I disagree. I'd say it was a TV box running Android

I grabbed this a while back not long after its release.

Top notch build quality, runs Android TV nicely, DRM for Netflix etc etc

Downsides are slow release and updates/fixes from Xiaomi and lack of root/recovery (the biggest disappointment for me tbh). Wifi was pretty stable and the UI was always slick with no slowdown.

Had to research and buy a USB hub with built in Ethernet though as it only has one USB port and no SD slot.

On 6 the 'Expandable Storage' is buggy as hell (code was backported from 7) but apparanlty stable on the 7 beta.

If you are just after a TV box to run Google stuff, Netflix and a bit of Kodi for home videos then this is a nice little box. If you are after something more then you would do better with another box at a similar price TBH. As much as it pains me to talk bad about a Xiaomi product...

Tempting, but as all I need is plex and a simple launcher I guess there are much cheaper options.

If you're not too bothered about HEVC content, the Raspberry Pi could be an alternitive.

I run IPTV, Plex and Netflix off of this box that I paid £55 for a few months back.

For my streaming needs this is more than adequate as it runs smooth like butter and absolutely zero buffering.

The lack of no Ethernet port and lack of updates from Xiaomi were at first worrying when I first read reviews especially regarding its basic UI but it runs fast and troublesome and for something I don't want to spend time and effort tinkering around with custom ROMs and launchers it's amazing value.

Simple UI, excellent remote with Google Voice integration and Google TV (not a generic android box with android for tablets), fast and cheap you can't go wrong.

Edit: This is for the International English version and not the Chinese version offered in this deal.

Thats my downside really, I like to 'play'

When I move, the Mi will definaltey have its place as its a nice little box but it wont be one of my main boxes.

SOT: Ive been looking at the IPTV side of things lately (for when I move), have you any recomendations or places to start looking? Seperate App or Kodis builtin IPTV etc

The MI 3s is the Chinese version isn’t it and doesn’t run Android TV or have the google play store.

if I recall correctly the 3s doesn’t support chrome cast either but other MI box does?

Good catch mate this version is far inferior than the international version.

Looks like you can flash international ROM but has these caveats.

C. SOME POINTS WHEN INSTALLING GLOBAL INSTALL:
No AirPlay, no MiraCast
No SMB, no DLNA
No Recent Apps (Android 6)
Google Cast / Google Home does not work
Netflix does not work
Mi Box will lose the serial number
If you installed Firmware Global and Update OTA to Android 7.0 (currently):
- Can not go back to MDZ-19-AA root firmware
- Remote of HOME will lose HOME key (Press HOME on Remote Will not work) “

There's a Satellite/IPTV mega thread on here, start from there

Pfft I did not even know about the other sections of the site...Had to google it...

Much appreciated mate!

No Ethernet,how bizarre.

This is a just a regular Android Box and not an Official Android TV. The Mi Box is the only official Android TV box by Xiaomi.

Hey how did u run IPTV on one of these? Did u download iptv app or do they have separate function to upload m3u?

I have the global version which I have been using for a week now. The lack of ethernet bothered me at first but I decided to give it a go and it has streamed all my BluRay rips with no buffering or stuttering. Impressive

How is it with 4k content?
