Residents from Newham will be able to travel for a reduced rate on the Emirates Cable Car - the UK’s first urban cable car which spans the River Thames and connects Newham and Greenwich.
Emirates Cable Car
From Friday 14 February until the end of 2014, Newham residents who produce proof of residence will receive a 50 per cent reduction on return fares. The offer will apply to both cash fares and pay as you go Oyster fares, meaning adults can travel on the Emirates Air Line for just £3.30 return and children for just £1.70.

A family of four, two adults and two children can make a return trip for £10 with Oyster. Residents will be able to bring up to three guests with them who will also receive the discount. The guests do not need to be local residents.

Thanks to u0421793:
There’s also special price reductions for five or more journeys in a week on your oyster, discounted from the journeys of the following week: tfl.gov.uk/tic…spx or something like that. I’ve never used it for more than one or two journeys at a time. I’ll wait until it’s included in the normal oyster payg cap for a day’s travel, like it should be — in the meantime it’s more of a tourists funfair ride than a public transit solution.

Cool. Maybe they will be able to spot job vacancies from up there.

Treat yourself to a journey. It doesn't have the prime location as The London Eye but the views are quite amazing. Go on a windy day and get your heart racing! (The windier the better ... although it closes if it gets too windy)

Should be half price for everyone considering WE paid for it. As usual the government had to bail it out to finish construction.

goes from nowhere to nowhere

Not a deal for me. cold.

Complete waste of money, wont be around in a few years.

It is a good experience as a one off but not really a form of everyday transport.

Testing them out

Are you sure this is still running? I'm certain somebody told me the ride was suspended

Thanks op!

No deals for the Greenwich side of the water? Cold.

Offer is for Greenwich residents too.
make sure you have proof

So, Tesco in-store deals get caned because they aren't available to all yet this goes hot when it's only available if you have proof of residence in one of two London boroughs - HUKD strikes again!

Those voting cold please note each Newham resident can bring 3 of their friends where ever they live. So Relatives from abroad can give their visitors a tour as well.

Heat OP for putting it here.

cheap rate for tory voters obviously

why is it only for local residents, we should all be able to ride a white Elephant, Another flop by the Government,I bet the maker of the car was owned by Boris's dad

In the Summer holidays Newham council usually lay on a great big sand pit at the royal docks and call it an urban beach. I have to admit my five year old did love it and it was a cheap enough day out. We took the cable car from the royal docks to North Greenwich and had some lunch in the 02. Again, my 5yr old was most impressed with the fountains outside the o2 and then we recorded her reading the news in the sky section and she saw the formula one car on display. For a cheapish day out if you have young kids I would highly recommend it. Under 5's are free on the cable cars.

I know, every time I hear the announcement on the DLR that the Emirates … I know, every time I hear the announcement on the DLR that the Emirates Air Line is suspended, I think “yes, that’s how it’s supposed to work — if it’s suspended, then it’s running as normal, it works by being suspended. ”

It's when you hear they're no longer suspended you have to worry!
