Had Osram bulbs (bought when on offer at Amazon )since I got the Echoes in November . No problems so far and so much more affordable than the way overpriced Hue and Hive ones .

The question isn't to buy or not, but how many do I need?
Forgive my ignorance here but do these just hook up to your wifi and you control from an app or do you need a hub arrangement for them to go via first ??

No you don't need a Hub with these . They connect via the "Smart Life " App ,free to download on IStore or Google play . The App then connects to Alexa and you can voice control them ( I presume the same applies to Google Home ).
OP, thank you for illuminating us to this hot deal!

i think you need to check that statement. Pretty sure you need a zigbee hub. they fact you say alexa means maybe you have an echo plus or show which can act as a hub. The reviews suggest this is a zigbee bulb

Read the Amazon offer - No Hub required . You can control the lights with the Smartlife app and can control the app with an echo dot . I now have an Echo plus but when I first got these smart lights and plugs I just had the Dot which worked them fine .

All the instructions are on the Amazon page if you care to peruse .

Does Hive hub use zigbee?

Does Hive hub use zigbee?

Dont know im afraid only looked into philips hue zigbee wise due to the hue go lamp (which is what i really liked
Does anyone else know please? Google seems to give conflicting views.
Think I have the wrong Osram "smart bulb " . Never seen this one before All the Osram smart bulbs I have seen previously are the smart life compatible ones .

So you can get similar multicolour Osram bulbs that are enabled by the smart life app , but it appears that this particular one needs a ZigBee hub (Echo Plus ) . My apologies for misleading anyone .

If you haven't got an Echo Plus there are lots of Osram bulbs /plugs /switches that work without a hub . It will be in the title "No Hub required " .
All the reviews seem to say you need a hub.

You need a Zigbee hub. Hue Bridge, Osram Gateway, Echo Plus etc. for these to work with an app, and have things like control over scheduled times, and scenes etc.

Although you can have them without a hub as long as you pair the bulbs with a Zigbee remote, like the Osram Switch, or Tradfri Remote etc.
Will these be recognised on the official hue app and be controllable

Thru a hue hub...yes.
I have 2 which hue and Google recognise as extended colour light #1 and so on. They give a brighter more natural light straight from the off although their colour refinement is not as much as hue. I use these in my bedrooms and hall.

From what I have just read on google, the straight answer is yes.
Hive and Hue both run on the zigbee protocol.

I hope this helps.
Belated thanks for posting this deal! - I spent a few hundred on Prime day, and this was without a doubt the best deal I managed to make use of, so thanks for the heads up on this one!
