I've seen loads of videos and reviews on it. Ideal if you want 100" from about 1m away.
Gaming on my Optoma HD26 is really good and films awesome

Sorry, looks like it has gone up again. But it was definitely discounted (by a 3rd party seller) when I checked. Following is a screenshot of the same.

What's the lighting like in your room?

Lighting is minimal, got some blinds and blackout curtains. Projectors aren't meant to be used in bright environments. Night time will be its party piece.
I've got 100" screen to projector onto.
I started off with cheap £60 projectors that support 1080p but don't throw it, more like 480p lol.
The fan noise is something to think about as well, mines pretty noisey so use my headfones on a night time

I'd like to step up to a 1080P projector but this kind of price is just too much IMHO considering you can get 800P ones for around £100 at the low end. I have a Tenker TP90 as here: amazon.co.uk/gp/…C2/ 800P model that I got on special for about £80 a few months back.

For the price it is outstanding but it does have a couple of issues, namely it is noisy (though I gather most pjs are?) and I just can't seem to get completely natural looking colours from it, things like skin colour tend to look pale or overblown, just can't seem to find the sweet spot where everything looks right and none of the factory presets seem to get it quite right. Could be my settings (wish I could find a good test image for colour) or just a limitation of projectors this cheap. Still just getting a reasonably clear and watchable 120" image on my wall from something that cost so little is pretty impressive....

Projectors will be noisy until LEDs and Laser sources are commonplace. Unfortunately LEDs aren't dense enough yet and lasers are expensive

I have the 720p version of this and love it. Yes id love the 1080p version, but considering I got the lower res for 330 two years ago itl do. Short throw is great. Takes about 30 seconds to come on. Remote is pretty basic, but theres not many functions anyway. Cinema setting is generally the best, but if you mess around it auto goes into user mode. A little loud fan noise but mines in eco mode and perfectly fine......plus throw some speakers to it and you wont hearbit. I project onto a white wall with no issues at all. Projectors are brilliant and I use mine daily (dedicated spare room). Hope that helps anyone

Does the image shrink substantially if it is only half a metre from the wall?

I'd say yes as its short throw. Mines around 11ft from my wall producing 100" and with this you only need to be arouns 1m for 100"
If your used to a normal size TV 80"+ will seem like a cinema to you lol

Can't beat a good projector! I've had the benq w1070 for years and it's great
