I had one of these which my mum currently uses. One of the best LG phones and loved it, but surely is more of a downgrade from a mate 20 pro besides the audio department.

I just picked up a HTC 10 for £150 brand new but it is between that and this for best DAC to use as a decent DAP from my research. This is super tempting for that alone (I'll stick with the 10 now I bought that though...plus the 10 is red to match my B&W P3 in red!).

Shame it's not the V40 I'd have got that for my sound system.

Don't...
Thanks all. I’ll stay put.

Guess I’ll save my pennies for the next iPhone or Note.
This is a very good phone, unfortunately abandoned by the manufacturer and actually stuck with an outdated operating system. Great specs and price.

Sorry, I think you've had an answer

I owned this albeit for a short period, yeah its no longer getting updates, but sound, screen and camera quality still shine through even at this price.
Still a great phone... SD 835+4gb though!
If the DAC and high quality audio are not necessities, £200+ for what is essentially abandonware is not a great deal IMO. Most new midrangers like the Redmi Note 9 will smoke this for performance, battery life and software support.

Exactly. Camera on this is better than the xiaomi as well. Stellar battery life on this obviously not as good as the Xiaomi
I believe the video capabilities of this are excellent if that's a priority to anyone

What's the custom rom support like?
luke.o.zade26/05/2020 15:17

Some info on XDA Here

Some good unofficial roms. I really want a zoom so I will resist! Nice geeky phone for the modders though!

Thanks. I guess I should look for a tutorial to test it out.
Amazing phone.
Voting hot just for the use of those letters and numbers in the model name.
I've had one for a couple of years. DAC is great if you appreciate your music. Also, this has to be one of the toughest phones I've had. It's been dropped onto the ground many times and the front screen now has three long cracks from side to side and top to bottom but the screen refuses to shatter. Camera and video are great and performance is just as nippy as it ever was. Only downside is that I seem to be abandoned on Androi 8.0.
I'm not convinced about having controls especially fingerprint sensor on the back because it means that you have to pick it up everytime you want to unlock it which is a pain when its on a charging stand or just resting in front of you on your desk.

Only the SD765 up of the Qualcomms is better in terms of performance, so most most midrangers will not have better performance. This is going by non updates 3 year old benchmarks for the SD835.
You are right on the software side though as it is 2017 device, but there is custom rom support so for some this could be a very good buy.

And then there is prestige the likes of Samsung , Apple, LG and Sony are still the marquee brands for most, especially in the UK.

Benchmarks aren’t everything. Yes raw performance will be “better” but it needs significantly more power to achieve that - modern processors are simply more efficient. A 665 is only ~20% weaker anyway. I wouldn’t exactly call LG prestigious maybe in the same way that HTC still is, but nobody cares for them outside of home appliances really.

They won't. Different level of performance between them. Battery life I agree and software support I agree too. I hardly ever update the software as it fixes some things and breaks other things. I am happy being on nougat for years now. What have I missed? And what 'security' patches are there? Bluetooth as technology is cracked and there is no security patch to it. And if you careless and lazy to use NFC to make payments, keep in mind no security' patches will ever make it safe. LG v30 is a very capable mobile with great camera, great sound system and excellent screen and performance. If this was dual SIM I would be all over this.

Well the 3 year old benchmarks say better and 3 years worth of optimisations ( 2 max in LGs case) means overall performance should be even better. Current benchmarks vastly inflate current scores with the 865 score being twice that of the 835 without producing twice the performance. So I would imagine real life performance of mid-ranger chips not being as close as benchmarks suggest.

On efficiency, the newer midrange chips still produce less processing power so they will use less battery on light weight activities. You can never get more from an inferior SOC but you can certainly turn down the wick on a superior chip to get more battery life.

The marquee brands are just that and it takes years to remove them.
Most non techies have never heard of:
Xiaomi
OPPO
OnePlus
Realme
Etc
They don't even know Google make phones
Nokia, Motorola and HTC would mean more to most over 30 years old.
