follow a certain set of ideas - personally I like the lack of SD and wish the S7 had stuck with the storage tiers offered with the S6 range. SD cards are unreliable and, to me, a faff. But that's just my opinion. If nothing else it proves that opinions differ and the right phone for one person isn't the right phone for another - regardless of the spec sheet.

Everything on it seems amazing.
That screen did shock me though.

Not very clued up on phones but that seems unusual these days?

Thats what i was thinking, but if its a decent 1080p screen id be happy with more battery life

been looking for a new phone for a while, didn't want apple (my work phone is an iphone anyway) and got sick of the samsung bloatware/ui.

not fussed whatsoever about the 1080 screen. on a 5.5 inch display that is more than enough, and it's AMOLED anyway so will look great.

great phone for the price, and looks the part too. just ordered the 6gb model as 8gb seems like overkill for £50 more.

only thing i'm not keen on is the raised camera bump, but i can get over that.

What was the code for the early delivery thing
Very disappointed. Poor quality screen. I've been using a 2k screen for years .... 1080 on a flagship device is such a poor decision. Nothing special with the dual camera setup either. anticlimactic

For £50 more, you get extra 64GB storage and 2GB RAM which to me is cheap.

Clearer Photos
Was very disappointed in it apart from the camera looked excellent.

Might as well either get a Galaxy S7 for a lot cheaper or save a little more for a Galaxy S8.

The OnePlus 5 looked ancient when they put it next to the Galaxy S8 in the launch with its massive bezels.

true, but personally i'm never going to use that much of either.

Prob could not have a higher resolution screen with the 3,300 battery.
Anyone else's order just showing "Pending Payment"?

PayPal shows the order went through fine?
Disappointing. Looks like my Redmi Note 4 wearing a pair of minion Goggles. I'm out.

mine said that for a few minutes. says payment processed now though. site is very busy
No waterproofing, that's a disappointment too?
sorry, but this lot have had their day, this is expensive for what it is and a 1080 screen is abysmal value....their customer service is horrible now!
My One plus One still going strong. Didn't notice a 4, did they skip that?

i generally avoid dropping my electronics in water so not a huge concern.

The customer service bit made me smile, "it's almost like a small friendship"

Just proof to me that phones really have not moved on very much the last few years. Still happy with my Z3 compact and S5.

£240 less than the s8 with (apart from the screen) sameor arguably better specs.

1080p doesn't matter on a phone unless you VR.

1440p is a redundant resolution.
Loved my 3T, given it away to a friend and now bought this!
I wouldn't buy this due to the after sales support (SW AND HW) and no waterproofing.

There is nothing wrong with the specs though.

Can't speak for their customer service but at this price it slowly creeping into being just another flagship rather than a flashship killer.

Price is what drove people to this line of phones and that is slowly going away. It has gone from $299 to $449 in the space of just 3 years.

What do you mean? Improving doesn't mean increasing cost.

So you think that the US has gone through 150% inflation in the last 3 years then?

The fact remains, just 3 years ago they put out a phone that could claim itself a flagship for a drastically lower price point. But now they are slowly reducing that price gap. It is still cheaper than leading brands, but it isn't drastically so and it is now not so much of a no-brainer to purchase this over the leading brands that it once was.
Does that code just allow you to buy now, or is there a discount as well?

Pentile one at that.

No SD card. No waterproofing. No daydream support. No OIS on the camera.

There is always a first and also very useful if you are out in the middle of nowhere and it's raining and you want to make a call as well as in steamy areas (like bathrooms).

RPI has only just been positive over the last few years. The other poster is right, as with the Moto G series in its niche the incredible pricing has been eroded which is what drew people originally. Arguably the Moto G Plus series ironically is now occupying the ground the One Plus used to hold.
