And how much import duty?

Well if you got charged customs, which I did recently, but that was a £300 handset (mi mix 2) it was £12, that was including royal mall charge.

However its possible on a handset like this, you may not get charged..
But always factor in charges, because its never guaranteed.
For me the Gold 4G 64GB comes out at £113 but when selecting the Black Gold 4G 128GB the price increases to £139 on the standard bundle.

Edit:
Guess you just saw that as the header has just changed :-)

Yeah, sorry.
No worries. Still seems a good buy for all that memory.
BTW. I also got charged about £12 on my last buy from Ali, a Redmi 5 Plus.

You really have to factor it in, but they are still cheaper than most comparable phones in the UK.
Really good phone. amoled screen + decent processor and big battery. On this price is a bargain

From high street yes, some of the Amazon deals do come close. Doogee mix with similar specs was about 124 a few days ago.
Yes i agree, but doogee isn't a brand people are familiar with, zte is, if not the greatest name in OEM. But i get your point.

And i have the app installed which it takes me to directly when I click the link...
Clearly nobody else has had a problem..
Maybe you need to look into that

Looks good on paper, but what about official updates for the old, installed Android 6? I'd pay a little more for a similarly-specced Xiaomi Mi A1 / Note 5 Plus, which will at least receive regular updates. The Amoled screen on this could be the only 'benefit' over the others.
Great looking phone, great manufacturer and great price.
The £12 fees is probably based on them valuing it at $50 instead of $25 - if the true value was known it would be more.. Just FYI

Look at his username!? Even cordless DECT phones are seen as witchcraft!
Is there ever much support for Chinese phones?

Only ask as every phone I've bought ( other than the diabolical brand that is Elephone) has had some cursory updates but little after 6 months. Currently using the Doogee Mix 2 as my day to day phone and my old Oukitel K6000 Pro as my work phone. Both phones are excellent, updates? Not overly bothered. I know the market for custom roms but I'm not bothered either.

Thats impossible, unless you've committed tax evasion by allowing a fake customs declaration on the parcel.

The import tax is 20% of the total value of the parcel and Royal Mail charge an £8 admin fee.

import charges on £300 would be £68...

Because that would envolve investigation. If the parcel has $25 on it (£20) then VAT is £4 plus £8 admin. That £4 to HMRC with no work.

Though a little birdie told me that HMRC are being told they need to start getting more proactive (what with that event starting with a B on the horizon) and we could see the detection rate climbing.

at least that's the official line coming down to the worker ants

This is what they are doing. It's about detection rates and not maximum cash.
Money coming in with no work. 10,000 packets @£4 with no work/cost or 100 packets at @£20-£50 with lots of work/cost. Plus they get 20% on the Royal Mail admin fee. So £5.60 with little to no extra cost without pissing off the end customer too much.
It's just not economically viable to investigate every personal item coming in.

From what I've been told, they've been told they do need to work a bit harder and the amount coming in needs to increase. No more talking the easiest path, as proved above a £12 import charge is less than 1/5th of a £60 charge which doesn't take 5 times the time to process.

It only takes a minute to check the website for the actual selling price and stick the label on for the P.O. to collect the proper amount.

its been said that they want the new procedures in place before Brexit happens.

Until now low value item that have not used express shipping have normally let in with no customs charge.

Now many are having customs charges at the declared value (say $25) so customs (VAT) is £4. They stick the sticker on. They then add Name, postcode and house number to the handheld terminal and they are done. This is all handled by Royal Mail. They process 1 packet every 20 sec.

Now take an investigation. Item declared at $25. It's Description is electronics. You suspect it might be more expensive (10 seconds gone). It is then opened. No invoice is present in the package. The seller info is some random person Zoey Zhang (example off packet Infront of me) from some random address in Shenzhen. Now they have to look on several sites to find an average price. They have decided that it's worth £100 and VAT is due of £20. They then have to seal it back up and then do the customs declaration. They have wasted 10 mins for £20. If it is some cheap electronics and worth $25 they only make £4. Where the guy at the conveyor belt has made £120.

The other problem with not using the declension value is if they get it wrong you can make a claim (BOR286) which wastes even more man hours and costs.

They just don't have the man hours. The deceleration is there for a reason.

So going forward there is a good chance of being charged a few pounds for VAT on electronics from China but 99% of good won't and can't (time) be checked.

So the chance of being changed an extra £10-£20 for VAT is greatly increased (as seen by people already). But getting charged the full amount is is still low.

We will have to wait and see. If HUKDers start getting charged full amounts I'm sure there will be many threads!
