Home Cinema System, consisting of the 7.1 sound Onkyo TXSR506 AV Receiver and the Tannoy SFX speaker system. Stylish and flexible (see options in order box at foot of page).

Pictured above with optional 7.1 upgrade (an extra pair of satellite speakers).

ONKYO TXSR506:

Based on the hugely successful TXSR505, the Onkyo TXSR506 is a 7.1 channel home cinema receiver featuring an excellent feature count for the price. Superb Onkyo design and build quality make this a great buy.

Three HDMI inputs and one output (supporting 1080p pass-through switching) make the TXSR-506 ideal for use with DVD or Blu-ray. There's also component video, S-Video and composite video inputs and outputs.

The TX-SR506 features a myriad of audio options. It can be configured for 7.1, 5.1 with or without bi-amplified front speakers and also features both a second zone speaker out and line out. There's decoding of Dolby Digital and DTS and the good selection of equalisation modes allow you to tune the TXSR506's sound to your listening taste. The advanced Audyssey 2EQ auto-microphone calibration system also makes set-up a breeze - plug in the microphone, push a few buttons on the remote, and the system is ready to go.

With a stylish design and top-notch performance, the Onkyo TXSR506 is a superb choice for those wanting a feature packed but affordable home cinema hub.

TANNOY SFX5.1

The SFX 5.1 Speaker System from Tannoy is an elegant and discrete home cinema speaker package solution which represents great value for money. Four attractively designed satellites and a dedicated centre speaker provide excellent surround sound that will immerse you in the movie soundtrack, whilst the powerful subwoofer delivers impressive bass to make those explosions sound even more realistic. The ultra-wide frequency response of the SFX5.1 is perfect for DVD-Audio and SACD and ensures that both movies and music sound fantastic.

The compact satellites can be discretely placed around the living room and the included brackets mean that you can mount them on the wall to avoid taking up valuable shelf space. Optional stands are also available for maximum flexibility.

If 5.1 isn't enough for you that's not a problem, because optional additional speakers enable 6.1 or 7.1 upgrades and improved performance.

Hot Deal

was looking for the 606 but this looks like an awesome deal

Can anyone explain what hdmi only being a bypass means? As i am thinking of getting this to go with a 50" plasma & blu-ray player, only i see they do the blu-ray surround systems now & am unclear whats what really,as shops seem to be desperate to get rid of surround systems right now.Is this because they dont always work with all blu-ray?(unless an actual blu-ray surround)Sorry if this makes no sense,as i dont have much tech knowledge:?

Please someone correct me if I'm wrong but i believe that HDMI passthrough means that if you conenct a device to this with just a HDMI cable the Audio/ is not decoded by the amp just outputted as it is received. This means you need to make sure the Bluray player can itself decode the codecs on discs you wish to playback.

You can connect just HDMI for video and an optical for audio and the Onkyo will then decode the audio tracks itself.

EDIT: IGNORE MY POST IF YOU READ IT BEFORE I DELETED IT

From the Onkyo website

Advanced Features
HDMI Pass-Thru (1080p Compatible; 3 Inputs and 1 Output)*

* A separate audio connection is necessary to process multichannel audio.

It seems it does simply bypass the amp and is a simple passthrough of the hdmi signal.

Yep, you'll need to pick up optical cables to get the sound to the amp. I have been looking for an amp to hook up to my PS3 and I've seen comments to the effect that optical is not 'good enough', ie does not have enough bandwidth, to carry HD audio. Whether that bothers you is a good question, but worth considering if you want the best of the best.

Good package tho, voted hot.

ive been reading the onkyo website and i think you would need to have the 606 to be able to do away with the optical cable and just use HDMI leads.

I have this amp paired up with Jamo A102's.

It is a fantastic piece of kit for an entry level amp.

Why has this been expired? It's still available.

Same here, but I've got the 606, purely so I didn't have to mess around with seperate audio cables. I also got Richer Sounds to price match it down to £330, which is always nice.

WOW! Would love to get my hands on one of these, but sadly the flat is small and might annoy the neighbours! But definitely a must have!

Are you sure about that, I always thought it meant you connected three sources to the amp, choose between them and the amp outputs that audio stream and passes the corresponding video to your monitor. I'm no authority but I'd be keen to know if I've misunderstood

still prefer z-5500's to these and half of the money for them too

Yea I am looking for a similar kit at the moment, and I was told the same at richersound.
The other option would be the 606 as stated previously.

I am now going to go for the Denon 1909, for 299 from RS. Seems to be a better investment that buying this kit and then being annoyed by all the stuff in can't do.

i wish people would do some proper reserch first before making comments , as an entry level this is a great amp , what wont it do , true hd , whats that ? blur ray , you gota ps3 go through spdif , would you tell the difference between this and the 606 ( will decode true hd sound ) speak to the experts and they will confirm , NO . you want proper high end sound then go and spend high end £`s . For anyone wanting a cheap way in to seperates in home cinema this would be ideal.

sorry but this is a world apart from the Z-5500's

I have just bought the 606 for £295 with some Jamo A102's for £180

Hot deal though

Really nice deal, I bought the Tannoy SFX5.1 for £199 on offer back in June '08.

I use it with the Pioneer VSX1017 amp which was on offer for £239.

You otherwise need the Onkyo TX-SR576 av receiver or above to accept decoded surround audio over hdmi (for use with say the PS3 and hd audio). As mentioned earlier the lower model only does pass-through of the audio, however also present on this particular av receiver are a set of multi-channel analogue outputs for passing decoded hd audio from a suitable standalone blu ray player. So you could if you wish connect it to a model such as the ]Sony BDP-S550 (with it's matching set of analogue outputs).

Another option potentially would be the Sony STR-DG820 from ]Richer Sounds and then the Tannoy SFX5.1 speaker package from the same store using their pricebeat service against ]Superfi thus saving you £63.19 off their normal in-store price. The total would be £366.71 (- the speakers are supplied with 25m of basic speaker cable, but you would need a sub cable as I don't think one is bundled). This particular av reciever does support surround audio over hdmi, making it a good match with the PS3 or more budget blu ray players such as the Sony 350 or Panasonic BD35 for example.

Regardless, a nice bundle at a good price so I voted hot.

Dude, I've been researching for a new Amp for a while. I didn't say it was a bad deal, All I said was it was better to invest in something a bit better (IMHO)....and I don't want to be buying another amp in 2 years time...

I have just bought the 606 for £295 with some Jamo A102's for £180

Where did you get your Jamo a102 from? It's seems imposible to find them in stock anywhere.
Also, are you happy with their performance?

I posted a great deal for the 576 a week or so ago hotukdeals.com/ite…-s/

Im just posting a deal. Only picked them up yesterday so havent set them up yet.

I was just looking at this offer this morning, just called now and they are out of stock...
shame. I've put an order on amazon in the meantime...

I've been in the market for a home cinema system for few weeks, i would have gone for this if I had just started my research, it's a good deal

I am going to wait for the Sony STR-DG820 and the Jamo a102 to be instock with a reasonable price, total price is less than 400 pounds but both are better than the ones in this deal so worth the extra cash

the Onkyo 605 is going to drop in price i feel, they have been trying to flog me one in richersounds for a while, it seems its not very popular, and the tannoys have a good reputation but it seems in terms of quality they are the same as the obsolete FX5.1 and EFX5.1, they just look slightly better

the 605 was discontinued months ago Replaced by the 606 (the UK's best selling receiver by 2-1 in 2008). 605 is a very very good receiver if you can get one. Identical to the massive selling 606 minus one HDMI input.

Anyone ordered one of these? I've ordered one 10 days ago and they're still awaiting stock!
