Not a bad little app that allows you to borrow audio and e-books for free from your local library. They're automatically 'returned' after 21 days (unless you renew them), but quite a wide selection to choose from. I had to email my library in order to activate my overdrive account as it doesn't automatically recognise your library card no. It has numerous libraries listed worldwide (including schools and universities) but you do have to be a member of those libraries in order to borrow items from their stock. Will post overdrive's user guide in 1st comment.

Is there any way to use the app if your local library is not listed?
New version of it is called 'Libby' which is supposed to be better. I have both on the go.
Does it allow users to borrow dictionaries?

Ahh, someone who understands Rene difference between 'borrow' and 'lend'. You, my dear sir, do not need a dictionary!
I fear your cynical comment had fallen onto an intellectual wasteland.

The Welsh language uses the same word for 'borrow' & 'lend' (benthyg), which can make things interesting!

You can pick any library in the County as your Library card makes you a member of all of them.
You can also borrow E-magazines from the library.
Thanks, will check this out

Worth going to your library website and finding out what name it goes by! I could not find mine via overdrive, but went via the library, and was then able to add search isn't very good for your library, unless exact name,
Also note some libraries are pushing libby by overdrive, which is supposed to be simpler, you may like the format, it is also free. But I prefer this, once able to add my local libary.
Thank you so much! I am looking forward to having my chosen book read to me when having a bath - no more wet pages
If you use Android then take a look at general-reader.com/
This is great. There are some books that I was thinking about paying to reserve at my local library but now I can get them for free on my phone/tablet. However, it's a shame that Overdrive is not supported on Kindle Ereaders in the UK (like it is in the US) because they are my favourite reading device.
Overdrive is the old app and being discontinued. Search for the replacement - Libby it's far more user friendly and uses your overdrive account. Also see if your library offers the RB digital app for free magazines and one click digital audio books.
Also not all authors will allow their titles to be available on overdrive (Libby) so you may not get all your favourites on it. Also licensing of the publications varies from publisher so you may sometimes find a book available one week but next month it's gone.

Thanks rexdare. Yes, my 1st comment links to the overdrive help page which suggests downloading the Libby app. That RB digital app looks good as well
Does anyone know if you can make this work if none of your county libraries show up?

No. Have you tried contacting your county library to see if they're signed up to use the service? Even though I'm a member of a library in the suburbs, I contacted the main branch and they were the ones who set up my account. Sorry can't be of more help, eldaras.

Thanks @twitwoo ! I finally made it work (I did go to the library, but the voluteers weren't aware of OverDrive).

To make it work, I first had to go to my county website, find the library section, and there was a link to OverDrive, which included the library id/code/number/whatnot :D.

Thanks again for sharing this!!!
