Good review and progress being made on Cyanogenmod for those with worries about naughty hidden software.

Not the most robust tablet and Windows runs a bit sluggish but otherwise looks very good: nice display, good antutu benchmark, android and chrome fast and smooth, seems pretty good for gaming.

Remember you are likely to get hit by the new Royal Mail Banggood handling charge of £11.42 when costing it up.

According to the Royal Mail site the handling charge is still £8

They have a specific charge for stuff sent by bangood? Is this on everything or a risk?

A number of us ordered phones and were hit with an £8 handling charge and VAT on whatever was quoted as the value ($26 in my case).

Worth reading through the recent Banggood threads.

That is not uncommon and part of the risk that you take when ordering from China.

It won't be exclusive to Banggood though, just the luck of the draw based on what items will be inspected by customs.

Not sure, I've never had this with Gearbest, presumably because they use Yodel? As far as I can see, the item hadn't been inspected by customs, and it's Royal Mail who have checked the value and applied the appropriate VAT and handling charge (much like DHL). Could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time

Gearbest, Geekbuying and the like have a habit of switching providers as it suits them and I have received items via Royal Mail from both.

Only customs can levy the import duties.

Royal Mail can only add their £8 fee and collect the money, or advise customs if they see that a charge hasn't been levied but that would involve them opening the package and they could only do so under certain circumstances.

By all accounts most packages that come through the snail mail route will avoid being checked but times may change if customs were to be given more ability to check more items.
