Let the unknown brand jokes begin!! i know people will be sick of all these code deals but for £203.18 this seems like a real bargin.

Taking the hassle out of home cinema, Onkyo presents the HT-S3405 package: a full-featured AV Receiver coupled with a quality six-piece speaker set. To handle the latest Blu-ray, gaming, and cable/satellite devices, the receiver sports four new HDMI inputs.

I'd rather buy a Sony...

Are Akai and Aiwa still on the go?

I have an Onkyo AVR, it's an absolute monster, very powerful.

Trying to order but the checkout keeps failing on me

Edit - now failed on two mastercards and a visa debit - always at the verification point.

I would pay the extra as you get a usb on the front which will play and charge ipod/iphone or any other usb media player, also lan attachment to allow streaming of media from nas/computer etc

Just ordered using Visa Debit on 1st attempt (although did take approx 30 secs to verify). I even had it delivered to my work address just to complicate matters further but it still went through OK.

Great deal, will never be this price anywhere again!

This system has 3D pass through too which means you can connect your 3D equipment to it and it will send the 3D data on to your 3D TV without having millions of wires all over the place (everything plugs into this via HDMI then you just run 1 wire to the TV, easy peasy).

+1, was in the market for a good amp & speakers and the TX-NR509 seems worth the extra. Also was 300+ heat at £350 the other week, now only £280.

streaming of music only right? not movies over the system on the £280.00 system

I have finally managed to order one of these

I decided to opt for this over the more expensive NR509 - I wont use the streaming music facility, and I wont use the USB port so the only other real benefit would have been the active amp, but the environment I am going to use this in is quite small so I am just looking for the cheapest HDMI input surround sound amp with speakers I can find.

Will be replacing a Sony DAV-DZ260.

Same here, I've got so many devices that can do all this already I really don't need another. I have to have my sub in the corner of my room too so a passive one is plenty.

If I bought one of these, what would be the best way of connecting up my virgin tivo box and PS3?

Plug everything into this via HDMI then run a single HDMI to the TV, easy peasy. The great thing about this Amp (as I've already mentioned) is that it'll pass through 3D from the PS3 and TiVo to your TV (if you have a 3D TV of course).

Original Poster

i was tempted by the more expensive one but i only have a small room and if i stream music i do it via my 360 anyways

Cheers for that I'm really tempted by this now.

Would someone kindly tell me if this is suitable for...

Sony tv
Normal Dvd player.
Sky plus box.

I would be buying as an Xmas gift so wouldn't want to cock this up!

Thank you for any advice.

Anyone? Please? Pretty please?

I have added it to my basket and am hovering over whether to proceed!

Too late, I've bought it!

Actually not sure if I bought it or not.

The checkout is a bit odd.

Not sure if I input it again I will be charged twice.

Went through checkout three times and it remembered all my details except for the discount code so I have bloody paid the wrong amount. Hope they refund me the difference in the morning arrrrgh.

I know it's a bit late but yes it will be fine with your set up.

Hope you get the refund although I would probably ring customer services as I don't think it'll happen automatically.

Thank you steveu. The phone number is answerphone that says they open at 8, so.hopefully I will be able to speak to them then.

Update....

I have phoned and spoke to a lovely chap called Darren who is refunding me £50.00.

Very pleased. Much better customer service than the awful Viking Direct.

Delivery next Monday.

Thank you kaj for posting the deal.

Shame they are closing isn't it, glad you're sorted anyway.

I'd rather get Samsung ht-d455 5.1 for 217 at dixons or Samsung ht-d5100 for 229 at amazon.

Really tempted by this. Can anyone advise on how long the wires are. My living room isnt that big but have no carpet so would have to run them above doors and reckon that might be a problem of me running out of wire. I'm not clued up on this sort of thing at all - how easy is it to extend the wires for rear speakers?

Connecting an ONKYO to Sony equipment would be like a Ferrari towing a Skoda...

The cables that come with it arnt great quality, if they are too short you could just get a roll of cable, really isnt that expensive unless you go for the uber quality ones, but on this sort of budget it wouldnt be worth doing that!

and Onkyo are brilliant btw!

Is that the Samsung HT-D5100 with no HDMI inputs and only one optical digital in?

I have the older model of it and it AMAZING. So powerful and the sheer amount of inputs makes it an easy winner over anything Samsung or Sony have on the market. I purchased my system from Best Buy back in March so a little gutted to see such a low price now, but that will fade away once I fire up a few Blu-Rays

Good system but not much cheaper than other places.

LOL, so funny. Onkyo system I have also very nice indeed. Can't help but smile when I see a Sony or a Samsung at a friends place.

a lot of people are onkyo bummers on here though.

What happened to all the Loughborough Guy jokes? Is that all you have to offer? Pretty poor performance

I'd rather have an Alba.

Being serious now, is that 4 usable HDMI ports (Apple TV, Xbox 360, PS3 + Sky), or would one of the ports be used to hook it up to the TV making it 3 usable, or is there a dedicated one for that?

--edit--

Just answered my own question, it is 4 usable.

One dedicated HDMI out thru port. 4 Input ports - you select which one to view on the amp front panel. If your TV supports RIHD then the amp will control your TV source automatically. Otherwise you will have to select source on the TV as well.
