About this deal

30% discount on their usual price- albeit they often have offers. This is for the app mapping not physical maps of course. For reference last year I paid just £14 but this is still a decent deal for full UK mapping if you’re a walker etc.
As they seem to do an offer each year I cancel my subscription within the year and then just re-buy at a discount price when they have another. IMPORTANT - Remember to canx the subscription before the end of the year if you don’t want to pay full price next year.

As an alternative, I heartily recommend the John Thorne maps in the Locus Map 3 Classic app. They cost me under 20 quid a couple of years back as a one off purchase and I just find them more readable. Here's some blurb from the creator with pics:

I bought John Thorn maps but later discovered openandromaps.org/
Which I prefer. You get the whole of Great Britain for free plus Points Of Interest.
I'm using them on Locus maps 4
I always use O.S. maps to plan a walk though.

For anyone who jumped ship from viewranger last year when it moved to Outdoor active (OA) please try outdoor active again. When I moved from VR to OA all my paid for maps on OA disappeared which I was really mad about. Logged in 1 month ago and I've got all of the UK maps at 1 25000 in my account. Might be a one off but worth a look if you bough any OS maps or tiles from viewranger. Both apps have limiatations once my OS subscription runs out in Jan 2023 I'LL go back to OA and see how it goes.

Had viewranger for years and bought loads of maps over time.
They do still work in outdooractive but now the ‘free’ first year of use of all the other extras has run out, it’s back to just the ‘legacy’ maps. Constant issues with the maps not being available once I’m out of phone signal or Wi-Fi range even if I'd put them there (unlike viewranger versions, which were always on the phone - hence why I got them!!)
I got annoyed with the constant nags to subscribe to their outdooractive + option and bought a years worth of OS ones to try at this offer price.
Still carry a paper map and a real compass, if I’ve not been to the area before though… (edited)

What does the app do that free ones don't?
    Genuine question.

For me, it's the premium topological maps. I used to use those obtained from Bing maps + Locus Map on my phone but for £14 (last year) it was worth the subscription. For OS' own site:

    Thanks OP
If it helps any folks, cancel auto renewal, pay at this price. Mine got added to the end date of my current subscription automatically
    Quidco tracked as well (edited)

Thanks for heads up, I need to cancel auto renewal from last years £14 deal. Then wait until boxing day.

I was counting on a bit better promo

It may improve on Boxing Day. New Year's Eve last year was a best discount of the year.

Apologies for daft question but can you upload them to Garmin GPSMAP or is it smartphone only?

You can export the .gpx for any route and upload to devices that accept .gpx

Was holding out hoping to pay £14 for this like last year, but in the end bought for £20.39 today. Off on a walking trip next weekend and is really useful to print out maps in advance and use the app out and about.

Top Cash Back tracked (pending) in 30 mins for £4.25.
