Looks very impressive

I got one for this price a couple of months ago. Very impressed with it.

Paid about £225 for this in the last Bank Holiday sale... very nice bit of kit. Build quality is excellent.

One of the best bbq's at this price, love my one.

Do you have to assemble yourself or is it already done?

Identical to our meteor, very happy with ours. Took me about 90 mins to build, our meteor came with lava rocks but this doesn't mention them but it means you could probably buy the meteor lava rock rack if you wanted it. It's not clear here but I think this may be 50/50 grill and griddle.

£150 now!

Yup, £149.93 now

Looking at the photos looks like only 25% is a hot plate which I think is ideal as I have a meteor and don't like that 50% is hot plate.

I was actually finishing my order, when it said the item was unavailable, tried a few times and it was the same. My mistake, did manage to complete it now. Great find OP

Great price, was tempted but no charcoal, no rock? So basically a gas hob not a barbeque then?

Thanks for this. I was in the market for a BBQ. I was going to wait until next year but this was such a good deal it twisted my arm.

Lava rocks make no difference. Flavour comes from juices from the food dripping down, hitting a hot surface, vaporising, and then rising back up to the food. When it comes to rocks vs 'flavouriser bars' the main difference is one of them is more difficult to clean than the other.

Similarly, the old 'charcoal vs gas' debate is nonsense. Don't believe me? This comes straight from Nathan Myhrvold, one of the authors of Modernist Cuisine and a championship winning BBQ cook.

If I hadn't picked up an ex-display Weber 47cm last week I'd have been all over this. Gas is just massively more convenient.

We've got a Char broil three burner gas with flavouriser bars and we are so pleased with it. The food tastes fantastic and the BBQ is so much more easier to control than charcoal. That's not to say I don't enjoy food cooked on a charcoal BBQ, I absolute do...but cooking BBQ food properly on a charcoal BBQ takes so much more time. I love the convenience of gas, it allows us to be more spontaneous about BBQ'ing without having all the planning and fuss.

Thanks - your post encouraged me to buy. Are the 'flame tamers' on this bbq effectively the same as flavouriser bars?

Yeah. They're just bits of metal over the naked flame to shield the food from the fire and reduce flare-ups.

Contrary to popular belief, food + fire isn't necessarily a good thing. It's the heat you want. Cooking with the lid down will help to produce that BBQ'd taste by trapping the vapourised juices.

Have ordered thanks OP as current BBQ a rust bucket! Thanks too for the helpful comments about this model - persuaded me to go for it. Not holding out much hope of it arriving though as it couldn't give me a delivery date which probably means I will get an oos call or email. Will see what happens...

Yeah I placed an order for the red one this morning, but because the delivery date wasn't confirmed I've also ordered a black one. So will try and cancel the other order when one turns up. Strangely it didn't charge me delivery for the red one but did for the black one - both confirmation emails say it's for home delivery though.

Heat, that's a great price

Thanks about all the helpful comments about this great deal. Does anyone know if you can actually replace the heat spreaders on this with lava baskets? And any good suggestions for cheap propane suppliers? Ta

Hi, I don't believe you can with the Apollo range. If you really want lava rocks then look at the Hunter an Meteor range. Robert Dyas did have a good deal on the Hunter 4 burner a little while back.

it's a shame reserve and collect has ended as i would of had one, i'm not taking a day off to wait in for it

The Outback 3 piece tool set goes nicely with your BBQ too. I picked one up tonight when I collected a parasol that I reserved. Bargain at £9.93 (Reduced from £30!)

Managed to pick the last red one up at my local for £119. Staff discount thanks

The pictures on the website of homebase on the the black bbq shows that it takes lava rocks

That's right, this appears to be an older model, potentially using some cheaper components made specifically for Argos/homebase . I can't wait to receive mine to check if burners are cast iron, and if grills are porcelain coated. Homebase just texted me delivery is delayed
