Onkyo stresses that while the SR608 is an "entry level" AV receiver, its capabilities are far from ordinary with six HDMI 1.4 inputs, 1080p HDMI upscaling, 7.2 channel audio, 160W per channel and the latest HD sound modes. HDMI 1.4a also brings compatibility with the new 3D video format, as well as an Audio Return Channel from your display back to the receiver.

Complementing HDMI on the input front, you have an analog RGB video input for connecting your PC, and a Universal Port for Onkyo peripherals. All video sources, regardless of resolution, can be upscaled to big and beautiful 1080p via HDMI and Faroudja DCDi Cinema.

Audio processing incorporates quality Burr-Brown DACs, lossless Dolby and DTS codecs, and the expanded surround formats of Audyssey DSX™ and Dolby Pro Logic® IIz. Three-stage inverted Darlington circuitry and jitter-cleaning technology work to ensure extremely precise and faithful amplification. In recognition of the TX-SR608’s outstanding A/V prowess, it has been awarded THX® Select2 Plus Certification.

See you there!

Someone has been converted.

Never heard of them - save your money and buy Sony people.

I bought one of these about a month ago from richersounds as I was interested in a clearance 607 but they didn`t have any. I said at the time what about 608 then and he said its 450. I had seen it for 400 on special on another website and they agreed to sell it to me for £389! So go to richersounds if you have one near you.

Threads like this always make me laugh, I got an Onkyo TX-SR605 from Richer Sounds and I've been very happy with it. Only reason I would think about buying a new one is for more HDMI inputs and 1.4 compatibility.
Exceptionally tempted at this price, was sorely tempted when Richer Sounds were offering a free ipod dock @ £449 but I think that deal is over. I'm guessing the ebay purchase was a best offer deal as the recons are £349 on ebay atmo.

Thanks for the tip

there are cheaper ways to fry an egg! no, good deal if you like Onkyo, but why buy this over the yamaha 667 - which is also £50 cheaper...

LOL, irony.

looks like they are trying to compete with the £100 price drop of the Yamaha 667 but with the 667 at £349.99 I still feel that is a better option. However, I can't find this one cheaper at the moment, these guys did have it for £389.99 but that only lasted 3 days before the price went back up exceptional-av.co.uk/pro…392 Heat Added

I've got one of these and paid a fair bit more, hot deal and if you're in the market it's a great amp.

Yam only has 4 hdmi inputs and is lower rated output also not as good VP capabilities so the Onkyo def worth the extra £50

nah better stick with Sony..

JOKE!! put your guns away

Never disappoints.

For what it's worth you can use the discount code "birthday" to get £10 off any order over £60

Ends tonight i think.

I bought one of these at RS last week, I got them down to £410 (so that made £450 with the 5 year warranty) Wish I'd waited a week now.

This is a great sounding amp and if you're just sticking HDMI's into it I'd say it's perfect for you. I had some troubles with mine because my media centre (original xbox running XBMC) uses components and this amp just couldn't handle the switching resolutions when it was trying to upscale. Turning off all upscaling has sorted it.

It's a better sounding 7.2 amp than any other brand at this price point and it's THX certified. What more do you want?

In fairness to Onkyo they have actually incorporated this year in their SRxx8 range a cooling fan.

But you still have to question why one is necessary, it has been stated before that it is the upscaling chipset that creates the heat...if this is so, how come Sony, Pioneer, Yamaha, Denon, Marantz et all don't run so damned hot.

Prevention is better than cure, and that's what puts me off Onkyo personally, but one thing you do get with Onkyo always is plenty of inputs if thats what your main priority is.

Can l plug my 8 track into this.

its a great name susie loves it too

nooooooo, i cant believe you've ordered one of these... for £10 more you could have had a sony! lmao

Got one for about £400 as part of a package. Absolutely stonking piece of kit and cannot be faulted on bit. Has received top reviews on Whathifi and I have not read one bad thing about is vs any sub £1000 AV amplifier.

The word Onkyo translates as "sound harmony" for those that find the name a little odd

Yamaha has 5 actually and I take it you have compared the two side by side and taken your speakers into account or are you swayed by big numbers

I have heard both and if the Yamaha was £50 more than £50 less it would still win for me, it is down to personal choice...

Got one yesterday for £389 - Thank you!

However just noticed that the price has came up to £449 - expired?
