ORCHESTRA OF ST JOHNS SMITH SQUARE

This is the orchestra of St John's first series of concerts at Kings Place.
Each concert will feature a contemporary piece by an English composer, a solo cantata by JS Bach and one of the earlier Haydn symphonies. These concerts contain an interesting contrast of styles and content. The three English pieces, well crafted and extremely accessible, will probably be a new experience for most listeners. The solos cantatas of JS Bach are perhaps the most beautiful of all the cantatas. These three feature an oboe (Cantata 82), an oboe d'amore (Cantata 170) and a trumpet (Cantata 51). Although the Haydn symphonies are relatively early works we have chosen some of the most exciting orchestral music the composer ever wrote.
