OVIVO Mobile are a great little firm offering free SIM only contracts in return for a couple of seconds of adverts when you connect to the internet over GPRS. They run over the Vodafone network and they have just increased their monthly free package to 150mins, 200 texts and now 500MB data so it is certainly a viable package for a low to medium user. All you have to do is buy the SIM card for £15 and the rest is free! If you use more than your monthly allowance then you have £15 of call credit with your SIM (which you can top up - calls are 8p/min, texts are 5p each).

They have some higher use packages with associated monthly costs as well but the real value is in their free package. The adverts really aren't a problem.

Here's the blurb...

Seems the adverts use very little of the data allowance. Just found this Tweet on the Ovivo website:

Michael ‏@aboyonline 12 Jun
@ovivomobile does the advert on opening a browser typically use about 3mb!? My data quickly disappears because of this if its the case?

OVIVO Mobile @ovivomobile
@aboyonline no very low levels of data, typically less than 30-40kB

Just ordered one thanks - My current contract has come to an end!

Have some Heat

Hate paying expensive mobile bills

If I go for the data only tablet sim, can I put this in a MiFi wifi dongle to create a Wifi hotspot to enable use on the Ipad?

Any Ovivo users out there who can advise on how good (or bad) this provider is?

Yes I have been a customer since beginning of the year. Great service - it is the Vodaphone network. I use it for both phone and tethering to my laptop when on the train. Cannot fault it so far especially as it does not cost anything after initial payment!

All my family and friends have been on ovivio since the sims was £5 and I havn't got a bad word to say about them.

I get a steady 4mbps at my house but like all sims there is bound to be dead spots.

How long does it take to port phone number over? Is it immediate or do you need to wait a while?.

..."a couple of seconds of adverts when you connect to the internet..." Only a couple of seconds??

I took one out for my nephew last month... does anyone happen to know if the increase in data allowance is applied to existing customers?

They show you one page of ads when you open the browser, you scroll down to the bottom and click skip - tada!

I am in Greece now and having problems with it, roaming is active but yesterday evening decided to stop working.
Get no signal for calls but if I turn the mobile network on I'll get h or 3g for browsing, but still an X of no signal.
Weird.
Ovivo are quite quick responding your quires but they haven't come up with a fix yet.

I used them when the tariffs were smaller and they we great for me, excellent customer service and general coverage - signal / data was fine. I'm going to go back after my current contract finishes.

yes at the next roll over date

EliTom

Works fine for me, my whole family is on it now.

Only issue is most of the time it settles on Edge speed instead of H for me, so a little slow, but for basic stuff like reading twitter & news it's perfectly fine.

can anyone confirm how much per MB it costs if you go over the free allowance, also do you need to ring to port your old number to them, or is there a option online when u sign in to do this?

yes advert page for upto 5 seconds then you can clear it

you *may* get teh same if you access the internet after a few hours - but not every time

adverts do not appear on the likes of facebook / twitter / email accounts - only via browser

EliTom

nothing but praise from me

I have been with them for nearly a year and they are the best company I have ever used, customer service is spot on too

Been with Ovivo for few months. It's a no brainer. I tune into Jazz Minouchè internet radio when I'm walking around all the time knowing it isn't costing me a dime. Half the country should be with these guys. True hidden gem so far.

dont get it, why its hot? I have network 3 rolling contract £12.5 a month. 600mins, 3000txt, unlimited internet and still think i paying a lot.

If a user uses their 150mins or 200 texts or the 500MB of data, you then start eating into the £15 credit.

What happens when or if the £15 gets used ? ........................... I suppose you then need to top up again with another £15. oO

and yes CS is UK based - and via normal London number

and yes they are really good - call you back if busy and the lady even recognised it was my birthday the other day when I called and offer to sin Happy Birthday to me

correct

EliTom

The sim only contract is wonderful and just what I need for my ipad as I am a light user and saves me from using my iphone. I am not a heavy user so it does the trick, i purchased a £10 sim card in January. I still have the £10 available should I wish to make calls and I get 400MB a month which works a treat. IMO, their customer service is excellent and they respond to emails within an hour and their staff are brilliant. On 2 seperate ocassions I have had 2 staff call me back just to make sure the service had been restored. I really cant complain at a one-off £10 sim. The adverts for 3 seconds is a small price to pay

the £15 is a one off payment and is added as credit to the account

if you stay within teh allowance your credit does not reduce - i.e. you pay NOWT per month thereafter

It's hot because I havent paid more than £10 since January and still have the £10 credit available, beat that. Basically I get free internet

These not gone bust yet?

Can you use this in ps vita 3g?

Isn't it cheaper to just use Giffgaff? oO

I have. I just can't figure how this is a better deal.

SolidWarrior

it depends how much data you need

if you can do with 500mb per month then its better

if you need unlimited / 1gb per month then GG is probably a better bet

but this is £15 one off payment then £0/month if you stay within the allowance

EliTom

Ovivo are great.

I got it for my mum last August when it was still £5.
she still has £6 credit!! (as she introduced her partner to it for a bonus)

I thought they would have cut minutes or gone out of business by xmas. instead they have added a lot more.

for light users nothing beats it. Just a shame I'm not...
