They should have a 3 year warranty with Intel though.

Good price CPU for someone building a budget PC imo.

AFAIK all retail Intel CPUs have a 3 year warranty with the manufacturer. I don't see why a b-grade product wouldn't continue to have a manufacturer's warranty.

I think the 90 day warranty is with Overclockers.

If Intel would be willing to honour the warranty it would be from the original purchase date (or even manufacture date), seeing as the 4460 launched 30 months ago, I wouldn't bank on getting a long warranty from Intel. However, this would be covered by the consumer rights act, so you should have at least a 6 month warranty from Overclockers, although getting Overclockers to honour their legal obligations can be quite an arduous experience.

I wouldn't really worry about buying used CPUs though, used CPUs are generally quite a safe buy as they're relatively durable (as long as they haven't been misfitted or too heavily abused). It's a good price, I don't know why this is so cold.

Probably for the best as I might have been tempted with an unnecessary upgrade from my i3

You may be right but I've not seen a faulty cpu for years (maybe 15) and I sell pc's all the time..i buy second hand CPU's all the time as well to save just 10 or 15%.. Obviously you might get a dud but it's highly unlikely.
