I bought one of these a few months back, and i'm lucky if I get 3000mAH out of it with a full charge.

I got 3 Xiaomi powerbanks from Gearbest and two of them were fake. They were close enough that most people wouldn't know. They even passed the scratch-off test.

Only reason I twigged it was that I got the genuine one first (bought immediately after launch so the fakers had not got a chance to clone it yet) and compared them very carefully. I took them apart and measured the capacity of the internal cells, the fakes were much lower than the genuine one.

Looking at their reviews, I saw hundreds upon hundreds of pictures of fakes based on the tell tale signs I discovered via my own ones. Everybody satisfied and thinking they got a legit one.

The only time I would buy a Xiaomi product from Gearbest is immediately after launch when the fakers have not yet cloned it. That goes especially for headphones etc. These things are endemically faked in China.

Was it the exact same one? I would have thought Xiaomi should be half decent.

I've ordered it even though I don't really need it as I've got an Anker 20000mAh and an EasyAcc 10000mAh but I figure you can always find room for another battery pack.

If it is indeed pants though, I might be tempted to cancel.

Is it easy to cancel as I’m put off now from previous comments

Xiaomi are usually a good brand...

I have an older, less thin one from xiaomi. I don't get the full 10k MAH, but having read around, you lose around 35% due to the discharge process generating heat etc.
Apologies for no link, but having had a few from other sources too (Anker etc.), I see the same with them, generally only getting 60-70% when charging a device.

The xiaomi one is one of the better ones I have found.

Just tried comes up £12.99 after code

With all of these- irrespective of the brand you only get a maximum of 70% out of it- so at most you'd get 7000mah which is enough for 2 full charges on most phones.

Having had Xiaomi before (as long as it is genuine and not a fake) a really good deal.

Wow.. very tempted. The 1st version still holding good. Xiaomi stuff are good

Item comes to £10.14 delivered cheapest way with PayPal.

Just ordered one. Cheers OP!

How is it that every Gearbest coupon increases the price for me? Is it my type of account or something? Anyone knows?

Check that you have the right currency and country. I know it sounds simple, but it happens

I have bought and used 4 Xiaomi power banks (Have ordered this one too). Have never had any issues with low stored power. 5000 mAh can easily fully charge my Moto X Force (3700+ mAh).

The only reason I can think of is that you have connected a device that is using a lot of what's being charged (i.e. drain 5000 while 8000 is charged, making is seem like 3000 mAh capacity). Just out of curiosity, what device are you charging?

The other option is by chance you have got a faulty one. All 4 I purchased are fine.

I did. I ended up buying on the app which, for whichever reason, worked. The website did not either on the phone or the website.
Thanks for the help in any case.

I was charging a Xiaomi Mi Max, as of September I am charging a Mi Max 2, with 5000mAH battery. I cant get a full charge out of it. I imagine I have just had a bit of bad luck with this. I have lots of Xiaomi products, and this is the only dodgy one i've had so far.

Warning warning only 6 pieces left!

Is this usb type c? I have the old fat version but my new phone is type c so will be worth it upgrading

It's a standard usb socket, think all you'd need to do is just add your own usb to usb c lead , unless I'm missing sth.
Edited by: "proevo21" 23rd Oct

Well, ive bought this to go with the ravpower one I bought the other day that had £10 off. To go with the blitzwolf and xiaomi ones I got off here too. Plus the anker 10,000 mah I bought specially to fly with

You could but it would mean you would need to carry two cables, one micro-usb to charge the power bank, and one usb C to charge the device from the power bank. Not the end of the world, but not perfect simplicity.

Only 4 left now so I'm buying them all to resell on ebay /s

Care to share the tell tale signs so we can check ours when we receive them?

Thanks.

It's for the older fat 3x18650 version so won't help for this one.
fakexiaomi.wordpress.com/

Subsequent to writing the guide I took the fake apart and conclusively proved it was inferior by measuring the capacity of the 18650 cells inside - they were about 2700mAh each, thus giving 8,100 mAh. The legit one had 3x 3400mAh cells inside.

The main point was to let you know that Gearbest sell a mix of genuine and fakes. A lot of people don't realize they have fakes so they will give it 5 stars. I wouldn't have realized personally except I had a legit one to compare to.

Chinese resellers always do this. They don't buy from the same suppliers / factories with each order.

And unfortunately China is the place for cloned everything. The cloned can be so bad that they start using inferior internals, even used internals and components. With a item like this I would never, ever touch a cloned one. Many cases of then exploding and all sorts.

Wouldn't touch anything electrical from Gearbest etc with a barge pole. As has already been said, you don't know what you're getting is legit, and whether the manufacturing processes for any of these items matches up to min EU standards.

At less than £10 it might seem to be worth a punt, but then would you rather not spend money on a a similar device from Anker and be sure of the quality?

Unless its been through EU/GB testing I wouldn't even have any of these products in my house, for fear of leaving them and they start a fire.

thanks for the comments decided not to buy although it does appear very tempting.

they always charge in USD?

expired???

It's always the case.. People who have purchased from Gearbest and have had a good experience with Xiaomi products are always drowned out in the comment sections of every deal by those who have never purchased from Gearbest due to misguided fears about ordering from China and are under the impression that everything made in China will spontaneously combust.

Xiaomi have been branded "the Apple of china" by some due to their outstanding build quality (better than brands such as Anker, I may add) and gearbest is a site which I have used countless times and never had any issue.

I am only ever skeptical of purchasing anything which could incur the wrath of the V.A.T. gods from sites like Gearbest / Banggood / DX. For items under £10 it's a no brainier.

Still waiting for mine...2 weeks now..

Code no longer working 😔
