Why?

The short version is a pro gamer playing a Blizzard game made a pro Hong Kong statement in an interview and Blizz heavily punished both them and 2 interviewers (who had nothing to do with it except being onscreen at the time). After a week's radio silence in the face of resulting protests/ boycotts/ people quitting working for them they eventually released a pretty sorry excuse for a response (incidentally date/ timestamped with the time in China rather than the US where they are based) and reduced but did not totally reverse those punishments claiming it had nothing to do with politics.

If you Google 'Blitzchung' and look at the last 2 weeks of stories you'll get a more complete picture (although if you're not up to date with the Hong Kong protests and the politics behind them you'd need to also research that for context) but that's the story in a nutshell. Unsurprisingly people have taken Blizzard shutting down a pro democracy statement against an oppressive totalitarian regime as being anti democracy and Blizzard have subsequently got a lot of (entirely deserved) heat for it.

#BoycottBlizzardActivision

One should always boycott activiison. How many beloved games have they not ruined? Blizzard are in the same boat now. The good old days are gone, shame some people still see these companies with rose tinted glasses.
