I have a 720P projector (cheap one) and it is still sharp even at around 80-90" screen size. Many paint formulas out there to paint your wall instead of a screen for those on a budget
Heres my cheapo B&Q screen paint mix! (this is not the projector here btw!!!)
youtube.com/wat…zCo (before I had set up my projector or finished the screen I might add!!!)

Mix is 4:1. Dulux Light and Space Absolute White and Craig and Rose Opulence Sensual Silver

Amazon warehouse have a few as well @ £260.99 (though how many hours of use they have had who knows?)
amazon.co.uk/gp/…sed

I have the 720 version too, very good, I just got a white blackout blind to use as a screen, works very well.

I just decided to get a giant TV instead of a projector as we don't want a big box slap bang in the middle of the ceiling. and then this deal pops up... Damn you HUKD.

They are so very very good for gaming.

Paid £50 more than this for the older H180X just 6 months ago, oh well!

I also use a white IKEA blackout roller blind - very tidy and unobtrusive, but great picture quality.

Bargain at £299, have some heat.

How far would the projector need to be for a 100“ image?

About 3.6m

Do the fans in these projectors still get noisy?

3.6 Metres would be the sweet spot for a 100" diagonal image. However, if you set the zoom to max (1.2), you could move as close as 3.3 Metres and still have a 100" diagonal image. Or, if you didn't want the projector in the middle of the room, you could move it back as far a 4.0 Metres and achieve the same 100".

Hope that helps

I have thought about getting a projector a few times and discounting the bulb life, as it isn't really that short, my main concern would have to be the brightness / visibility in normal operation.

Fans sound loud. Or is that some other background noise?

Most newish ones are fine for viewing in a home environment, unless it's particularly bright in that room. But imo projectors are not really a TV replacement, think of them more as a cinema experience at home. So lights off, curtains/blinds closed and dark room as possible for best results. In the same way you don't expect to sit in a well lit cinema.

need one with lens shift vertical and horizontal. doubt i will get one at this price point though

Might be a stupid question but could u put a Chromecast in one of these?

I have a little philips pico projector that I have now given to the kids (my kids) anyway at around the same price and only 80 lumens I can only imagine how good this one is. Mine is very good, while clearly not HD my yify files I play via USB look really good at 60'. May have to buy this one now!

Best off getting the 1080p and spending the extra

I also have to vote this deal cold due to the fact that RS have it for the same price with 5 years warranty.

Optoma make great home cinema PJs. I have the H131xe with 1080p and 3d and have to say it is superb. I project onto a 92inch electric screen with the PJ mounted around 3 metres away and have the bulb on eco and have no issues with the picture. Saying that, I do have a blackout blind and the screen comes down in front of it so the room really is pitch black when you shut the door.

As for bulb life, I wouldn't worry, they last for ages and are only around £90 anyway.

Haha, my mind is working overdrive at thought of home cinema PJs - like these Frozen Pyjamas?

One day in the future (in my dreams!)

The Richersounds Deal with 5 Year warranty looks more promising...Sorry but COLD from me.

If your referring to the video in post one, my projector is a cheap china brand (£229) hence very noisy, it can however run all day no probs!. This one is probably alot quiter

I have curtains that let light in my room and can watch in daytime no problem, obviously the contrast is worse but still ok. Blackout curtains/blind are a better option.

Its not really a TV replacement IMO, but for the money these now are, everyone can have a home cinema

It does seem a bargain

Note that RS warranty does not cover projector bulbs though!

Is it any better than Epson EH- W550?

Ah ok, that wasn't clear in your original post.

Great deal! You won't regret it.

I have one of these, bought about 4 years ago. Use it for at least 2 up to 6 hours each day and bulb is now nearly half used. The screen size is nice and I like that it can be put out of the way. It's not loud enough to be noticed (maybe we're used to it?). The only drawback is we have blinds in our living room and it's useless during daylight hours when it's really sunny outside. When it's dingy or rainy it works, so if you have curtains I'm sure it'll be better.

I've got the H180X which I absolutely love. I paid over £350 for it.

I get roughly a 70" screen from just over 2m distance.

A blackout blind is essential for using it during the day, but in the dark and on a night time the picture is absolutely fantastic.

People will automatically dismiss this as it is only 720p, but gaming looks amazing and I only ever download TV's and Movies in 720p and they look great on it.

My only complaint is the poor picture in a bright environment but that's to be expected with any projector.

Also the speaker on mine is pretty poor, I'm not sure the one in this one will be any better. But I have mine hooked up through my Sony amp. I would definitely recommend you consider an external speaker system.

Daylight viewing can be decent as long as you get the right screen/paint.
Thats why grey screens are all the rage, the paint mix in the first post helps contrast alot due to the light reflecting dulux and metallic silver added to it

(I am aware these pics are not optimal, just to show my daylight viewing experience )

For those wondering you can make the screen smaller if needed to fit a space in the projector settings

Can hardly see any difference when on or off...

Projectors are okay as a bit of fun, but cannot compete with a big TV.

Damn these things are cheap nowadays.
If my man room wasn't changed into a play room for our boy I'd have had one.

I made my 106" screen using blackout blind material from dunelm and some wood, stretched it over and then put the fluffy side of velcro all way round. looks amazing

Chromecast will not work on my H180X if connected through my Sony amp. Not sure why. It will pick up the initial boot screen but once the Chromecast is ready to go it loses connection. I assume it is a problem with the resolution settings.

It does however work when plugged directly into the back of the projector.

My ceiling is really soft, I doubt it would be able to hold any projector, was a nightmare trying to put up curtain rod supports.
Can this be used while on a flat surface?

You could either lift up a floor board above and place a small piece of wood above to fix in to.

Or they can be placed flat but ideally would need to be at a height lower than the bottom of the screen height.

Different technology. This projector has a mechanical image system with a rotating colour wheel and some people experience a rainbow effect with DLP but this has generally been improved. This is brighter than the Epson in theory although you do lose some brightness due to the colour wheel so not sure how they compare in real terms. Unfortunately I do see rainbows with DLP quite easily so it had to be the Epson for me but that doesn't mean you will be the same. It might be an idea to get a demonstration of both LCD and DLP projectors to see how they compare in general if you can't get a demonstration of specific models you are considering.
