Orient are a sister company of Seiko and all their watches are built in house. To find an in house built automatic divers watch certified to 200 metres for under £100 is an absolute bargain, and a good looking one at that. It wears well and very comfortable.

Good starter or budget automatic watches. About the going rate for this watch if you look around but to those who don't like the idea of spending a fortune on a watch, an Orient is a good alternative to the usual Quartz's you find in this price range.

I have a modded blue version. It's a lovely watch, but the bracelet's a bit annoying.

Finally, someone has posted a real watch from a real watchmaker for a change. Voted HOT!

This is - as stated above - the going rate for this watch.

Price has gone up now.

who would dive to 200m?

Would you put this on a fish?

Nice looking watch and some good reviews on Amazon

Troll or genuinely ignorant?

This will be a genuinely good watch. Hit from me, though I don't know what the usual price is.

A good brand. The Americans seem to like Orient. They are on about the same level as Seiko. The price is not that spectacular though.

if your a recreational diver with the advanced padi you can only go to 40m after that its tri-mix etc and more complicated ,and tbh you'd be using a dive computer (looks like a watch ) just saying

Last time I looked, its newer bigger brother was only £101. Only problem I have with these watches is the timekeeping. They can be out by up to 15 seconds a day, does not sound a lot but over a 10 day period it soon starts to show. Nice to see a sweeping second hand but that is the only advantage for me

Orient are lovely watches. They are half owned by Seiko. Still Japanese made also I think.. I have a ten year old Mako still going strong...

He is referring to the quartz crystals by which many watches (not this) regulate the time. The frequency of the signal is used as its very accurate.

The Mako is a great watch but £99 is about the going rate for these. In fact I'm pretty sure I got mine for less.

A word of warning - the face is not sapphire crystal as most more expensive watches are, and it's pretty easy to smash it (or at least, I found it pretty easy to smash mine!).

He is referring to apostrophes, by which many people regulate grammar. The frequency of use makes grammar very accurate.

Great watch! Heat from me.

But that is from outside the UK so you will have to pay import duty on top.

If I understand correctly, depths on watches are static depths i.e. watch not moving. When swimming or diving you might want to halve the depth claim....

For those who have never seen the Orient Mako up close you would find it difficult to discern much quality difference between it and something costing £500 or more.. I also have an Orient Star which is just stunning...

It's not a nice watch though.

Design looks like a replica of Rolex sub.

Err, that's exactly what it is.

I have an open heart Orient model with a leather strap, absolutely gorgeous piece. Always manages to grab the attention of people. Not bad for a £100 watch that rivals the £300+ quartz equivalent.

Bought a couple of Seiko's from creation and never paid any import tax, they arrived within a week. If your buying from creation make sure you pay extra (£3 in this case) for a genuine box because it comes in a cheap generic plain box otherwise.

For those quibbling over depth ratings, here is a useful guide.

As can be seen, just because a watch says it is rated at 30 metres, don't go expecting it to work after a quick shower, never mind swimming (my daughter learned this the hard way).

That's just the way the rating system has been devised but I suspect many people, including a couple on here, aren't aware of it.

In terms of the Orient, I have a Mako XL which I bought from Creationwatches in Singapore (extraordinarily quick delivery, literally 48 hours from order to delivery with no customs charges) and it is a very decent watch albeit the strap isn't the same high quality as my Seiko Orange Monster. Both are rated at 200m and have screw-down crowns.

Plus, many people who buy divers watches don't do a load of diving but instead love these type of watches for their looks, luminescence features as well as their solid (over) engineering, usually way above that of dress watches.

This watch wouldn't make it to 40m.

No, it's a replica of the Seamaster Planet Ocean. The Orient Ray is the Submariner.

I've got a Black Mako, in fact i'm wearing it now. Had it 5 yrs and its never more than +4 seconds fast in 24hrs.
Very good quality watches..... although i think i prefer the look of the later model the Ray.

Also, i only paid £70 for my Mako...... if you're looking at spending £100 on a Jap auto watch, it may be worth stretching another £30 for a Seiko Monster.

i have one of these in orange, vewry nice it is too
