I just had a look on Orange's ebay page where they sell reconditioned phones and saw this: Q Can I use an existing Orange PAYG Sim card with these phones? A No, all handsets must be registered with the Sim that comes with them. Q Can I use this phone on other networks? A No, only on Orange. Also, you won't be able to use the phone until you register it with us. Has anyone been able to unlock one of these to accept any sim? Id be putting my Voda contract sim in it and woud like to know befor i buy it.

Slash

If you think the original deal is good, now the deal is even better. You "Get a FREE reconditioned Samsung C120 mobile phone when you buy this phone." Just click on the link in OP and you'll see it.

Thanks for the reply. Think ill go ahead and buy it.

I had one in Nov '06, was my favourite phone, shame it got stolen. Im after another one now on 3!

Johnmcl7

I had this phone and didn't like it although I had it when first released - on 3G the batterylife was laughable and the phone seemed to muck up 3G to 2G changes or vice versa, I'd take it out of my pocket to find out it had completely locked up. Hardware wise it was great, the screen was bright, the processor is fast (although the ram is limited) and the camera was good but ultimately I found it was a letdown as a phone. John

Narfette

does it mean talk time 3 hours? before the battery dies?.. that doesnt sound that great...

Contacted Orange earlier, the person I spoke to was the most helpful chap I've ever spoken to, rang me back three times, also rang the person the "orange" sims was registered to so he could arrange the code. Had no problems at all. Hats off to Orange Customer Services on this occasion, couldn't fault the chap for his helpfulness. He told me it could take 7-10 days for the code arrive and asked if I wanted it by email or post (I chose email) cost for the code £20.00 cost from unlock shops I contacted £35.00 - £40.00. There was one in London who would do it for around £15.00 but as I'm a tad far away from there I though Orange would be cheaper.

Magic_monkey

Obviously they've changed their policy so that you use the phone on Orange for at least 3 months and hope that by that time you've been won over by Orange or you can no longer be bothered to change network. Cunning. When you phone them how do they know if you've had the phone for 3 months? Do they ask? Sim card dependant? Or just buy a phone 3 months in advance if you want to buy an Orange refurb!

sneale

When I telephoned they said they won't consider unlocking for 3 months :?

Magic_monkey

Can't you just call up orange and ask them to send you the unlocking code? They will require a £20(?) top-up to pay for it though.

slinkydonkey

Im not sure this was such a great deal after all...the reason being? because it is locked to the orange network! and to unlock it requires a bb5 box like from ]here which is £200!!! I guess I should have done my research first if I had of done I would have bought an E65 off ebay which has already been unlocked! and most go for the same price. This forum is great but bad for the impulsive people like me :O) the phone is going back under the 7 days distance selling act! see how much orange like that! :whistling:

Mine cam boxed but an unmarked black box with a label on the side saying "ebay samsung u600 payg" There was not data cable or headset, but the headset does not really bother me and I can use bluetooth for file transfers The phone is Orange branded but mine was unlocked. I bought one of these from play over Christmas. The GPS works great with my Nokia 6630 and you would struggle to get a GPS on its own for this price. But the software will be expensive unless you already have some GPS software or know some one who has. Also Nokia do free mapping software on their sight although I've not tried it myself. So ditch the software and just use the GPS!

maby61

Yes these phones are unlockable, either by paying for a code from orange (about £20) or by taking it to an independant phone shop who should be able to offer the service for about £10

anyone know how to unlock them?

Had mine since launch & it only "crashes" every few months.

My W950i was hopeless, as it would quite often freeze. Then you had to remove the battery & turn it back on. switch it on Monday morning & if you was lucky, it would be ready to make a call Friday afternoon. I'd never get another one of these phones, & it wasn't a one of either. As i had it replaced 3 times, & they were all the same. Cold i'm afraid.

I had one when they were new and it was dreadful! Even with a firmware update, it was a disaster in my opinion. Battery life was ... well, unacceptable at a day maximum (for me) and it was prone to crashing a fair amount. WiFi was very hit and miss, and the camera was pretty poor too (I didn't expect much to be quite honest). Putting a 2GB card in made music a bit of fun, but, the sound quality was worse than my K750i via the same Sony MDR-EX71 buds. What annoyed me the most was the poor signal and the tendancy to never say when a message had failed to send. I would be hounded by the GF for not replying to her, when in reality I had, but the phone had just left messages in the outbox with no warning. Not fun at all! Though getting it for £50 on contract new, I sold it 9 months later used (and honestly) on eBay for £160 with a 2GB card. People are mad. At the end of the day, assuming these have now been upgraded with better firmware, I can see that the deal is okay if you are prepared to battle!

I chanced buying a 2gb card when got the phone and its been fine on that front. It was a Sandisk card, not sure that would matter. Anyone risked 4gb :)

gogboy

For speed, ease of use and durability...doubt it as it fails on all counts. My one has had very light use and the joystick navigator button looks like its about 10 years old. Better off with an ancient 8210/8310 or newer the likes of a 6230. Gimmicky yes, good..well not really. Has some plus points but the negatives outweigh them.

showman37

Mine was new and I'm using a 1gb card in it with no problem, to get the talking text bit to work you need to download a voice from the Nokia website

sburley

Mine looks decidely 'secondhand', rather than 'refurbished', marks/damage on the case and just plain dirty. Not impressed and will return.

That applies to all Motorola Mobile UI's. But the L6 isn't that great, but like any menu system you get used to it, I have the Motorola L6 in black as a spare phone and it's ok.

Good price, but tbh this isnt a great phone in my opinion - found it all a bit fiddly and not as logical as it should be.

silps

Get hold of the Motorola Phone Tools software then you can edit mp3 to use as ringtones as well as manage pictures. Also the best bit is the software lets you synchronize with your contacts in Microsoft Outlook. I have the L6 and it is a nice phone but does take its time to start up and move around menus. Sometimes the sound quality is awful if you don't hold it right.

Sorry for the link. Yes you do get what you pay for, and Orange price for a 6 month warranty refurb N80 of £190 is a rip off. Its made out that Ebay is full of dodgy sellers, those with a bit of nous about them know better. If people are concerned about buying phones that might be barred ask the seller for the imei number of the handset, simply call the network or Nokia and they will tell you if it is lost or stolen. I was simply pointing out/giving evidence that these phones CAN be had NEW with 2 year warranty for far less than £190. For anyone who wants to check this simply do a search for N80, finished items, above £80. Regarding Orange's warranty on reconditioned, its 6 months not 12 months: ]http://www.orangeaccessories.co.uk/whatrecon.aspx

deleted4577

No linls to ebay pls.. If you want to buy in flebay, you get what you pay for. You can live without a charger or a dent but not many others. Also, a refurb phone will be in pristine condition from Orange with 12 months Full warranty :)

riker71

I know. Take a look: Ebay ended items for N80 brand new, prices starting at £92 for one without a charger (no big deal,) upto around £160, plenty around the £100-£120 mark. If a seller has good feedback and 100% then its worth it IMO. Great phone although the battery lie suck compared to my 6680/6630 and I dont even use the WiFi or BT much xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx I got an n80 refurb from 3 (12 month warranty) a few months back on talk 1000 (750 mins+150 sms), £100 quidco and £17.50 per month for the whole 18 month contract, total price including all mins £215 or £11.94/month. Anyone paying £180 for a refurb PAYG N80 from Orange is being slightly ripped off. also remember folks, Refurbs from Orange only have a 6 month warranty as opposed to a 2 year warranty when new.

g33za

aren't these now unlockable with the BB5 unlocker from Dejan? Edit: maybe not... N90 and N91 are...

I have one - as soon as 12 months are up am selling it. Awful phone. Sometimes just wont get past the nokia screen. Wont let you read texts occassionaly. Crashes on a regular basis. Absolutely awful IMO. Sorry.

fizziebabes

anyone know where to get the cheapest replacement LCD screen for this phone, thanks (have prices from ebay)

Syzable

Voted hot. I had one on a contract from 3 and it was ok to be honest. Never had a problem with it. The main problem is people who are happy say nothing most of the time. People who have a problem with it tell everyone and post it everywhere. Nothing ever fell off, never crashed and still works now (gave it to a mate). In fact i find the N73 i now have is worse, as that crashes all the time.

duckmagicuk2

I voted cold on this. The phone is the buggiest phone I know. I do NOT recommend it. I know three people who've had it. Two of them have sent it back for repair twice (one of them twice within the first month!) and the other is having trouble with the memory card slot. Whilst trying to find a solution for these people I found the CNet reviews for this phone. The consumer comments appauled me. Around nine in ten users gave the phone a 2/10 or 3/10 with comments such as "this phone is a disgrace to nokia". http://www.cnet.com.au/mobilephones/phones/0,239025953,240055288,00.htm Literally... if you have this phone you're going to have to live with it. It's terribly awful. It crashes to a white screen regularly, bits fall off, things come lose, the speaker is often distorted and needs repair, and it also seems to crash if a text message comes though while you're talking. So... in short... STAY AWAY.

duckmagicuk2

Vodafone do a scheme where you top up and get 10% extra in credit. ie. top up £15, and get credited £16.50. Quite a good offer. The beauty of it being that you can use the credit for anything you like.

Matt-C

i think the Free Text Top-Up plan is better: £10 top-up: 300 texts 1MB orange world access £20 top-up 600 texts 1MB orange world access £30 top-up 1000 texts 1MB orange world access also 600 mins free to orange phones between 7pm and 12am

You can unlock the phone (LG) for 13 pounds by buying a special clip on ebay, but this can then be resold.

The LG range - great phones for confident metrosexuals.

Not a very detailed review there. In what way is it naff?

I have one and Orange will unlock these for £20 (they have to ask Nokia directly for the codes which are handset specific as it is a BB5 phone).

The Orange shop at Croydon is selling the C550 for £69.99 if you buy £10 credit. Other Orange shops might be selling it at this price too. I'd personally choose this over the C500 because of the improved screen (240x320 instead of 176x220).

Chris206

you'll get a usb cable for about 2 quid. same as a psp cable i believe if you want to search for that instead.

charlie71

ARRGH..... no cable... Great phone, but comes with no usb cable... So cannot unlock it.... If i cant find a cheapish on eon ebay it's going back..! charlie
