The OWL is the first readily accessible hand-held energy saving device to help you save the planet, as well as your pocket. Using the OWL allows you to see the amount of energy we waste in our homes, as it measures the electrical usage of our home appliances. If we then respond by changing our behaviour towards energy use, the OWL really can help us make a difference in the fight against climate change.

What section are they in instore? will go and have a look in a bit, been after one of these

I managed to get one of these inthe Daily Mail offer - just paid £2.92 for postage with voucher collect. Took over three months to arrive though!

Very good device - highly recommended. Not a bad wireless range either. Prepare for some shocks on energy usage though!

Were £18 in B&Q when they had them.

These are old version which doesn't store data - just provides instant readout.

You also need an extra sensor if you're on Economy 7.

Is this the same idea as the Lidl: Energy Monitor - £6.84!! starts 12/02/2009 posted by melted...

I remember a post last year for these and I said I thought they were a stupid idea . There not and I want one now . I do want to know what items use the most electricity in my home .

No. The Lidl one is like the Maplin version - power usage of one item at a time, rather than your usage in the house. This is wireless too.

Anything generating heat mate. Put the kettle on, toaster on, tumble dryer on. You don't need this to tell you that leaving a light on/putting the tv on etc all use electricity.

If you want to save on bills then only use whatever you need, ie if the clothes could dry rather than put in the tumble dryer then you would save energy/money.

Can never understand why people need these things to tell them that they are using electricity, my brain tells me I'm using electricity. If you don't need it on then turn it off, simple as that!

Yeah, yeah - we know! But you try convincing the missus and kids of that!

We, too, got one of these free of charge through the Daily Mail. By seeing the read-out soar upwards whenever they switch something on, my family are at last realising the cost of electricity, and beginning to be more careful.

Save yourself £24 - just switch things off when you're not using them
