I know that opinion is pretty mixed about Origin (some pretty dissatisfied customers by the looks of it), but at this price it's still got to be worth a look.

You have to pay the lot upfront for £139.99. Works out to £11.666666666 a month. Don't think I've ever seen it this cheap.

Preparing myself for plenty of down votes from the Origin haters, but sounds like a bargain on paper.

So as I've said before, Sky £70 TCB and £50 Mastercard £18 a month all in plus £19.95 setup - £9.66.

My experience with Origin has been unfortunately mixed from the past year I've been with them.

I could sum it up as the customer services being generally poor, unhelpful and tragically understaffed judging by the queue wait times when calling, but the technical support has to be one of the best I've experienced. Generally, the service is pretty reliable and they do get to the advertised predicted speeds, which is surprising being in a property in the country 3 miles from the exchange on a EO line.

So as long as you don't have to call customer services for *any* reason regarding your account or billing, it's not a bad broadband deal.

You would literally have to be next to the exchange with the BT cabbinate right of the side of that to be able to get 17mb non-fibre broadband, why are they even allowed to advertise this ???

No thanks they are a joke

to be fair they all say "up to" they will give you your predicted speed when you sign up, or at least that is the case with BT/Sky etc

From the looks of it they just use BT-Wholesale as their equipment supplier, but then it still has to get to Orgin backend thats the part you have to worry about. No ones going to help you when you have a problem.

Been perfect for me after a year, good speed (70ish) and doesn't block torrent sites like the mainstream providers. Never had an issue to have to contact customer services so can't comment on that.

I was with them for 3 months until enough was enough and I went elsewhere, funnily enough they’ve never chased for the remaining 9 months money!! Excellent advertised speed for the first week, then it all started going badly wrong. 80mbps down to 2mbps if we were lucky. Huge waits on the phone until I’d had enough.
Wished I’d done some research first.
Cold from me.

Hopefully you can pay with a credit card so if they go bump in the New Year you'll get your money back, worth a punt if you have a backup 4g with loads of data in case things go wrong.

Just and only if they are the only provider to choose from…

I have experienced a number of issues since I moved to Origin.

The broadband speed was way below the advertised speed. It was only increased after I made a complaint.

On one occasion I was actually overcharged in one billing month by £55.

Currently, I have no phone line and it has been down for over 6 days now and they cannot tell me when the issue will be resolved.

I am seriously considering returning to my former ISP

origin are the worst. they over charge for phone use and provide terrible customer support.

Think you’ve got you’re maths wrong

Tried it & binned it after a few weeks of the worst speeds/most disconnections I've ever had, might of improved now......

Been with them 4 months, nightmare, service keeps cutting out or slowing right down. complained many times when i could get through.
Told many times they would phone back, but they never do.
They have now agreed to cancel now with £90 odd refund after threatening with the ombudsmen, said they will email confirming this, but now no email.
JUST DON'T USE THEM. you will regret it

I haven't, but perhaps I've not been clear.

18 x 12 + 19.95 - 70 - 50 is 115.95 for the year.

i spent over 2 hours on hold to origin yesterday evening as my broadband speed is less than 2mbps, so virtually non existent. the first person i spoke to told me that these speeds can only be guaranteed using an ethernet cable and not wifi..it was when i said thats not ok i was put on hold for more than 2 hours and i then gave up. this is not the only issue i have had with them..i would advise anyone to use origin

sorry should have said i would NOT advise anyone to use Origin

just go to top cashback as you need to for the £70 anyway - it's the unlimited broadband for £18 (NOT fibre)

I paid a year at the beginning of january, got connections only in march and tcb still has not paid wow yeh, please just dont use them. Only good thing is their asus modem but you can buy it with a decent provider

Origin are pretty shocking. My sister is in spitting distance of her exchange and get 11mb on a good day, sky managed 18.5mps pretty much all the time. The so called tech support to be fair couldn't find their bum with both hands! Buyer beware with these lot!

What's with the attitude? I pointed out a CHEAPER deal. It may work for you, it may not. I know many people, my brother included, who have no problems with Sky's service. On the other hand, many more negative reviews around about Origin. You pays your money and you takes your choice.

I've been with Origin for nearly a year. Only the last couple of months have I managed to get a stable service. I've had numerous visits from Openreach engineers and had the wiring replaced coming into my home, which never made a difference. I had their initial free Asus router which seemed decent, however my signal kept dropping and I was advised to change it. Only when I changed my router to a significantly better one did my experience change, my speed increased and my connection has been fairly stable since. All in all I'd consider staying with them now at this price, I may contact them to see if it's available to existing customers.

Thanks OP

They are abysmal seriously avoid at all costs unless you like constant dropouts or below 2mb connection and zero customer service!

If you are after headache, then go for origin, the worst customer service you will experience. Its not worth any money.

its a 2 year contract, the first year is discounted, and the second year is... (from their website under legal bits):

  • Following the 12-month contract, you’ll be placed on a rolling one-month contract at the non-promotional price which currently stands at £19.49 for line rental, and £9.99 for our unlimited broadband. The price may increase or decrease in the future.

the worst broadband provider ever.
internet outage at least twice a day. i wouldn’t stay with them even if its free.
