Okay so it's only £3 cheaper than the next deal, but £329 was already a good price so £326 seems even better - plus Amazon support for prime shipping & returns.

Scored 4/5 on What HiFi - but also on their 'Best Buy 2019' list when priced at £370. Secures typically 4.5-5/5 on Amazon, Richer Sounds etc. I think at this price point I might pick myself

Been that price for weeks
I prefer yakult.
Got this model about a year ago for a similar price. Excellent system. Got two zones set up, and it drives a projector with an Nvidia shield. Brilliant.

Great sound but good luck getting ARC to work with it.

ARC is not implemented properly as a standard with all tv manufacturers so I'd always use the amp as the source and only use the tv for output.
1% discount?
Wasn’t impressed with this brand, had a lot of problems with the last one I bought, hdmis failing and long start up times which eventually led to it not starting at all

Yes, was open about it. It's already been reduced but when looking at buying saw a tad more so wanted to share. I've bought and thought others might find it of interest also. Appreciate it's not bargain of the year but just trying to give back where I can!

Except if you're watching anything with the TV as a source with an atmos mix (certain Netflix films for example) you won't actually get an atmos output through the receiver if you don't use ARC. Optical would just give a decent 5.1.2 mix.
This is a good price for the spec you get but not sure I would go with onkyo again. I had the 646 and had to get it repaired just after a year as it started to make some weird buzzing sounds. Eventually replaced with a denon and not a single issue since.
I have some pillows that would go great with this.
I got my year or so ago open box, it's all good tho I had to use yahama mic go set up it,cause it hasn't got one and after going back, all I got was Yamaha Mike and kept being told it would do job
I have been researching my new AV for some time now, this is great bang for your buck with THX cert, all the latest formats and full fat connections and passthrough

I almost pulled the trigger on specs alone until I found out on various forums that the onkyo calibration system is truly awful "they previously used audyssey"

This is a big reason why the price has plummeted on this "been at this price for some time btw"

My current onkyo has developed a fault but it is 7 years old and was grand up until then

For the price it is hard to compare but I would spend an extra £60 on the marantz 1609 "if your room is not large" or go for the Denon 2600 at £125 more

But I just said not all TVs implement arc properly as a standard. If you have a Toshiba (like I do) then you can't get anything more than stereo through its arc.

Check your tv before you believe a £1000 receiver will solve all your problems.

It's a big fat mess.
I've had an Onkyo before and it failed on a main component (HDMI Board) , upon checking online I found out that its a common problem with MANY Onkyo AV units, anyway I replaced it with a Denon and never looked back! Much better IMO.

This isn't a £1000 receiver though is it. I had the 686 from Richer Sounds and the audio through ARC would randomly not work. Sometimes it would, sometimes it wouldn't. Took it back and replaced it with a Pioneer LX303 and I've had no problems at all. It's the amp with the problem and there are literally hundreds of posts on reddit with people saying they've had the same issues with this receiver.

Friend, I'm not saying this is a £1000 receiver. I'm saying that even if you spend £1000 on a receiver which is supposed to do everything, you should still check that your tv can do what you're expecting before thinking that your receiver is all you need to check.

I'm also not saying that this receiver's arc implementation is perfect, I'm saying that one should check tv IN ADDITION to checking a receiver
I've had the 646 for 4 years and from time to time ARC doesn't work for TV. I press the AV Button and then quickly press the TV button on my Panasonic TV remote and it kicks into life.
My 7 year old onkyos ARC works very well and never skipped but I cannot talk for this model
I picked a 949 last week for £225 from Amazon Warehouse. I fancied the 686 but couldn’t justify the extra cost for me.
Once Santa lets me unwrap mine I’m sure it’ll be fine.

Can you give me some info on the two zone capability; can it play content from HDMI source in zone 2? instructions say no, I've seen people on forums claim yes.

I usually use Cloud music (Amazon, etc.) in zone 2. But the option is there in the app (see photo).

Yeah, I think that is via RCA connections though.
I have an old onkyo 606 which has had a hdmi no signal problem for years. It eventually handshakes after about 5mins but its annoying. Its a great amp but my next will be another brand.
Will this passthrough Dolby Vision?
