This is a bit niche but if you purchased a dolby atmos capable reciever in any of the recent deals (the denon and sony deals come to mind) these speakers might be of interest to you. They get good reviews on the Amazon.co.uk site but are available cheaper on the amazon.fr site. Check the amazon uk site for a full description.

some of the reviews say because it's passive, it's just normal speakers pointing upwards.
any speaker can do that and doesn't need to have an Atmos sticker.
anyone know?
Fantastic
Not very good IMO. If you have the spare channels setup a 7.1 / 7.2

These are not front main speakers but are effects speakers.

Absolutely. It seems 'Atmos enabled' is little more than sales speak

i was running 7.1 then upgraded to 5.1.2 and i found it better
over the past 12 months I’ve managed to upgrade to 7.2.4 using the Elac upfiring atmos
and the sound is just incredible now
would definitely recommend atmos

I wouldn't comment had i not a capable receiver and blu ray\uhd. They just don't add any atmosphere which is the intention right? I have no doubt atmos itself is great but not on this budget, people talk about the immense (atmos) rain scene in John wick, it just doesn't happen with these as an example.

What do you watch in atmos? Only thing stopping me upgrading from 7.1 is that I dont think I have any Atmos content.

Don't bother . Stick to DTS HD MA , I don't think home budgets can do these things justice just yet. If the sound was direct then maybe but the fact these have to hit the ceiling and bounce I don't see the point. Now if you have dedicated ceiling mount speakers I have no doubt my point is moot.

I’m using sky Q as football and movies and the the odd box set are now in Dolby Atmos
and the oppo 203 for 4k movies
‘don’t buy many 4k movies but my favourites for the atmos are Everest , deep water horizon ,king Kong and ghost in shell
the atmos sounds great in all these movies

Wtf. Until now i only knew that it was x.x. Where did the third x and second dot come from. At least it could have waited until i reach the first dot

Bought these to use with an Onkyo atmos receiver - didn't feel they added anything at all, got rid of them shortly after. Sound quality is tinny and sound just like a poor, small speaker.

This could have been due to the shape of my room but it felt like a waste of money. Maybe someone else may have better luck
Genuine question: I already have a 7.2 setup, if I were to migrate to an Atmos amp, could I just angle my two side-rear speakers upwards towards the ceiling and achieve the same effect?

It certainly was, thanks.

I could have bought so many Atmos enabled amps, but I prefer my 7.2 - I don't want to lose the second sub. My current setup is powered by a gaming rig which was recently updated to include Atmos, but I think you've got to buy a licence for it as well. I've also heard that the Windows Sonic was sometimes perceived to be better than Atmos in the headphone world.

Ideally you want a right one as well.
Do these need a power source for each speaker ?

I had the Elac Debut A4 on top of my front Yamahas and just didn't feel i was getting much from them so today i installed Dali Alteco C1s on the wall close to the ceiling damn San Andreas sounds good in Atmos . Selling the Elacs as its better to have wedge shape atmos speakers that can be wall mounted like the Dalis, SVS etc... but obviously ceiling speakers are best.

Did you try mounting them?

Note I'm far from a audiophille but have read that this may make a difference.

You could put your rear speakers as front height speakers to acheive a similar effect.

They were just placed on top of my floor standers at the front, so could well make a difference.

Although, for 100 quid you'd be better off buying some small bookshelves and angling them
Horrible little speakers, they do add height to the sound stage , but the sound quality is tiny to say the least and very poor , £10 boom boxes sound better and more likely will degrade the rest of your system. After 1 week I got rid of mine and bought ELAC A4, the difference was night and day. Few months and 4 physical overhead speakers later and I finally can say I can fully appreciate ATMOS at home, it sounds stunning. If you want proper ATMOS install speakers on the ceiling , there is really no competition between the 2 once you have heard both.

Agreed , Firing speakers upwards is very hit and miss as there are so many influencing factors such as size of room, shape of room, acoustics and sound reflection to name a few.
The only way to experience Atmos properly is downward firing close at the audience or staggered if using multiple speakers.
