Hmmm...I had a flirtation with all of Aldi's speciality flours for bread making. I'm sure they're perfectly fine but I concluded that they're just not worth the trouble.

Doughs made with things like spelt & dark rye have a weird consistency. They rise nicely but then collapse in the oven to leave you with a bread flavoured biscuit! Also spelt tastes funny.

My advice...just stick with the ordinary white & wholemeal.
My friend is the best bread Baker she always says the cheaper the flour the better the bread she uses value
I make bread, bread buns & pizza dough -asda 69p bread flour is great

Have a go with Shipton Mill i can recommend the Organic Three Malts and Sunflower Brown Flour and the Organic Light Malthouse Flour, both make a real tasty loaf

I'm sure the flour is great but the price definitely isn't! £2.70 for a 1.5 kg bag vs 55p (for white & wholemeal) at Aldi & Lidl! I like my bread but not THAT much. Also if I want a 'malted' taste, I just add liquid malt instead of sugar. However I reckon black treacle gives a better depth of taste.

Read it better next time plz, the small bags are 2.5kg and the malt flour I buy is £15.50 for a 16kg sack, the malt flour is similar to the hovis flour and it also comes with the whole malted grains and is totally different than adding malted barley extract. With the three malts flour I only add one teaspoon of honey or sugar as that is more than enough to feed the yeast.
One of the best place to order flour shipton-mill.com/

I haven't bought much flour recently. I stocked up big time in anticipation of a certain highly disruptive national event (which as it transpired didn't happen & hopefully never will!) & I'm running down what I bought in February.

But if memory serves, wholemeal is 55p a 1.5kg bag from both Aldi & Lidl.

Brexit is definitely going to happen and it can’t come soon enough, anyhow, 55p is a good price if its British wheat if not then id rather pay a little more at asda because theirs is British wheat.

Yeah. That was my reaction entirely! However if they want to whistle a happy tune to keep their spirits up, there's no harm in that...

Some of them are so far detached from reality, the rest of the world must be looking in thinking Brits have actually gone mad.

The irony here is that the widespread adoption of the early '60s Chorleywood Bread Process (an industrial process developed by chemical engineers as opposed to bakers) was necessary basically because the bulk of British flour isn't actually that good for bread making (it's protein content is too low).

If you're old enough & unlucky enough to have been brought up on Mother's Pride, you'll know in a heartbeat why we absolutely need to stay in The EU!
