I was metal detecting a while ago....I started digging after getting a really good indication. I kept digging as the signal was strong .....It was only when I got to about two and a half metres down I remembered I was wearing steel toe capped boots......
No match for the CTX 3030

Great for kids. . If they get hooked buy a Garret Ace 150 in an Amazon Warehouse sale (nothing in there at the min) or similar.
Useful item at the moment. Scan the garden about a million times

my partner brought me a top of the range one few yrs ago for xmas. We went to the beach on boxing day.
Like you my partner was getting a strong signal, starting digging, signal still as strong, hole was getting bigger. Then i asked if the boots he had on was steel toe caps. Like you they was hole was filled in and no goodies found.

Early last year I was looking for a decent Garret... Found one on ebay, complete kit - top spec - everything you could ever need plus more... Used but in excellent condition... Sold for just over £150. Like getting in to aquatics, always best to start off with buying a 2nd hand aquarium because you get so much more for your £...
Definitely worth bargain hunting, you'd rather be wanting to discriminate as much crap out as possible or the new hobby will soon become expensive and tiresome... Also worth watching the likes of Nugget Noggin on YouTube, join a few FB groups etc for advice etc.
A good hobby if you have the time and permission to go on farmland. I've found gold rings and coins with my Goldmax Power. And a few Roman items, brooches, Anglo saxon brooches all in bits. I can tell by the sound if it's worth digging .

Diggin Britt is equally entertaining, but with less scripture.
Good perhaps for beachcombing or something simple, but I think for somebody who is planning to spend many hours walking fields then investing a little more money is sensible (eg. the Garrett Ace). No point spending a days going over fields with something subpar.

thanks took your advice
When you get it, i know you cant get out with it, but just go round the garden and get use to it.
But when the beaches open, thats when your start to get your treasure.
Not ever time, is hit and miss. But is fun. Hope you enjoy it 😁

Just checked. I got my Garret Garrett Ace 150 for £88 and my Euro Ace 250 for £102 from Amazon Warehouse , complete and boxed. How jammy was that. These are really decent machines as i'm sure you know from your own experience and are a significant step up from the Chinese imported stuff.

For the those delving into this hobby beach-combing is a great start for beginners and you can have a look at the Crown Estate map for where you can and cant detect.thecrownestate.co.uk/med…pdf
Meets are ok but they are a bit of a money spinner. If theres a club near you i'd join it. Obtain National Council membership and abide by the rules.

When we are allowed back out of captivity this could be a great and informative fun for the kids/family. ncmd.co.uk/mem…uk/

That was a really good bargain you found. well done.
You can look around and get some good deals.
But to put anything on this site there is a lot of rules and regulations. So was looking for a good deal to put on here.
And good idea putting the links up.
These deals were from a couple of years ago and were almost certainly with a 20% discount in the Warehouse. I did see some last year during Black Friday and posted a message on a club website. Last year Costco had a really good deal for a metal detector which someone posted on HUKD. I am generally hopeless at finding deals and my last few attempts were kicked out by the Mods as I hadnt quite got things right.
If ive got information or advice about a product I have I will always share it as with this one.

Thank you for posting btw

Is hard finding a post that they will accept on here. Ive posted loads that have been turned down.
But when you do find some that the mods will accept on this site. You always get ppl saying its cheaper else where. Not that i dont know that, just your not able to post them on here as the other sellers dont have enough feed back or high enough feed back and not been advertising long enough.
But i guess it safe guards us from not getting ripped off from people. But your deal youve advised gets voted cold as its advice cheaper on a different site.
But if i put a deal on and it helps one person then im happy with that
And you are welcome.

Yes you have to watch what detector you buy as some are not suitable for the beach due to all the minerals in the sand and copper in the rocks.

For a beginner i started on an old Maplin detector when i wur a lad and on our first day out my dad found a gold rolex watch and we found an old cannon in the sea at Culzean castle - its now up in the castle didn't even get a word of thanks either lol handed the rolex into the police and never heard antoher word either should just have kpet it - never found anything after that first day lol

After watching deep digger dan on youtube 4 years ago i started up again with a Garrett Ace 250 perfect for the beginner then moved on to the best of the best the XP Deus.

You will find with these cheap ones they all have the same penetration distance so there isnt any advantage going for the more expensive one in this price range the only difference is the ergonomics - discrimination etc are pretty mcuh the same.

If you want to get into it properly you are looking at £200 for a decent starter detector!

Everyone thinks beaches are the place to detect - yeah if you go into the water when the tide is out because as i have found all the good stuff is out at sea not on the beach - the best places are actually under trees particularly the base of the tree its where a lot of stuff is found, in old walls and use google maps to find land abnormailities and research battle and ancient historical castles and landmarks will do more than the beach - doing the beach thing is for fun really you will not find more than old ring pulls and cans in my experience although i did find a viking spearhead near the monument at the Battle Of Largs!

If its money then surprisingly i have found loads of pound coins at bus stops and around the benches in public parks where people sit you just got to use yer noodle and think where folks would lose their cash , watches , rings etc

Get yourself a neodymium magnet diver for more magnet diving fun in rivers it will add to your experience and chance of finding summat!
