Orange - Free Nokia 5800 - 12 mnth contract - Only £27.41 - Plus £150 QUIDCO

This deal is back again, same as 3 months ago. I missed it last time, as the quidco only stayed at the £150 level for 2 or 3 days (I think).

Nokia 5800 Racoon £30 (£27.41 online direct with Orange) x 12 months.
200 mins + 300 texts + 200 mins to landlines
Effective monthly cost=£15.24 [if Quidco pay the £150 cashback; phone delivery is £3.99]

Free evening and weekend mobile internet browsing is for only 2 months on all the orange contracts at this price, so I think the 12 month contracts work out better than the 18 month ones.

Thanks to Howdie for pointing out that (until the end of the 24th) this deal is also available with a free Altec Lansing external speaker. See his post (with a big picture of it) in the thread below.

You could go for the lg km900 (arena) for the same price on the same deal. It looks very glamorous and has a better physical spec (processor etc) but there seem to be very mixed consumer reviews of the Arena's software in its Orange version. (e.g. at mobile-phones-uk.org.uk/lg-…htm )

Original Poster

This may be obvious, but the "Go to Deal" button leads to the orange site, so you can look at the phones available. If you decide to take the deal, clear your cookies and go via Quidco.

Girlfriend got this phone on a cashback deal about 7 months ago for a similar price so don't really think this is hot any more. Especialy because its with Orange.....

Haven't voted though.

only 300 txts?

I agree Morpheus, it's not a novel phone anymore. But that has advantages in terms of the firmware. If you prefer newer, glitzier options, you could get the LG KM900 Arena on the same deal - it's pretty glitzy looking, great hardware but the 1st iteration orange firmware is perhaps shaky.

I couldn't find the 5800 at this price for this short a contract (with a big name company) other than the few days every 3 months it pops up on this orange/quidco deal. I'm happy with quidco and the orange quidco stats (they claim to pay on 95% and most of the other 5% after appeal).

That is the reason I didn't vote mate. I have never been with Orange but have heard bad stories about them... but its the same with every network. I have been with Three and loved my time with them, but loads of people hate them with a passion.

@ mstat RE: post #6.... fair play mate, was expecting you to come back getting all defensive like people usually do on here but you took my post in the way it was intended. Cheers

Hi,

Whats the best phone for internet, camera the whole shabang?

Thanks
PS - HAS ANY1 ALREADY ORDERED THIS? DID QUIDCO TRACK?

Original Poster

Hi Nav0121, I ordered the 5800, quidco tracked fine, showing in a few hours.

Gone through Quidco but went for the HTC Hero on the Racoon 30 (24 months) - I'm a sucker for Gadge.

£97.50 for the phone
£24.46 monthly for Racoon 30

* 600 anytime minutes
* 500 texts
* unlimited anytime calls to UK landlines
* 500MB anytime mobile internet browsing
* inclusive sat nav with Orange Maps

Quidco tracked within a couple of hours so should work out at effective cost of £22.27 per month.

Seems to be the cheapest deal going for the Hero without jumping through cashback rebate deal hoops (which I hate with a passion from previous experience).

This is the longest agreement I've ever gone in for so hoping the Hero will kepp me amused for most of it

Never had a problem with Orange.....

BTW I bought 2 orange packages last year when it was £150 through Quidco & both paid out no problemo.

24 months.... :whistling:

whats the best phone to get for this contract?

Hope you got the free Altec Lansing speaker with your 5800 order

Why do Orange always see the need to cripple their handsets with their special branded "home screens" - my ancient old N70 was branded by Orange and they made the phone much harder to use (for example to send a text instead of pressing one button to create a new message you had to press three). It was also really slow, I ended up getting it flashed by a Nokia Service Centre to the factory settings which improved it no end.

It really put me off Orange though :?

Do they cripple the 5800 in the same way or do they leave the software the way the manufacturer and designers intended?

My sister didn't exactly have a great time with Orange, and if the Quidco didn't track I'd be so ******. Will not bother.

I work for Orange in their retail stores, you can remove the quick link sidebar on most of phones but they usually refer to it as the orange homescreen. for example it comes under the 'homescreen' option in settings in sony ericsson phones.

With regards to the deal it seems like a great one has Orange have stopped 12 month contracts in stores so they might phase them out altogether soon! And now they're acquiring t-mobile you should get uninterrupted coverage in the next 12 months or so.

Thanks, they didnt have that option on my old N70 but good to hear it may be possible nowadays. Have no idea why they put that garbage on there, its a bit like when Dell sell you a new PC with all that rubbish installed, slows everything down.

Yeah I'm never a fan of network branded software....usually I just turn it off for most people when they get a new phone....especially for older people, it just makes it more complicated and as you said slower. I suppose it's all about putting the brand into people faces constantly.

How do you get the 12 month plan please?

its ok found it..just go thru their special offers link for the 5800 plus sperakers.
Has anyone else gone for this deal?

I ditched Orange as I hated the home screen that they had killed my Nokia 6680, at the time it couldn't be turned off, I whinged like hell to the customer service centre. I downloaded an app that would kill it off, which meant that it then had enough memory (1MB more!) to run the apps that I wanted to run.

But the reason that they have it is so that all phones, no matter what manufacturer, have the same interface. Personally I think that they should leave the phone interface software writing to the professionals.

Cold. I got 600 minutes, unlimited texts and unlimited data plus a free HTC Diamond a year ago for £25pm (for 18month contract).

How does that compare? This works out at just over 15pm with the quidco cashback, over only a 12 month period, not 18 months (admittedly less call time, but a tenner less) also you are comparing with a totally different touch phone, an older one with no external memory or a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. How can a deal be voted cold when you are randomly comparing something else?

Should add £3.99 delivery!

It's included in the original post and it's included in the £15.24 I calculated for the effective monthly cost.

Hope you got the free Altec Lansing speaker with your 5800 order

Oh, no! I see I can phone up to have them added but I wouldn't want to jeopardise the quidco by making offline contact so I think I'll just make do with the onboard speakers..

Thinking voted cold for this because of the vat charge need to add on which they don't tell you on the orange internetsite from your bill if on contract.

I don't get it, VAT is included in the price at 15%. With regards to the bill it gives you the ex-VAT price for each individual item on your bill and then gives the total price ex-VAT + total VAT = Total Price including VAT. IT clearly states what the VAT is for those that need to reclaim it.

Your deal is cold...

I got 800 minutes + 200 minutes landline plus HTC Hero last month. Though I paid 68 pounds for the phone, the contract length is 12 months. Cost is 27.31 per month.

Right enough, vat goes back up from 15% to 17.5% in April, so the payments on phone contracts (including your current contract and this one) might rise if the contracts permit the increase to be passed on.

For this contract, £27.41 x 1.175 / 1.15 = £28.01, so the possible total value of the possible increase is about 6months x 60p, i.e. £3.60. That vat change amount may be 5p or 10p per month more or less than the amount your current contract will change by, I suppose.

I went to Vodafone and got the HTC touch pro 2, also for 24 months for £30 per month but with the first 3 months free. Also quidco is tracking for £100. I got
750 mins
250 texts (don't use that much)
Unlimited calls to landlines
Unlimited Internet.
I thought that it was quite a good deal.:-D
BTW also think that this is a good deal

I've just bought this phone on a 12 month contract (300 mins & 200 texts on t-mobile) from buymobilephones.net. Its a 6 months free line rental cashback by redemption deal so it works out as follows

£29.36 x 6 months = £176.16
minus £20 quidco = £156.16

The effective cost of my deal works out at £13.01 per month as opposed to the OP's £15.24 per month in the deal posted, but of course I have the extra hassle of claiming cashback.

That's a good price, yes, though as you say, you do have to deal with the cashback stuff, which can go wrong sometimes. It'd be a good move to have a read through the ]moneysavingexpert forum thread about buymobilephones.net, just to help avoid possible cashback hiccups.
The £13 deal comes with 100 extra x-net mins but loses other things (200 landline mins, 100 of the texts, 2 months offpeak internet, free £20 speaker). But yes, certainly a good deal if you're happy with the redemption cashback thing.

the 27.41 pounds includes vat and every little bit monthly cost already. High street price for the same deal will be 30pounds.

I got an orange contract already, I can confirm this.

My husband has this phone - its very cleaver especially the touch screen -you can write in your own handwriting and it predicts what your writing!
