Good price seeing as it got hot only a week ago when it was £323

Now almost £20 cheaper than eBay. Just not sure whether to take the bait or hold on until they start their 50%+ reductions, probably just after christmas assuming all the best stuff has not gone by then.

Just tried to order this and got a checkout failure, twice - possibly their promos aren't yet set up or they're hating on me:

Been getting the same with a different product, tried 3 different cards to no avail.

This any better or worse?

This only works out at £200! Seems a bargain but is it worth spending a bit more? Any help appreciated as I'm new to surround sound? Thanks

It's a good system but I wouldn't buy of bestbuy right now...

i really want one of these systems !

Spoke to BestBuy - they reckon that if your delivery address is different to the payment cards billing address this will cause this failure.

I also spoke to my card provider and they advise that they are sending Best Buy authorisation codes for the attempted transactions.

Surely you would be using the HDMI for the PS3?

What does the B mean on these? I keep seeing the same model numbers but some with a B on the end?

Cheers
MMM

B stands for black. The 579 model is much better but they only do silver !

Is HMDI sound better than Optical ?! - sorry Im a newb too all this

Without a doubt, with HDMI you will get all sound types including DTS-HD and DD-HD, with optical you will only get normal DTS and normal DD.

Wherever possible you should always use HDMI over Optical for sound.

Edit you will want Optical for the Sky box, as on their HDMI only does Stereo whereas the optical can do DD Surround.

So the best setup for those two devices is

Sky - Video via HDMI, audio via Optical
PS3 - Both video and audio via HDMI.

If you pay by credit card then they are responsible for the sale of goods act, otherwise it would be Onkyo for as long as the manufacturers guarantee lasts (keep the receipt for gods sake though).

I would buy this if it wasn't with best buy don't have a Credit Card (don't really want one either)...just don't want to buy it, they pack up shop, then i have a problem and im stuck with an expensive door stop

Bargain !!

Shame I bought one last week for 313 inc. quidco.

how much are the speakers worth?

which is better active or passive amps

how much are the speakers worth?

Thats what I was thinking too.. The subwoofer is only passive. An active sub delivers much better sound.

Im planning to use my Jamo speaker set with this amp so the included speakers are no good to me.

Cracking price though and heat added, but still wondering how much the speaker set that comes wth it is worth......

The subwoofer is not passive. It is an active subwoofer and it is a big one.
If you buy the receiver and speakers separately 279+149= 428 pounds.
I bet it is gonna be out of stock very soon.

Just a quick question.. I've connected my Sony tv to aerial using coax to get freeview hd... How would I go about connecting to the onkyo?

Would the aerial input go into amp then output with hdmi cable? I imagine to get freeview hd I leave the aerial input to tv and then output from tv for sound to amp using optical or something? Sorry for my ignorance on this.. just a little confused.

Thanks in advance

just an optical cable from tv optical out to onkyo optical input.

Thank you very much for your advice.. so at least it seems simple to do then.. I was just reading the spec and read this, wondering if it maybe possible it can get the audio from the single hdmi? It says

Audio Return Channel allows audio content received directly by your HDTV’s tuner to be sent “upstream” via HDMI to your A/V receiver, without the need for a separate S/PDIF audio cable.

Providing your TV supports ARC then yes this would be the best way to do this.

Ah, sorry.. must have misread info somewhere (possibly post number 14).

Anyone know how the speakers set compares to the Jamo stuff ?

The speaker models are:

SKF-548 L/R (Fronts)
SKC-548 (Centre)
SKR-548 L/R (Rears)
SKW-501E (Sub) (Active Sub)

Hope thats useful to people.

I bought this for the £323 price, and bestbuy wont match themselves. Im not that bothered though. Im thoroughly enjoying it.
