Anybody found the all black variant in stock anywhere yet?

Where can I buy the black version?

Global rom?

Original Poster

I looked for a black one and contacted the seller goldway, they told me it was a stock issue and they will be getting the phone in black but were unable to confirm when. Bear in mind, the black coloured phone will more expensive.

It's a global rom, with ota updates.

Excellent phones IME though worth noting this one has no band 20.

How is the camera compared to the note 3 pro?

Global rom?

Is typing 'global ROM?' easier than clicking 'get deal'?

Any reviews based on this model?

Is this one new then? Recall seeing loads of comments on Note4 being less desirable to the Note3 as it wasnt snapdragon SOC

Yep. That's the recently released version of note 4 with sd soc.

Comparing specs to the Note 3 - its extremely similar, but the Note 3 has Snapdragon 650 Processor and 16mp camera (Note 4X has 625 processor and 13mp camera)
It doesnt seem an upgrade to their most popular model the Note 3

I think this may be wrong model the redmi note 4 has the snapdragon 625 the redmi note 4x has the snapdragon 653 here is a link explaining this link tech.firstpost.com/new…tml so dont think this should be sold as the 4x just as redmi note 4 snapdragon 625 version . As the article says the chinese version with the mtk helio x20 launched on the 8th february with the international version with snapdragon 653 to follow
Now this snapdragon 625 is about the same as the redmi note 3 snapdragon 650

Definitely the right spec, I have a note 3 snapdragon 650, running global development ROM, anyway as part of the ROM I have mi forum app, and that had official specs on Feb 14, the snapdragon 625 is slightly slower than 650 mainly due to GPU, but has a much lower power requirements as it fabricated at 14nm so the battery (already good) will last 20℅ longer.
Camera is apparently a much better module with better low light performance.

The naming is confusing but it is correct. It is shown as Snapdragon 625 on the official Chinese MI store/site. That article you linked is regarding the speculation of a higher end model that didn't surface (or has yet to). Article here when the Note 4x was first revealed also mentions the naming confusion

As already mentioned, the internals are exactly the same as on the … As already mentioned, the internals are exactly the same as on the international Redmi Note 4, which does make us wonder why Xiaomi felt the need for an "X" branding, along with the special edition description. This also brings about some additional confusion, since a higher-end Redmi Note 4X has been passing by the rumor mill as well.

I think you'll find the '4x' is purely just a colour scheme..

if you want a note 4 but better, there is a version, called, the redmi pro, basicly a note 4 upgrade

4X uses the Snapdragon 625, 4 uses MT6797.
There is the 4 Indian version which also uses Snapdragon as Xiaomi can't sell Mediatek in India, but I haven't seen that available anywhere outside India yet.

Redmi Pro uses MT6797 again, so not an upgrade to everyone.

so as I said the 4x is just a limited edition colour scheme of the Indian variant of the note 4, it's not an upgrade whatsoever, the 'x' is very misleading, the redmi pro uses an x25 where as the 4 uses a x20 chip, the Snapdragon 625 is not as fast as the x25. so as I say the redmi pro is a faster version of the note 4 (both versions soc625 & x20)

Oled screen, USB type-c, fingerprint sensor on the front, dual cameras at the rear, faster chip. definitely an upgrade. basicly £10 more than the note 4. well worth it

Personally I don't feel the X is misleading as it differentiates the Mediatek and Snapdragon versions, if anything having the Note 4 with the two different processors in India and China is likely to be more confusing. (Alleviated by the fact that the Indian version is not available outside India)

Not disagreeing that the Redmi Pro has higher specs, but doesn't always equate to real world performance.
Also if you want custom rom support the snapdragon option tends to be better.

Worth nothing not all variants of the redmi pro use the X25, only the top spec ones.

i agree they needed to separate the two versions, I just don't think calling it the 4x is very wise, it gives the impression it's somehow better or a pro version like most mobiles have, especially when a proper redmi note 4 'pro' will eventually come out like the previous two predecessors (just to confuse the less geeky people abit more lol)

Yeah true, Xiaomi just love to pump out various versions.

The Taiwan variant will have band 20 support. Not sure if it is just firmware difference, or different hardware all together.

TDD-LTE B38/B40
WCDMA 850/900/1900/2100MHz (B1/B2/B5/B8)

It is coming out March 1st.

Although its a global rom, its not the international version of the phone as it doesn't have B20 800mhz used by O2 mostly, but also to a smaller degree the others.

It seems that 2 Aliexpress stores are already selling the B20 Redmi Note 4X "Global" version.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Global-Version-Xiaomi-Redmi-Note-4-Mobile-Phone-3GB-RAM-32GB-ROM-Snapdragon-625-Octa-Core/32795263337.html

So these listings could be pre-orders for the Taiwan variant. It appears to be the same hardware/spec as the China Redmi Note 4X except with additional bands.

They're both the 4X but it does appear to be only band difference.
China site - http://www.mi.com/redminote4x/specs/
Taiwan site - http://www.mi.com/tw/redminote4x/specs/
Dimensions also appear to be the same, unlike for the Note 3 where the Taiwan version was slightly longer. The only other difference I can see is that the Hatsune Miku special edition colour appears to only be for China.

I can confirm that it is not a plastic back but metal, however where the antenna is located at the top of the phone and the bottom where the speaker is those strips are in fact plastic. I suspect that's what previous contributors meant.

Both the Indian Redmi Note 4 and the Redmi Note 4X use a construction that is the same as the Redmi Note 3. The main part of the back is still metal but the top and bottom is painted plastic to match the metal whereas the original Mediatek Redmi Note 4 has a metal unibody with antenna line construction. Saying "the note 4x is plastic backed not metal" is misleading. The difference in construction for the Indian Redmi Note 4 compared to the Chinese Mediatek is mentioned in this video @ 0:56. The Redmi Note 4X also has this metal with plastic top/bottom construction as shown in this video @ 3:04. The difference is also visually evident. Here's a side by side photo

As you can see the original Redmi Note 4 (left) has an antenna line and the top is the same shade as the main body. Whereas the Redmi Note 4X (right) is a slightly different shade for the top since it's painted plastic to match the main body, which is still metal.

Im sorry but you are wrong the note 4x has definetly got a plastic back look at this review off the miui.com forum site link en.miui.com/for…e=1 if you scroll down to the part headed DESIGN after the 2 photo's you will see this The Redmi Note 4X, like the Redmi Note 4, no longer has the curved sides that is present in the Redmi Note 3, but rather a little chamfered square edged corner that is present in the Redmi Pro and Redmi 3X. The unibody construction gives your the premium feel in your hands, it is not edgy and not very round, just enough to hold the phone comfortably in the hands. One noticeable change from Redmi Note 4X from Redmi Note 4 is its plastic battery cover versus metal from its predecessor, otherwise, nothing has changed. So you see the back is all plastic not just top and bottom
according to this review there could be a problem getting cases because it says some of the ports and camera and fingerprint scanner are in slightly different placement

Here are 2 threads that ask specifically about the top and bottom.
http://en.miui.com/thread-511863-1-1.html
http://en.miui.com/thread-508497-1-1.html
If the phone is all plastic back, I don't see why would people ask/discuss the top/bottom in particular rather than the back as a whole? Here is a spec comparison of the Note 4X, Indian SD Note 4 and Chinese Mediatek Note 4. According to spec sheet, the Note 4X and the Indian SD Note 4 weigh the same as each other, which is 10g less than the Original Mediatek. That would be odd if you're suggesting that only the Note 4X is "all plastic" but that the Indian Snapdragon Note 4 shares the same metal design as the original. Also when you do a web page translation of the Note 4X product page on both the Official Chinese and Taiwan MI sites, they say "metal body":
http://www.mi.com/redminote4x/
http://www.mi.com/tw/redminote4x/
So if it's indeed all plastic back, it would mean that's false advertising and the Techtablets video in my previous comment is mistaken.

also on this and the Indian variant of the note 4 the black bezels around the screen appear to be thicker, and if there's one I can't stand on a phone, it's them! I have no idea as to why they are bigger than the original Chinese note 4 but it's so frustrating. it's normally a good gauge on buying a Chinese mobile in regards to build quality

If I order this phone, can I put my EE sim card in and it will work straight away, or does this require some kind of technical wizardry to set it up?
