Not well sign-posted in the description, but they're Cherry Black MX keys.

Sorted first time posti here so expectig to screw up the protocol a bit, Looking at the board and reviews seems to me as its the same board as a Thermaltake Meka G1 or qpad mk 80 without the backlighting. Got one on order so will see when it arrive's

Magic, ordered one from Argos already.. still wondering if I should have gone with Cherry MX Black over the Reds?

Original Poster

My first mech oard so i went for the lack option purely because i wanted the usb and audio ports

Man, if only it was brown or blue, I would've bought it in an instant!

Damn, I just paid £50 for a Corsair a week ago.

Do you think Amazon would price match this or the Qpad? Was planning on getting the Logitech G710+ but might opt for this.

Edit: Thanks OP, bought the QPad.

Give this man a round of applause for the best reason to vote cold ever.

This is pretty cheap, does this keyboard have cherry switches or is it some cheap knock off ones like those on the zalman keyboard? Almost tempting to pick up just to try out black keys.

One of the reviews I read said that the passthrough audio was really bad. Microphone was fine but the sound was a lot lower quality. Possibly a bad batch but check that out.

Really tempted to get one.

More cashback too

Do you think this reviewer got a dud one as they report signs of wear to the finish: computershopper.com/key…ike

Unsure whether to go for this. Price is great but wondering if backlighting and brown switches will be more useful. Is it likely to be very noisy typing on the Ozone?. Currently using a Logitech Wave Keyboard Y-UV90. That doesn't seem so quiet when typing on it! Just wondering if it is just a case of what you get used to using with regards to the different cherry swtiches.

Remember to use TCB/Quidco for approximately 1% cashback when buying from Game or Argos.

I was trying to avoid buying a mechanical keyboard with back lighting mainly due to not wanting it looking odd when the lights start failing post warranty. It also depends on how useful you see the back lighting as being.

Mechanical keyboards are noisy when typing on, some more than others. It might be worth having a looking online for some videos where there is a comparison of switches and their sounds. It might not be that accurate through pc audio, but at least you'll get a basic idea of how the sounds between the switches differ.

There is a nice little mechanical keyboard guide here OCUK

Thanks for the information.

On further research I have found out the Ozone Strike Pro is about to be released. Available in different Cherry swtiches (black, red, blue and brown). Includes customisable backlighting, internal 64k memory macros and some otther features. Supposed to cost around 90 EUR. So will probably end up costing £90 as things are rarely the equivalent currency conversion rate! Might be useful for someone spending that sort of money on a new keyboard. For double the cost of this Strike keyboard does not really seem worth it. Especially if opting for black switches. So makes this deal a bargain. Although currenty OOS with Game but in stock at Argos.

There are so many variables with the mechanical keyboards it makes it difficult to wholeheartedly commit to knowing which variable suits an individual purely through the web. I've been into two of the large PC Worlds in my area and although they have some mechanical keyboards in stock, they refuse to open any boxes so potential buyers can work out which switch they prefer. Its a shame really.

I was wanting a brown switch keyboard initially with them supposedly being well balanced for both typing and gaming. I was considering the reds with them requiring a softer key press for a key register. I was tempted to buy the Ducky Shine or the Filco keyboards initially because of their solid build quality, but the fact you only get a one year warranty was one of the things that put me off.

For now I've ordered the QPad as i'd previously read good reviews/personal experiences about it. Excited to try the red switches particularly to see how it improves my typing speed and in game navigation.

And I just thought that a keyboard was a keyboard. Apologies for a noob dumb question, but what is a mechanical keyboard and why does it attract a premium price? Just asking cos I use a keyboard all day long and this looks like another HUKD item I must need.....just like my dymo label printer and HP microserver - both impulse purchases but really glad I got them.....

This link has a nicely explained guide.

In short, mechanical keyboards have a longer lifespan due to the types of switches under the keys. The switches also help reduce finger fatigue so you will find that your fingers aren't aching after typing/gaming sessions. The various types of switches the keyboards come with differ with the amounts of force required for a successful keypress. If you read that guide above, it gives you a breakdown of the different switches and to what task they are most suited for.

A shame the different keyboards cherry switch variants are not easily available to try out. Perhaps they don't want kids running round bashing on the keys in PC World and similar stores...although they have laptops and tablets on display to try out.

I put in an order for the Ozone keyboard last night from Argos as Game was showing as OOS at the time. Game had it in stock again this morning. Unsure which is the better company to deal with. Hopefully I won't have any issues with the item though. Gome a little retro as apparently the Cherry MX black switches first came out in 1984 according to keyboardco.com/blo…es/

If anyone fances a top of the range keyboard:
amazon.co.uk/Mat…508

Okay so it is a specialist keyboard for different medical conditions/disability...a shame the price tag has to be so high for those really needing it.

My Argos order has been cancelled today due to no stock from their supplier Well done to those that got one of these or the Qpad. Hopefully some new mechanical keyboard deals at around this price will soon show up on hukd.

Wish i'd ordered from Game now. Nevermind.

Argos Phoned..
Said the Qpak was posted on the 3rd but awaiting conformation of additional stock from supplier for the Strike
Still hopefull but not holding my breath!

Mine cancelled too but don't worry I'll get my money back in 5 days. Quick enough to take it though eh!

Those of us that have been told that our order has been cancelled, what is your online order tracking status stating?

Mine states:

We're sorry but we can't provide an online update for this order. For more information please call us on 0845 XXX XXXX.

Shame as I wanted to order from Game and it was OOS when I went to order. Ordered from Argos and then saw the next morning Game had it back in stock. Didn't order from Game as I was not too sure about Argos cancellation process. Basically I didn't want the hassle of receiving two keyboards and having to send back the Argos one if they had dispatched it.
