Movies are mixed to be played loud, at a cinema. That's the same with any system without processing to reduce the dynamic range. Check to see if it has a night mode or dynamic volume. This will quiet down the explosions and boost the quiet scenes. (edited)
My deepest and heartfelt thanks for preserving this little bit of HUKD folklore, and posting it where ever necessary
You want all the latest surround sound formats: Dolby Atmos, DTS: X. You want 4k 120hz passthrough if you're a PS5/Xbox Series X gamer. And you want multiple HDMI 2.2 inputs to ensure you've enough capacity for current and future devices.
You might consider receivers that offer environment-assessment technologies so it can cater the sound profile based on the acoustics and dimensions of the room to optimise the sound for you.
Wireless technologies are out there for wireless surround/rears speakers, that can be great for rooms where cables can't be buried/hidden.
You might also look at fan noise and energy consumption.
it’s gotta be 10+ years ago hasn’t it?! (edited)

SAISHO- wow. That's a blast from the past. Wasn't it Dixons that sold them?
I only come on these threads to see the latest edition in the chronicle
Wow, 12 years have passed (edited)
12 year anniversary coming up
I even made LG his own logo back in the day, it might still be buried in another Onkyo deal somewhere.
Found the original file (created July 2011) for your amusement/archive purposes.

❤️👌
and Matsui, i had a cassette player loooong ago.
Most modern amps have so much wasted empty space inside. They could easily be shrunk to be more sleek and compact. They keep them big to appeal to audiophools who think bigger is better. Same with the boxy aesthetics, zillions of pointless RCA connection ports that never get used, and 80s-style dot-matrix LCD screens when it would only cost them pennies more to use a high resolution OLED display instead. Nostalgia amongst boomers is a big seller, that's why they still look the same as amps from 40 years ago.

Try dissipating 5x155 Watts in package the size of a phone. 🔥
Nah, been going for years
Yes
Yep... End of an era.

That’s a different setting. AV AMPs normally have a Night mode which compensates for dynamic range, when played at a low volume. (edited)
Not financial advice but I think you can trade them in for some Aiwa or alba shares
