The mind-blowing true story of Pablo Escobar and the Medellín Cartel beyond their portrayal on Netflix.
Paperback is £10 - 73 Customer Reviews

Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar was a devoted family man and a psychopathic

killer; a terrible enemy, yet a wonderful friend. While donating millions to the poor, he bombed and tortured his enemies - some had their eyeballs removed with hot spoons. Through ruthless cunning and America's insatiable appetite for cocaine, he became a multi-billionaire, who lived in a $100-million house with its own zoo.
PABLO ESCOBAR: BEYOND NARCOS demolishes the standard good versus evil telling of Pablo's story. The authorities were not hunting Pablo down to stop his cocaine business. They were taking over it.
Shaun Attwood's WAR ON DRUGS SERIES - PABLO ESCOBAR, AMERICAN MADE, WE ARE BEING LIED TO and THE CALI CARTEL - are harrowing, action-packed and interlinked true stories that demonstrate the devastating consequences of drug prohibition.

Shaun Attwood is a London-based best-selling author with 100,000 copies sold.

Like the saying goes, if you cant be famous, be infamous. Although he was a scumbag of the highest order, it's still fascinating how much money these cartels make.

Yes, but its also free now without Kindle Unlimited.
Great spot! thanks!
Got this on paperback and to be honest its a pretty crap read. It was almost certainly started before the show came out and then hastily shoved out the door to profit of the TV show. Only twice does the show even get mentioned.

The writing is also really inconsistent and whole chapters consist of one line sentences that don't really link together to form a point or even really tell a story. They read like a list of bullet points made during a research session on Wikipedia rather than an actual book. It improves later on in the book but by then most will have lost interest.

Whole chapters are also dedicated to the US stance on drugs control, which sound more like a complaint about prohibition rather than scene setting. The whole book sort of evangelises Pablo and drugs in general and barely gives much look in to the DEAs investigation. Given that its written by a former drug dealer who still bitter about getting busted for selling pills at raves it suddenly becomes clear why there is so little objectivity in the book.

If you're really interested in this sort of thing I would recommend checking out the tour Steve Murphy and Javier Pena are doing in May.

PS - Please don't tell my partner I just wrote 3 paragraphs on why I hated the Birthday present she got me....
