Been checking out some hotels in Orlando for a friend of mine and came across a fantastic price for the International Resort and Spa (this hotel used to be called The Sheraton World Resort, pic still shows Sheraton sign outside!). It is in a good location on International Drive close to Seaworld. It is rated 4 star.

The dates I checked for my friend were 22 June until 6 July for a family of 4. The price is same for 2 adults as for family of 4. It is on a room only basis. I also checked for 2 weeks from 6 July and price had only gone up slightly to £380.28

Description from the website:

Popular hotel located at the southern end of International Drive. Short walk to Sea World and Discovery Cove. 3 pools, 2 kids pools, Jacuzzi, mini-golf, fitness center and kids playground. On-site restaurant, room service. 1102 comfortable rooms featuring 2 double beds, cable TV, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron/board and fridge. Kids eat FREE program. FREE transportation to Walt Disney World.

I know International Drive quite well and this hotel does look lovely (we looked into staying there when we go this May) but you definately need a car as there are no restaurants within walking distance as it is right at the end of International Drive.

Up that end of I-Drive you are close to the premium outlets if you are into shopping (there are two different outlets, one at each end of iDrive), but like 'loveabargin' says, you will need a car. Its probably about 10 mins drive from the "main" part of I-Drive with all the main hotels etc.

For cheap families I'd recommend the bestwestern movieland. Its $52 a night for twin bed room. Opposite wet'n'wild, has ponderrosa/sizzlers all you can eat accross the road, has free bus to universal and seaworld. Universal is walkable in 15 mins if you miss the bus etc. Its not plush etc, but we only slept in it, and did 14 days in a row at the theme parks

www.tripadvisor.com is an excellent place for honest reviews of hotels and resorts.

I have stayed in that very Hotel and I cannot recommend it enough.

It is just a short walk (5mins) to SeaWorld and as for food places, there is a Maccy Ds just a short walk and a range of food outlets right opposite (Chinese, Pizza etc)

I have to say that Flippers (the pizza place opposite) is one of the nicest places I have been to.

Also the Hotel had a very nice bar and in-hotel Pizza Hut with room delivery!!

Alpha rooms also have the Comfort Inn Universal from £247.04 for a family of 4 inc continental breakfast.

Some really good prices on selected hotels at the moment.

We did comfort Inn Universal in Novemeber at similar price and definitely reccommend for the price!

If you are flexible with dates you can get fly drives from Travel City Direct to orlando(they have a website) and they do special offers plus some late deals. Their fly drive prices really do include everything and at certain times of the year can be very very cheap.

They have their own 747s and are an excellent company. I've used them twice and been impressed both times.

i too can recommend travel city. we have been with them several times before, cheapest was £79! Chinny rack on! Don't do the Orlando thing tho so can't comment on those hotels. But if anyone wants a 3bed house with own pool on Gulf Coast Pm me! ;-)

Outside school holidays there are bargains galore. If you have school age kids though the price goes through the roof from mid July

We have stayed just off International Drive and you can purchase a travel card for the buses which run from one end of the drive to another. If I remember rightly I think they run till about 11pm ish. You can hop on and off as much as you like.

However, if you can get car hire, I would. There is so much to see that you would kick yourself if you could afford to get one and didn't.
