If you came in here to question Onkyo's legitimacy as a brand, please turn around and walk out

Otherwise, enjoy.

You get two speakers at the back, two at the front and one centre. The two at the front have two drivers. Forward-facing and upwards. The latter is the Dolby Atmos.

The front speakers are fairly large, btw. This set is ideal for those that just bought a a 4k tv and want a high quality Atmos setup to begin with.

So all 7.1 receivers support Atmos?

If it says atmos then yes as they won't specifically say 5.1.2 or 5.1.4 but they will just say how many channels they have e.g. 7, 9 etc..... with some avrs 7.1 can be atoms our can be surround backs but within the system you can select how you have them set up

It's sold as a 5.1.2 system, because it's Atmos supported, and the front speakers have ceiling facing speakers. Yes it's technically 7.1 channels, but to differentiate between them, we use 5.1.2

I know its 5.1.2 as the fronts have up firing "Atmos enabled" speakers. I was just saying saying theres 7 channels
Rev6 is correct, if you had of put 7.1 it might have confused people with onkyo's 7.1 system which is significantly more expensive than this one, it's important to get things correct. Anyway probably the best value for money Atmos setup if your happy to run wires

I have this system, it's frigging amazing and the sound is awesome.
Onkyo!! Could anyone recommend a known brand?

Seriously though, I've finally upgraded my 11 year old plasma to a shiny 65" OLED. However my 11 year old 5.1 Onkyo doesn't do 4K pass through. So thinking of upgrading, I'm thinking about either a sound bar or a new Receiver, either keeping my current Jamo A102HCS5 5.1 speakers or changing speakers too.

Any recommendations?

Nope that's not it different brand. Try again
Fantastic system, I've had it for over a year and with Atmos content it is phenomenal, I switched from a tannoy 5.1 setup that cost considerably more and haven't been disappointed. Also worth mentioning as online there is some misinformation regarding HDR passthrough, I pass my Xbox one X and Panasonic 4k blu ray machine through the receiver and HDR works just fine so did my ps4 pro when I had one, I paid £590, great deal especially if you're considering spending more or similar on an Atmos soundbar this thing is in a different league.
An old man once gave me some good advice: if you buy random junk, expect to get burnt.

Was he talking from a bush?
Has anyone else noticed, the pictures on Amazon and Richer Sounds are of the wrong receiver?

Yep. Some are saying no HDR online. Also, the datasheet says no HDR too. Both are incorrect. There is indeed HDR passthrough. Thanks for reminding me about this.
Voted hot, probably the cheapest Dolby Atmos system alongside the wireless Damson I posted last week. I like this one more, but I prefer Damson's wireless functionality.

Yes it was a choice between these two for me. I don't trust wireless systems when it comes to sync. i went for this one for that reason

I did not go for any yet. I believe this one is better, but I hate cables and got small children messing with wires regardless where I hide them. I prefer the wireless one for this reason, but decided to wait, hopefully will drop close to £400 which is the price I am willing to pay.

This includes a receiver. That one doesn't iirc
Stick with proper brands like Sony, Panasonic, Technics etc, these fringe unheard of products are crap and will break

Peter Tyson has the Onkyo HT-S7805 for £749 at the moment, does anybody have any experience with these two models?

I almost bought the 7805 last night but held off while looking into separates but going down that route is going to be more expensive and a lot more hassle, it will probably sound better but I'm not an audiophile so I'm unlikely to really notice the difference.

I believe the 7805 is 130W versus 100W for the 5805 and the receiver is a HT-R695 versus a HT-R494 with the 695 offering twice as many HDMI ports (In and Out) and DTS:X among other things.

As you can probably tell I'm not really that up on sound tech but I'm looking for something that will make films on my new TV shine without breaking the bank (I did that when I bought the TV), any advice would be appreciated.

I think - could be wrong - the r695 has connectivity, such as an ethernet port and maybe wifi. This one doesn't.
