Great price for a great watch, but should be warned that there's a chance of getting hit with an import tax

They declare the true customs value now and ship by DHL who charge for every parcel entering the UK if over the VAT Duty allowance. You can pay more on shipping to avoid taxes but you get no boxes or warranty booklets and if they deem the watch too expensive to risk shipping they send by DHL so you get hit by customs. They try and say still cheaper than buying in a shop, which is not true on some watches, becareful.

Recently got a nice Orient for a Christmas present. Import fee paid online was £25. Fair enough really given the saving.

Not entirely true, as if you pay to have it delivered by royal mail, you get everything except the box. Warranty booklets and all. For a watch such as this awesome Bambino, its not going to be deemed too expensive to risk shipping and switch to DHL after you paid not to.

Arabic dial please.

A reasonably classic and timeless design, which is then IMHO totally spoiled by the red element of the company logo.

I can only go off of experience and what others say in the watch forums, paid extra on a longines to come via Royal mail and they sent it with no books as they are very heavy and sent DHL with out telling me, so hit by customs and DHL processing fee, they would not refund the postage I paid.
I agree on this price point they will probably allow it to be shipped Royal mail.

A work colleague just got hit for £57 customs charges on a £226 watch from them today, he chose the free DHL delivery, it did come with box and booklet. So you do need to factor in the import tax and processing cost.

How can something be "REASONABLY classic and timeless"?

My comment was ... “a reasonably classic and timeless design” and I am not sure what you take issue with? A watch can be as stated, In the same way it can be reasonably (to a moderate or acceptable degree) unattractive, aesthetically pleasing to they eye, or otherwise.

Nah - anything descrbed as " Classic" and/or "Timeless" is terminolgically absolute, so to qualify such an absolute as "reasonably" is just silly. Feel free to think otherwise and be wrong.

I gave up with Creation watches a while ago after being hit with charges. However just seen this thread, and looked on their web-site.

Is the 'pay extra for Royal Mail' supposed to mean that they are actually paying all the tax and handling fees upfront? The slower (Royal Mail) service saves them money, the 'no box' reduces the package size (saving money), so I presume that, combined with the few pounds extra, this covers the VAT and handling. But if you are effectively being charged upfront for the fees how can you then be charged VAT again by DHL (if Creation decide to send it DHL anyway)?

Aye, let’s just run with me being “wrong” and the resultant hope that going forward, it somehow helps you.

Your being wrong helps nobody fella, just makes your comment look a bit silly, that's all. Don't worry about it so much.

And there in lies the amusement.

Indeed it does. Oh and it's "therein".

It’s like shooting fish in a barrel. That said, there comes a time when even I have to take the lid off the tin and blow the candle out.
