Looks like you're going to learn very soon ;-) ... don't forget to find out how to un-weld stuff, for when you lock youself in the garage after welding the door shut.

Same here, but I still want it. But no stock near me so I will be deprived of the learning experience . On the plus side, I won't be sat waiting in my local A&E all night with a metal bar welded to me, and they will have 1 less fail on their <4hour patient target.(which i'd be surprised if Bradford's A&E ever managed to meet).
Arc welding can be quite tricky (I found anyway). Great for welding big thick dods of metal together but difficult not to burn holes in thinner stuff.
For those who cannot find it in homebase you can get from eBay for a few quid more

These AC welders are ok for thick metal 2mm plus but can be hard to use and learn on.

Face shield is next to useless. You really need to use both hands to hold and brace when welding. Auto-darkening mask/helmet worth getting but decent one will cost a lot more than this unit.
I've brought one of these but it doesn't come with a plug, will it be safe to wire into a standard 13amp plug and use from the mains?
Strictly speaking on full power this will draw more than the 13 amp plug and socket are capable of supplying, a spur from your consumer unit as is done for an electric shower or cooker would be best using a higher power plug and socket, an electrician can advise you.
Having said this I bought a similar unit for my brother , fitted it with a 13 amp plug and gave him a bag of 13 amp fuses, to this day he hasn't blown a fuse but he doesn't use it at its highest setting. These units are not the easiest to learn on so have a look on youtube and protect your eyes.with a proper lcd mask.
