OVIVO Mobile are a great little firm offering free SIM only contracts in return for a couple of seconds of adverts when you connect to the internet over GPRS. They run over the Vodafone network and they have just increased their monthly free package to 150mins, 200 texts and 400MB data so it is certainly a viable package for a low end user. All you have to do is buy the SIM card for £15 and the rest is free! If you use more than your monthly allowance then you have £15 of call credit with your SIM (which you can top up - cals are 8p/min, texts are 5p each)>

They have some higher use packages with associated monthly costs as well but the real value is in their free package. The adverts really aren't a problem.

Here's the blurb...

Set your Mobile FREE!

Sounds really interesting. How exactly do the adverts work???
their paid packages seem a bit expensive for what you get but the free one's been good to me for the last 11 months, best five pounds i ever spent.
There are also brand new T&Cs from today 15/4!

The ONLY downside previously that I'd noticed with their setup was that any top-up - eg the initial £xx to get the SIM - was that any UNUSED top-up expired 360 days after it was topped-up. Hence anything unused from the initial £5... £10... £15 [it kept going up over the last year!] was going to die less than a year after getting your SIM.

However now it's more about keeping the phone active:

"5.4 We reserve the right to suspend the Service if your Account remains inactive for a consecutive period of 60 days. Should you make or receive a chargeable or non-chargeable call/text/data transfer during this period, your account will remain active.
"5.5 Further, We reserve the right to terminate the Service if following suspension under clause 5.4, your account remains inactive for a further period of 120 days
"5.6 Further, We reserve the right to delete your account and any credit remaining on your account, if following termination under clause 5.5, your account remains inactive for a further period of 180 days"

Definitely makes it more attractive! Been very happy using the free allowance on my January £10 SIM from a previous HUKD when the free benefits were less generous!

MKD

PS.
Historically when they have changed the free benefits - eg 100 -> 150 texts now - the new allowance applies from your next monthly anniversary (ie date & time when you first topped up).

Oh come on! Nearly two hours old and not a single person has posted to say they are going bust, the business model does not work blah blah blah etc while the rest of us who have been happy with them for months get an increasingly good deal
I'm going to join, anyone want to recommend me as a friend for the £3 credit? You would need to PM me your ovivo mobile no for me to enter it on the registration form.

Took this deal last time and I have nothing but praise for this company. Fantastic customer service. If you are a small user this deal is ideal !
Any £50 Quidco maybe??
been using them for a couple of months on my workphone (pay for sim freedom plan),plenty enough for that and can honestly say i have had no problems with connection (voda) and data speeds have been v.good too!

as mizstar has said though, the pay monthly packages seem a bit steep but as i say,the freedom plan works for my workphone

This is against forum rules.
Can you use this with an iphone 5?
So this deal should come with dual sim Mobiles, coz 150 min is not enough.
I signed up for this a couple of months ago, along with my whole family, works great with the "Freedom" package.

Those new paid packages are just horrible though! To go from £0 to £9 just for adding a measly 100mins, 200 txt & 100mb is just ridiculous, should start around £2.50 and go up from there.
What are the adverts like, mega annoying or easy to get rid of?
How is this a deal, this has been like this for ages now. COLD

HOT HOT HOT will do me Thanks OP
Are they out of their problem of being hugely in debt to Vodafone? At one stage they were close to going bust. Have had 12 months of trading yet? I'd like to give this offer a go. The Allowances should be fine for me
I'm also a happy customer, but the new non-Freedom packages make little sense to me unless they were planning to take a sword to the free Freedom plan (the increase in Freedom texts suggests that this is not in their immediate plans!)

I suspect that these plans (Freedom and non-Freedom) will continue to evolve until Ovivo finds the right balance between bringing in monthly plan revenue and maintaining word-of-mouth recommendations through the Freedom plans. In the meantime they will presumably continue to rely on the new sign-up income to fill some of the shortfall that ad revenue from this month on may bring.
great deal all off my kids have them. the data with Vodafone ids bit great round here but great for low volume users hot ! use a an instant messaging service like WhatsApp to bump up the texts allowance

got one of these for the missus when they first came out, had no problems... soon as can get my stupid lumia 920 unlocked il be getting myself one..
I joined up a couple of months ago, but I use the data only plan. Same join up cost (£15), but I get 500mb of data which I can use in my Vodafone mifi unit, to tether to my Nexus tablet.

Sliwka, the amount of allowance time for calls etc isn't huge, but the allowance is free after the one off sim card payment. It's not a monthly fee, unless you choose to pay a monthly fee to increase your allowance.

I only paid £5 for the same deal last year.

Me too
Can't get mms working on Android 4.2.2 though, it just says 'sending' - anyone on 4.2.2. care to share what works for them?
It's annoying having one person without WhatsApp!
Got 2 sims last week. Great for my kids who use whatsapp and facebook out of the house now as the payg data is a bit pricey on other networks
I rarely use all my contract sim allowances which are pretty modest. Am such an unsociable person... I don't download stuff either. Going to get me an OVIVO, my contact ends in a couple of months. Will be one less bill to pay even if it's just £7 per month usually.
One question...Does the Freedom plan have Voicemail, and is there any charges for this? (i.e, cost of checking voicemail etc).
I can recommend them, I never get close to using all the minutes and texts. However, the data network did seem to disappear last Friday for a good few hours. Still can't complain. I assume that they are going to ramp up their advertising as currently I don't even get any.

I am running 4.2.2 cm10.1 on my tab 2 - 7.0. I had to manually add the APN (MMS / Internet settings) details as automatic setup is not supported for devices with custom roms / rooting etc.

I used the following page to guide me:

Setup Guide

I have noticed though that that page has been updated with a play store app that allows you to setup the APN through simply selecting the APN from a list:

Tweakker app

Once this is done you should have full MMS & Internet access, may need to restart though.
They are doing new packages for more talktime/text/data as some people don't want to move and will pay when their usage goes up. Also many companies buy for their mobile staff and some need more allowance than others. All good as they make more money and we can stay with the basic 15 quid per year package. These pricing packages will ensure their future.

I only found out about them 6 weeks ago. Very good service from them. Got my data settings sorted. I'll be buying a dual sim quad android phone from the orient soon as I have unlimited data on another sim. Wish I knew of this much earlier like some here. Best deal for mobiles in the UK unless you need more than 150min per month like some for business, gobbers, or chatty kids etc.

After a couple of months it is pure profit. £1.25 per month for 150mins/200txts/400MB ? No brainer.
Giff gaff 15 quid 240 mins to any network unlimited internet unlimited texts and free giff gaff to Giff gaff makes this deal look freezing

Yeah but thats £15 a MONTH. Ovivo is £15 a Year, possibly even longer.

(I have used them for six month, paid £5 to join and not a penny since. It's utterly bizarre).
How will this SIM work with a phone where you cannot view adverts? Just a normal phone not a smartphone.
Just enter APN settings to enable data, their online PDF has an error for MMS PROXY titled wrongly as MMS PORT. I left MMS Port blank and works fine, port fields do not take a 4 part IP number as their pdf says anyway. I corrected it as below.:

Android v4.x Internet & MMS Settings

1. Find "Access Point Names"
• Press the menu icon.
• Press Settings.
• Press Wireless and network.
• Press Mobile networks.
• Press Access Point Names.
2. Create new data connection
• Press the Menu key.
• Press New APN.
3. Enter data connection name
• Press Name and key in OVIVO then press OK.
4. Enter APN
• Press APN.
• Enter gprsconnect.com
• Press OK to confirm.
5. Leave Username and password Blank
6. Enter MMSC
• Press MMSC.
• Enter mms.gprsconnect.com/ser…mms
• Press OK to confirm.

OVIVO is changing its internet settings and by the 15th June, the gprsconnect.com APN will no longer provide Internet access, but will still be available for MMS. Our settings guides have been updated and we will be contacting you with new settings throughout the course of May.
ovivomobile.com/set…es/
ovivomobile.com/mob…id/

7. Enter MMS Proxy (NOT PORT AS IN THEIR PDF)
• Press MMS Proxy.
• Enter 212.183.137.12
• Press OK to confirm.
8. Enter country code
• Press MCC.
• Key in 234 and press OK.
9. Enter network code
• Press MNC.
• Key in 15 and press OK.
10. Select authentication type
• Press Authentication type.
• Press None.
11. Select APN type
• Press APN type.
• Enter default,supl,mms,dun,fota
12. Save and activate data connection
• Press the Menu key.
• Press Save to save the data connection.
• Press the field next to OVIVO to mark the field and to activate the data connection.
13. Exit
• Press the Home key to return to standby mode.

Leave others blank or default as is.
