Great price, wish it was LCD though, rainbow city with DLP for me:(

can you explain that? does that mean that the separate colours don't align properly? I was tempted by this and your comment worried me! ☺

it means there's a spinning colour wheel that some people are sensitive to

good price imo

It has a 2 speed colour wheel which means that if you are susceptible to the rainbow artefact this projector might not be for you (a higher speed wheel reduces the effect). I was so close to jumping on this but I can see the effect, can't really risk it. Looks like I'm sticking with my 720p panasonic for a while!

Hot Deal for those it suits, definitely!

I have the Optoma HD600x 720p DLP projector. i was concerned about this "rainbow" effect when i first bought it, as if you looked at white colours on your screen and flicked your eyes left to right actively looking for it, you would see a rainbow. this was distracting at first. but then after "relaxing" into my projector. i can't notice it anymore unless i try to actively find it. 3500hours into my HD600x i am very happy with it. just time to upgrade to 1080p me thinks

You could of at least gave a mention to Newmann that pointed out this deal and price to you in the viewsonic thread.

That being said, amazing projector. Easily worth £400. Heat added

Thanks for reminding me, i forgot. post edited

Note you dont get 2 x 3d Glasses with these or a bluray movie like you do with the Viewsonic.
People with O2 priority get a further discount when buying from Currys somehting like a further £30 off

Could anybody advice this or viewsonic posted earlier?
Has anybody had to replace lamps on them? Because viewsonic lamps cost twice of this one
What's an average you get out of your projector? I mean usage + years?
Thanks

How does this compare to the viewsonic?

is this better than the Viewsonic PJD7820HD-UK 1?

Depends how often you use it.

Lamp life says around 6000 hours.

So if you use it 28hours a week. Four years. Give or take

Nice English!

I bought the Optoma GT1080 via Flubit for £500 and cant recommend it enough if you want a short throw Optoma

How are these projectors like for gaming with a PS4?

As above, most DLP projectors use a colour wheel which cause a rainbow effect when watching movies etc, this is that technology. I've had two but never been able to sit through a movie comfortably because of this effect, In my experience more can people see them than not see them but if you can, whether they bother you enough will be up to yourself.

There are alternative HD LCD projectors around just incase anyone didn't know, they don't have the same black depth as DLP but are much more pleasureable to watch if you see rainbows etc as there simply aren't any. My cheap 720p LED LCD chinese thing cost just over half this and my head doesn't feel like its going to split in half, so I'm happy

Any suggestion of good prices for 3D glasses (for this one)? Thanks.

Apart from substituting the 'that' to 'who' I honestly can't see that much wrong with it. I've seen worse. Maybe one day I will get to grow up with amazing grammar and punctuation skills like you. We can only hope. Merry Christmas

The o2 priority code won't work online so it may not work with this offer.

Won't work for me I mean.

great find heat....would prefer the benq w1070+;to expensive at the moment

Great price, I paid £510 for this + a screen a few months back.

It was my first projector, and I've only been impressed with it. Everytime I watch a Blu-Ray I think "This is the way a movie should be watched!".
Picture quality is very good (I'd say tack sharp, but having not experienced better projectors I won't, as many will jump in and say shut up).

They have been known for their production-line issues (dust behind the lens), so make sure you exchange it if you received a dodgy one. I took my first one back because of a big speck of dust behind the lens, and the overall picture quality wasn't impressive. My replacement was excellent though. Love it!

With regards the rainbow effect... I've noticed it when the majority of the screen is black and there is white text, or if you quickly move your eyes from one end of the screen to the other. But for the duration of the movie I'll notice it maybe 2 or 3 times , but it doesn't bother me because the other factors far outweigh this.. Others may see it more though.

Just for added info. To fill a 92" screen you're looking at around 3 - 3.1m distance from the lens to the screen.
You will also need to spend on some sort of sound system, or just basic speakers. With this being my first projector I thought I could get away with using the in built speaker, but it's too tinny to enjoy a movie with.

I've not tried out the 3D feature, as I don't have the transmitter or the glasses. Anyone had experience with this?

One more thing. When you purchase a pull down projector screen, they do smell like plastic for a few weeks. It doesnt mean you have a defective product, it's normal

Also, they're supposed to be doing 25% off projector screens when you purchase this projector, making this a bargain at £60

£460 for this projector and screen is fantastic! This deal should get very hot.

Up to you, i have no experience with Viewsonic. I have been using my Optoma HD600X 720p projector for 3 years now and clocked 3500 hours, so about 3.5hour/day which is fairly heavy usage. bulbs for the hd600x are ~£66 and prob still good for another 500 hours, but so far having a projector has enabled me to avoid paying for rip-off TV license £145 (by going netflix and dvds only) so that's a £450 saving right there!

so i would pick the Optoma of the two, because i have confidence in their gear.

He's posted zero deals in over seven years of membership. I wouldn't even waste your breath on him if comments like that are his only contribution.

That aside, if Newmann was even remotely bothered about receiving credit for this deal, I'm sure he would have posted the deal himself

whats better this or benq 1070 ?

Nice

Bought this for £450 from Richer Sounds on Black Friday. I've no idea how this compares to others but I'm happy with it so far.

I should add that my 106' screen cost £99, the amp and speakers cost £600 and I got a guy to fit it all. So you will splash the cash potentially.

One thing I love with this site, not only get great bargains but also very helpful technical help.

You may want to adjust the title as Amazon has now dropped their price to match (*before someone starts a seperate thread)

Not that I care but it should be "could have" not "could of"

Also "given" not "gave"

I'm sure some pedant will only point it out otherwise!

How very true. Looking back I now see what a fool I have been. Learn something new everyday.

Thank you for this, I had just put this on a price watch on one of those websites and actually had entered alerts under £420.00 but you beat the website to it!

Are you sure you'd know if you had seen worse? Could 'of' doesn't make sense because you can't 'of' something it should say 'could have'.

Can everyone please stop taking the pi** out of me. I'm obviously not that literate if I've got so many things wrong. Leave me alone now please.

Admittedly I might have considered this one over the viewsonic deal I posted if it weren't for the free 3d glasses and bluray, this is a great deal though and one of the projectors I was considering while I'd been researching which one I wanted for Xmas.

Heat for a good deal but I'd get (and have got) the viewsonic.
