Orange will let you have the basic broadband mobile contract whatever network your on now (used to have an orange phone to get this offer) Ignor the "exclusively for existing Orange customers" it doesn't ask for a number + have upped Quidco to £40.
This means 18 months @ £4.89 = £88.02 + £3.99 delivery - £40 Quidco means effective monthly payments of £2.89.
It's only 500MB per month, I'm just going to be using it as a backup for when I'm out or on holiday so surfing will be all I need it for.

well done OP!

Great deal!! I've just upgraded with 3 at £5 per month for 12 months - sold the modem for £30 so effectively £2.50 per month.

This is also a good deal!

Whats the model of the modem?

Looks like 1gigabyte per month for non Orange users, when I tried the 500mb offer it asked for an existing ornage number). However the 1gigabyte offer for £9.78 per month didn't ask for a number.

Very confusing site: too much rubbish

Def only 500MB (says so on both Quidco & Orange sites).
Model No. E160 (just had e-mail confirmation fron Orange).

Effectively £6.39 per month on 12 month 1GB contract as well, which isn't bad.

It's a Huwaei E160.

Well I could have, but would it look any better in that

Seriously, it's crazy the amount of unnecessary information on most web pages, ok so a lot of it's advertising (so thanks to a host file, I don't get it) but why to I have to watch so many animations and other rubbish?

Can this be used when abroad ?

This looks really good, might give this a look. Would 500mb a month be enough for about 6 hours a week?

Hot deal nevertheless.

Bargain, ordered one, looks a seriously good price.

Yep same here. Only for existing customers as it asks for orange no to get deal:x

It was better deal when topcashback paying £60, I got it last wednesday :-D

Still a good deal, and orange's software is way better than o2 and three! Orange use the badged(logo attached and coloured to orange) version of the huawei generic software which is fast, simple and brilliant. O2 customized made stuff is purely rubbish, take ages to connect and disconnect.

The one I received is huawei E160E, looks and works almost identical to the O2 one but my netbook cannot recognize it straight away, need to reinstall the supplied software to work. Weird

Last month I applied a 60p cashback free orange sim card from quidco just for the tiny money back to my pocket :-D and they happily took the untopped up number, so i reckon you can do similar thing or ask a friend for their orange number. They wont ask or send anything to that number and there wont be any link between the number and the modem at all.
Its my personal experience so it might be some individual case

Just put my mobile no in (non orange) and it accepted it!

i put in 01000000000 ( 11 digets ) as my mobile number and it took it but the order wont be accepted until 1 of there sale team check the order so i will have to wait to see what happens, easy come easy go.

You can get this if you have an Orange PAYG number too.

As mentioned earlier, Topcashback was paying £60 on this last week

a: quidco isn't guaranteed
b: 1Gb allowance is pointless

It's 500MB allowance

i posted this deal a month ago :x grump got voted cold then

Nevermind quidco cleared after 2 months :-D

500mb is equivalent approx 10 hrs light surfing a month all i wanted it for really

be warned it asks for bank details to set up direct debit, which i did but still got sent a paper bill + a £3.50 charge for the privelige, a quick moan to customer services and this was credited back.

PS i am an orange home broadband customer, used my home phone number when prompted, so you dont have to be an orange mobile customer specifically.

I have dongles coming out of ears and a lot of them are unlocked out of the box these days so another contract really doesn't interest me. I guess this works if you are a steady but low user but for ad hoc usage the daily plans on O2 and t-mobile for £2 or the Vodafone deal (1GB for £15 with no expiry) should also be looked at.

Thanks for that - repped.

Quidco was paying £60 in August when I took this out (am an Orange customer) - tracked and verified without a problem - except that it tracked at £50, Quidco persuing Orange for the additional £10 - Orange have muddled up this order with a recent mobile phone order that paid £50 (still, even if I don't get the extra £10, £100 cashback, -plus £45 from Dialaphone thanks to HUKD can't be bad - was slightly gutted when Orange trebled the cashback to £150, but at least they've paid out and my total cashback from Quidco in just over a year is £470 - hate to think what I've spent though!!)

op clearly stated the effective monthly payments in this deal is £2.89
so basically you can use it by 50mb x 10days, which beat the daily deal for some people
in comparason to vodafone payg, in 5 months time you have 2.5GB in total with this deal, while the vodafone is only 1 GB
Still, it is very much depends on the specific user's using style.

More than that, light surfing is 10-20MB an hour. So enough for 25-50 hours.

I use 1GB on my mobile broadband for general web (not inc many videos) and use it for about 75h a month. So you can get 30-40 hours realistically of ok surfing.

Great for less than £3 a month.

Remember the dial up days? What was it? 5p a min?

Hot deal, do I need it? I will decide tomorrow, hope it stays till tomorrow.

Right, sorry to sound dopy, but you guys do seem to know what you're talking about, I have a little shop in a craft unit which gets very little signal in there, unless you're hanging out the window or the door and wondered if having one of these modems would still be pointless as I would need to run it on an extension cable, and wondered if this would slow the connection down at all between 5m and 10m really, also if it ws to be placed outside, would I be able to put it in a bag just incase it gets wet with our lovely weather or would that too interfere with connections.
And last question, would 500mb or 1gb be enough to be uploading images onto our website, if I only did so many a day, is there anyway of telling if you have nearly reached your limit?

Sorry to waffle on, any help would be much appreciated x

You can put the dongle on a USB extension cable without any problem - I've gone to 10m (5m active + 5m passive) when testing.

For a permanent installation an external aerial is a better solution and can improve a weak signal considerably. Have a look on eBay.

PS

Yes you need to put the dongle in a weatherproof enclosure if its outside. A plastic box or even a polythene bag will be OK.

Not directly on point, but I have the O2 modem with O2 software. Is there any way of getting hold of the Orange software if it is so much better than the O2 equivalent as per one of the earlier posts ?

I've seen the 500mb package but if you look here : orange.co.uk/ima…pdf

On page 5, internet everywhere seems to be 1gb for the same price?

Why not get a cheap or free sim card then go back in to do the deal. 500Mb extra if you can wait a week or so?

I got this deal last month for same price, and my £50 quidco has already been paid, and I use this on my netbook now when I have no internet access at my mums for example.

good idea to switch off automatic downloads (set to notifie only) such as windows updates and antivirus updates and do this manually when connected to another internet source.

Still a good deal, and orange's software is way better than o2 and three!

Software? Just plug the thing in and it goes.
It's exactly 18 months since I took up Three's offer of a modem and 1G allowance for £5 a month (minus Quidco). Using it now. I'd have thought the prices would have come down in the mean time.

I installed this for a friend who is a very light user. Easiest broadband I have ever installed, and I have done plenty in my time.
This is a very good deal for light users. It was actually cheaper for them to move from dialup!!
