PRODUCT DETAILS
Onkyo G3 Smart Speaker with Google Assistance - White Introducing your voice-controlled lifestyle concierge with the Google Assistant built-in and enhanced by decades of Onkyo audio know-how to give music wings. Ask to play whatever you want through custom amp and long-throw woofer, or voice-control other speakers in a Chromecast built-in ecosystem when your hands are full. Experience the depth and power only Onkyo can bring to music.

The Onkyo G3 Smart Speaker has the Google Assistant built-in. You can stream music, find answers on Google Search, manage everyday tasks, and easily control smart devices around your home-simply by using your voice. Just say "Ok Google" to start a conversation with your Google Assistant.

The Google Assistant also integrates with apps for selected smart appliances, such as Philips Hue and SmartThings, to enable home automation by voice. You can ask the Google Assistant to dim the lights or adjust room temperature, for example.

The Google Home app sets up your G3 and tailors it to your family's needs. It helps you integrate your favourite music service apps for voice-automated streaming. You can also cast audio from supported mobile devices, laptops, and PCs by touching the "cast" icon within Chromecast-enabled apps. Pick up the speaker and hold it in your hand. You'll notice its weight. That's because it's built to sound better, creating a wide and deep sound field using a massive long-throw driver and soft-dome tweeter inside a tuned enclosure. Trust Onkyo's 70 years in audio to elevate the smart speaker experience

I bought both the Google (G3) and Alexa (P3) versions of the Onkyo speakers last week. They are Christmas present for my kids and i've only had a little time to play with them. My initial thoughts are:

Both devices are heavy and well made.
G3 is much easier to setup.
G3 has an internal PSU (uses figure 8 power cable) - P3 has quite a large power brick.
G3 looks neater - less buttons, ports, etc.
P3 sounds better - G3 seems more bass heavy.
P3 has much better connectivity options - AUX IN and OUT.
P3 can be setup as a stereo pair using the Onkyo Play-Fi app.
P3 needs two apps to setup, G3 is just done with Google Home.
P3 has flakey voice recognition - I'm getting long delays before receiving responses from Alexa, I haven't had time to investigate further.

Overall, I would say that the P3 is the better device (assuming I can fix the voice delay issue).
Hmm, buy this and sell my Sonos because I may be dead before it gets Google integration?

For the price its decent, I picked one up in the black Friday week off of richer sounds, and I wouldn't say it's worth rrp, but it's better than my Google home, which can be nabbed for £79, as it us much clearer at higher volumes (and goes much louder to). It doesn't have the ability to make calls though, that feature is solely for Google branded devices I'm informed.
Premium brand, still priced £199 at Currys or AO, but cheaper elsewhere. RRP inflated, but £50 is a very good price in my opinion.

Thanks. So other than calls it has the same functionality as a Google Home?
Same price at Richer Sounds (black only) if you'd prefer there.

*Edit: back to £100 on RS now.

Well worth £50. Probably the kitchen speaker I'd always wanted.
Bought one to replace my Google Home. Audio quality is a massive improvement!
I know it does not HAVE alexa but can I tell alexa to play on it?

I bought one from Richer Sounds for this price to replace the Sonos in the kitchen (because I can't cast iPlayer Radio to the Sonos). Well worth £50.
Thanks op, very interested. £2.99 delivery but that's all good.
Surely the 80's called saying they're missing a speaker

Bush, Alba standard brands? They're better than this unknown, although not as good as JVC or Hitachi, of course!
Also, is this made by Vestel?

You shouldn't need to cast to it for BBC radio just use Tunein Radio service on the Sonos itself

That's what I was doing - but you can only listen to live radio, not listen again content. Which I do a lot.
Thanks o.p.bought two.

I can't see how to do this with the G3 as there doesn't appear to be an option to do this in the Google Home app.

For the P3, you have to use Onkyo's version of the DTS Play-Fi app in addition to the Alexa app to setup it up. There is an option to pair speakers in Play-Fi app.
shame it looks so god damn ugly.

Nope. Which is shame as I'd love to set them up like that. Although option mentioned on other thread you could create a speaker group and cast to both simultaneously, but obviously no stereo effect. Maybe it's something Google will offer in future via cast.

Onkyo is a yoghurt brand, no?!
You can't adjust bass and treble with this unlike the home. Looks far better in the flesh, well built and great sound. On first use takes ages to update the firmware to a point you think there's a problem.
Cheers OP! Looking for a bathroom speaker and this will do fine :-)

Yes annoying. Google max does, but Google haven't enabled it on other speakers yet, perhaps for obvious (and annoying) reasons.
nearly bought, only no delivery to northern ireland or click and collects

heat added though
