My first post so go easy....

Right now Optical Express are offering free laser eye surgery consultations (which includes a free eye test as well as the actual consultation), plus £4.50 cashback for booking through Quidco.

Also, book before 28 December and get the surgery (iDesign plus LASIK, best procedures available) for £2,795 instead of £4,200 usually (33% saving). Thereafter £2,995 until end of January. If you want to use your glasses prescription instead of their state-of-the art iDesign procedure (which effectively measures your eye prescription at 1,200 different points within your eye for best possible results) then it will cost less. And similarly if you get LASEK treatment instead of LASIK.

Also, the price includes a 20/20 vision money back guarantee on the procedure and 0% finance.

You could go to some dodgy places that will charge you less still - but they probably won't have the same reputation as Optical Express, and I'd be surprised if they offer the 20/20 vision guarantee as well. I certainly wouldn't gamble on my vision with those places!

i was tempted by optical express as they told me they do thousands of similar jobs in africa... or someone does... or something. then i spoke to the nhs and they said "why risk an operation on your eyes when glasses only cost 60 quid a time (about a tenner on here) and you don't risk losing your eyesight permanently...

i'd rather be long sighted than save 4% on such dangerous elective surgery.

bloody cold (unless you're a poverty-struck african with glaucoma).

I'm not sure the surgery is as dangerous as you make it sound marineville - they have a 99.3% success rate, which is pretty high imho. End of the day laser surgery isn't for everybody - it probably would benefit somebody with really poor vision more than somebody who can still get by without their glasses. I personally opted to go for it because I'm just fed up of scratching/breaking my classes and lenses make my eyes dry and red.

I htink it's a good deal if you've already decided you want to have the surgery.

I had consultations by both Optimax and Optical Express earlier this year.
I chose not to go ahead with the surgery - was told 95% of people with a similar prescription to myself were happy with the results. To my mind that meant 1 in 20 weren't happy.
When I looked at what could go wrong, the very least of the problems (dry-eye) could end up making a significant negative impact on my life, for the rest of my life.
It wasn't prepared to go ahead with those odds.

I would also say that both my brother and sister have also had surgery and both were very happy - they don't have the same astigmatism issues as I do though.

Go into this with your eyes open (parden the pun)

Oh and the various forum posts I found about sitting it out after consultation for a lower price were spot-on. The price had almost halved within 3 months.

This company are a Joke!
Only after your money. I cancelled my treatment after reading some of the comments online.
Was constantly asked how I intended to pay, and was not told that the treatment was unsuitable for someone of my age, Later found out that I would only get partial vision and have dry eyes.
Was very rudely told off by receptionist in front of waiting customers because I was 5 minutes late (Had to catch a bus).
Avoid at all costs!

should clarify... i don't mean short sightedness, which seems to be done fairly easily with laser surgery... but my own problem was longsightedness and to correct close-up blurring they would have to replace my own cornea with a plastic one and this is a relatively rare prodecure as reading glasses come cheap compared to several thousand quid. plus, none of the staff themselves had replaced their own corneas and reading glasses with such an invasive operation...

Had my eyes done by them over 3 years ago, best thing I ever did.

20/20 vision from day after surgery.

Had mine done 5 times now oO with optical express, the vision is good. But the customer services is the worst I have ever come across with any company!

That's fair enough - but not a reason to vote this offer cold I think. If laser surgery not right for you that's fair enough, but if you want laser surgery and you've decided to get it then I think it's a pretty good deal!

true... but i didn't like the fact that they weren't honest about the dangers of my own operations... the fact that they're promoting something so fringe was disturbing...

I had mine done with these a year and half ago, same price. So happy I did it aswel, customer service excellent, only downfall is instill get dry eyes are on the odd occasions in the morning. But I can get as many eye drops I want for life. Its much better than changing contacts everyday. I guess you just need to ask yourself, is it right for you before you go ahead.

My eye sight kept deteriorating each time and when I asked why they said they purposely under treat patients... no one ever told me that though, if I had known when I started this 7 years ago I probably wouldn't have bothered! My latest surgery was February this year, so now hoping this one works!

One laser optomotrist told me if I had it done again I would go blind, then a few months later referred me to have the surgery for the fifth time, I bought this up with the surgeons team and they were disgusted that someone would say that to me as it wasn't true (obviously there is always a risk) but for someone who had already gone through the procedure 4 times at this point it was scary!

I'm not sure I have ever seen the same optician/optomostrist twice either, their staff turnover is so high, when we discussed this with a member of the reception staff they told us that the company was horrible to work for and they were looking for a new job at the time and gave me contact details for people in head office to complain!

Its a shame as I am pleased with my vision now, just annoyed I've had so much trouble with the company along the way, I've had so much trouble with their customer services and have gone as high up as the MDs right hand man.

Was the consultation more than a half hour?

Hi.

Yea sure, will have a search for you now.

I had my surgery just over 3 years ago. 1st may to be exact.

I popped in to my optical express 6 months ago and was told the same thing! I explained they told me it was eye care for life including free eye tests... to be told it was only while im signed on with them. Once your signed off as all treatement has worked. Thats it! Not a nice feeling as it's your eye's and promised free eye care for life!
