No. TBH, the only requirement appears to be that you say you are a student (in this instance: at "The Shaw Academy"). You can do a dummy run by entering any email address at the NUS card sign-up page and progressing an application up until the payment stage. All seems far too casual and open to abuse.
The courses are pointless & the "qualifications" absolutely worthless as they are more introductory courses & they are not accredited by any approved examination board......

By all means do it if you want an NUS card but the courses will not achieve anything....these courses are always being offered at this "discount" or even free....they have never been £199

Fair observation, but credibility is attempted by most of the course certs showing the CPD logo cpduk.co.uk/
CPD is the equivalent of company in house training (continuous Personal Development) but that is little more than a certificate of attendance
To complete the final exam in the photography course, I had to pay (I think) €5.00. Still cheap though and a great course.
@andyRoyd I have done a dummy run on the nus website but it asks for shaw academy student is number so you must have to get that first .

SA do not issue a student number. If you wish to raise legitimacy, quote your 10digit GoGroopie order number at that stage - that's as near as you will get to a student number, otherwise enter a random 10digit number and you will be able to progress.

I agree completely regarding accreditation and potential false advertising of 'original' costs, but if you would like to learn more about a subject you're interested in they are well worth it at £1! I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of teaching and interaction.

Towards the end of the course they will try to promote the 'reduced' lifetime membership option. Just don't be taken in by it (I'm sure no true hukd-ers would be that gullible!), and all will be fine.

Applying for an NUS card requires that you provide an 'academic email' address and 'Shaw Academy Student Number' ... I don't have either ??? How do I obtain these ???

Just had confirmation that my nus extra card is on it's way. I followed andyRoyd instructions. Put in any 10 digit number. No academic email address and it's on it's way. I didn't bother with the shaw academy course. Saved £1!
This will do for my CPD at least, saves me the bother from going out my way for it.

Hot, I guess

Any idea if they have been known to revoke cards?
So the photography course is great and the support is too.. however, be aware that their business model is to call and email a lot to try and get you to sign up for their lifetime membership at ~£300. That gets you access to all their other courses. They'll push it hard.

Which I guess is fine as long as you know that in advance. Something to be aware of.

I imagine you'd find some way of committing fraud to achieve this.
As others have said be prepared for the hard sell towards the end of the course, I didn't even bother with final exam as got fed up with them badgering me about the life time membership, understand they have a business to run but boy do they get on my tits.

I didn't think the 'hard sell' was excessive, two phone calls to me that were part feedback to them of the course I took and partly to try and sell the lifetime membership for £300 that, to be fair to them, also includes 3 other family or friends that can access any courses via your membership. I didn't sign up though
PS. There were also around half a dozen 'hard sell' emails over a week or so near the end of the course.

Good for intros (I've done the photography), but as previously stated they do hard sell at the end..
Thanks op I've ordered the photography and the web development.

Anyone know how long I have to do them. Can I do one then 4 weeks later start the other one. Or does it expire.

Via the GG offer, you're normally given an option of two or three start dates over the coming months for each course. Once a GG-sourced course starts, you have about 6 weeks to complete it before it expires from your SA account. You can study any number of courses concurrently. If you pay the hefty and aggressively-promoted fee for lifetime membership of SA, you can start, attend, revisit, take final assessments (obtaining certificates) whenever and as often as you wish at no additional cost. Basically you are paying £1 to be inundated with marketing designed to relieve you of £300-£400 to buy lifetime membership, any benefit you can obtain in the meantime from the brief courses is a bonus.
Yeah I ended up signing in to see that. But cheers for the reply. I've used an old number so should shouldn't get any calls and can just ignore the emails.
Signed up for one but the start date is on the 25th July, so do I only have 2 weeks to complete the course? Cause some lesson are only released months later?

Don't understand the Q, but typically a course lasts 6wks from the date of the first live lesson. If you login to your SA account and look under "Course Details" it should state the date and time of each live lesson. A video recording of each live lesson is typically available the day after the lesson. The closing date to take the optional final assignment is typically two weeks after the final lesson, which should be 6wks after the course started. HTH.
I mean as in if u only get 4 weeks free access but the course last 6 weeks; will I still be able to access the content after those four weeks for that course?
