Brand New and from the Asus online store, the original Nexus 7 Docking station for £17.49 with free delivery

This deal was posted about a month ago but there was a £6 delivery charge on top from the Asus online store at that time. I checked last night and although it states free delivery for orders over £80, when I added one to the basket it shows UPS delivery free. Ordered one at £17.49 and just got despatch email. Not sure if its a glitch or not but worth it at that price!

How can it be optimised for viewing movies? Surely it would need to be landscape for movies?

When you place the nexus 7 in the dock it is in landscape.

This doesn't have speakers. It's just a dock for charging.

I think you're mistaking the USB port with the Docking Port. You may not have noticed the Docking Port on the side of the Nexus but it is there. Looking at the Nexus in Portrait mode, the docking port is on the left hand edge. If you have a case on your Nexus there's a good chance the port is covered by the case.

Still overpriced

those pins transfer power to the digitizer from the mainboard

also look at refurbed items

i5 laptop for under 350

Guessing this won't work with the new Nexus 7 2013 model?

Great price. I bought one of these a few months ago after my Nexus stopped charging via the micro USB port.

You're joking, right?

Ordered Thanks - My charging port was replaced 3 days before 1 year warranty expired... this will work fine if charging port dies again.

I've got one of these. They were really over priced, especially when you consider you don't even get a USB to plug cable. I had no choice as like many, my N7 stopped charging over the bottom connector but charges fine with this.

I would grab this for the convenience of being able to charge in another room but the new Nexus 7 uses wireless charging so it'll become useless sooner rather than later.

It is very well made, nice and heavy.

Nice one Blasphemous, I wondered what that was for!

Nice one OP. Just ordered - have some heat.
Now all I need is a replacement screen! Anyone know the best deal on a replacement lcd/digitizer?

Sigh...more bad info.

I could do with one of these, because use mine on night shifts to watch movies and TV series. One question, (for those who have one) does the dock charger the N7 better compared to a mains charger whilst watching videos?

You plug the mains charger into the dock...if that helps.

Decisions, decisions...
Could do with one, as my micro usb port is quite loose, but I'd have to abandon my case.

Too much of a pain to remove the case every time I want to use it. You'd think they would have made the Asus cases compatible with this by leaving a hole or holes for the pogo pins.

Asus must be trying to dump them before they get stuck with too many since Google have already stopped selling them.

That's still not speakers and I saw a review that said the volume from this jack is lower than the jack on the nexus itself. I can't really see the advantage to this when you could just plug the usb charger into the nexus and use the built in 3.5mm jack for external speakers. Maybe if you don't use a case and find plugging the micro usb in tedious?

As for the micro usb port breaking, some people must be quite rough on their devices as I have devices from years ago that still have working micro or mini usb ports.

I have plenty of old devices where the ports are perfectly fine, thanks, smr1.

Consider the problem might not be people being particularly rough or clumsy - and might be that the nexus 7 has a particularly weak port...

Fantastic! Bought one for my mother's Nexus 7.

My nexus was a day 1 but it's USB port has just broken - this is the first time anything like this has ever happened so I think its a design flaw

I'd much rather have the dock than a case. My Nexus 7 has gone through pretty much every day wear and tear and was bought within days of it first coming out and it hasn't got a scratch on it. The screen is scratch free too. I don't think it's like a phone where it's getting scraped around in your pocket with keys and what not. The case is just not as necessary as it is on a phone.

I did buy a case btw but it just really annoyed me, it would slide around and cover the volume button, added height to the bezel which made it harder to swipe near the edge of the screen.

I say throw down your case and embrace a naked Nexus!

It's a pretty well documented flaw at this point. It was never designed to survive as a way to charge your Nexus day in day out. That's what the pogo pins on the side were always for but the dock took so long to come out, everyone had to.

"The USB port was never designed to survive as a way to charge the unit..."??? There may or may not be a problem with charging via the USB port but I'm fairly certain it was designed as the charging port for the Nexus.

Yes you can charge over USB from the bottom connector. All I meant was that wasn't its primary role. I think that was for when it wasn't convenient to use the dock or until you bought a dock. As a connection it is a little bit delicate as are all those tiny USB connectors on cameras and other devices. The pogo pins on the side were designed to get hammered day in day out.

I don't use a case or screen protector with either my phone or my tablet. As techpop says nothing beats the feel of a 'naked' device. Especially with my phone I know I'm not going to be using it any longer than 24 months so I know I can still keep it in good condition in that time without any protection. Just like the Sensation XE I'm typing this post on. It's two years old and still mint.
