First post so be kind. Orchids £3.50 at IKEA Brilliant for mothers day. Bought 3 of these the other day in Leeds store. £3.50 is an amazing price for these orchids but I'm pretty sure I bought mine for £3

We bought some large lovely rose plants in IKEA Braehead for £6. They had the orchids too. Good prices.

Just think they are great value. You could pay £45 for an orchid at M&S. These are every bit as good and lots more choice. I've bought orchids before from IKEA and they last and last.

These were £4.50 other week. Love them and a bargain, will call in when im passing Friday

I received an IKEA orchid as a gift 5 years ago and it's still going strong!

I bought two of the B&Q ones last Saturday - they were the double orchids in ceramic pots for £5 each. It says to feed them Baby Bio Orchid food - is this really necessary and how often do you water orchids (no instructions came with the plant)? Thank you.

They need very little water. I just use a spray and spray the roots about twice a week but I do use feed in the water. When they finish flowering they may look dead but just stick with them and they come back good as ever. As some people have said the IKEA ones last for years. We have had ours well over 5 years and they are still going strong. That's why I was so pleased to see them reduced. :))))))

I water mine (at the moment in this weather) once in just over a week. You can tell when a orchid needs to be water by just looking at the roots in the pot (handily they are usually potted in a clear pot!). Once they turn a almost grey like colour you need to water them. The best way is to place in the sink and pour water all around but NOT on top like in the leaves as this will cause the orchid to rot inside. Be sure to let all water to drain too!

I don't find orchid food completely necessary but there's this orchid spray that's very handy and easy to use, I think you can get it from most garden centres. I've briefly looked at the bio stuff and looks a little complicated and too much effort but highly recommend the spray if you're looking for a feed.

When not in bloom and in the winter I can leave them for up to 3 weeks til I water them! Best bet is to look at the roots, you don't want to over water and kill the roots where they turn a brown colour and 'flat'. Watered roots will turn a nice green colour.

...I've picked up 25p, 50p reduced orchids at tescos before and they've re-flowered! As long as you don't over water them and get the lighting right..best placed on the window sil where sunrise happens as the early morning sun is the weakest thereby not as hot.

Think you are doing something wrong there. They should not look dead. Then again my Paph remains a pain in the bum getting mealybug again and again and looking like its donald ducked.

the range at meadowhall retail park (some other stores might have some) has some in at £3.99 for a single spiked phal.

got a nice yellow one that had another spike cut off near the base but that's started to grow
