Filmmaker Guillermo del Toro provides a unique take on the monster film with this sci-fi production. Charlie Hunnam (SONS OF ANARCHY) stars as a washed out pilot of a series of robots called Jaegers, which are put into production when Earth invaded by a species of giant monsters, the Kaijus. THE BROTHERS BLOOM's Rinko Kikuchi co-stars as a trainee whom Hunnam is psychically paired with in order to pilot the last beacon of hope - a decommisioned Jaeger aimed to stop the Kaijus once and for all. Idris Elba leads the rest of the starring cast, which includes Charlie Day. Rob Kazinsky and Ron Perlman.

One terrible movie. Can't believe idris Elba is in this movie. Worse they are making part 2.

good film, but you need to see it in 3d

You will notice that Blu-rays are absolutely tanking in price for a reason, because 4K Blu-ray is coming out very very soon and it is straightforward to re-release movies on 4K as all they have to do (or have already done) is scan the original film at 4K.

I think 4K will last for the foreseeable future (at least 2-3 decades) because it has been around for a while and 8K will never be practical due to it's bandwidth/size and the fact it is indistinguishable from 4K (unless your TV is 200 inches).

There is a massive difference between 1080p and 4K and I am investing in the latter. With HDR and extended colour range, the technology has pretty much hit a peak. Watching a Blu-ray on a 55-65"+ TV does not leave you in awe as you can see pixels and lack of quality. I sound like a nerd but trust me, no point in buying blu-rays, just wait for 4K (would look even more sweet once OLEDs become feasible).

Hmmm. Except tech companies absolutely LOVE to gaug the early investors. And new release blurays aren't coming down in price. This movie is 2 years old and regularly on this site. I'm guessing there are a lot of copies just sitting around.

Also:
- Most people have TVs 40" or smaller and really can not tell the difference with 4k.
- Remastering to 4k is not that easy. A lot of movies that were scanned at 4k or higher were downsized to 2k for their special effects. The special effects need to be fixed for 4k.
- More recent films that were shot digitally were not shot in 4k. They need to be remastered. Again - especially the special effects.

4K is nothing to do with blu-ray / DVD prices falling, sales of physical media are dropping due to, amongst other things, the likes of Netflix and digital downloads.

I don't know if it was you but I swear I read this exact comment word for word either here or on another website fairly recently. Do you happen to work for someone who has a particular interest in either killing blu-ray or selling 4k?

Anyway as another poster points out the most likely reason for price decline is because of streaming services. People said years ago that DVD was dead and yet new releases are still on DVD and sales are still good. I don't think people are ready to start replacing their collection AGAIN. Especially for the difference between blu-ray and 4k which for home use on an average screen less than ~65in is barely even noticeable.

With regards the deal, great price, voted hot. With regards the movie, I quite enjoyed it, don't expect a classic, expect an action movie along the lines of transformers.

It's the 3rd or 4th time that i've seen it posted in a blu-ray deal on here from him.

this film sucks - more like power rangers than starship troopers! soooo much worse than transformers

cheap i suppose

Which 55 inch shows pixels at 1080p? Mine doesn't and I sit barely 2m away.

How about you go to PC World or Sony store and stand 2m away from a 4K screen and you will see the difference.

Great I need a tea coaster.

Utter rubbish.

I sit about 3 metres from a 65" VT plasma and there are no pixels in evidence, just an awesome picture.

I won't be trading it in until OLED is more viable.

By the time that happens your plasma would have so much burn-in that you would think that you're viewing a photograph

Not sure if troll or special....

Definitely troll, just wants a rise on an

Thought I'd purchased 'Pacific Rimming'.

Fantastic film, nothing deep or political, just two awesome hours of well-choreographed, coherent destruction.

Pacific Rim *NEW & SEALED, lol.

Against my better judgement, I enjoyed this film - kind of like a live action Neon Genesis..a bit trashy, but fun. I don't buy movies anymore but this price is better than renting (streaming) an HD version.

love the film, can't think of many others i can describe as "exciting" but hong kong fight nearly had me cheering at the screen when i saw it at the cinema

got mine for £5 bluray/3d/uv version though - definitely a film that looks much better in HD. the entire concept is watching a robot punch an alien in the face repeatedly - you know if you will like it from that synopsis

this film is so good.. hot hot hot

I think this movie is great!! Have some heat

Right at the start of the film there was a voice-over describing how the first monsters appeared and they learnt to fight them; that might've made a good film.

Other than that I sat through it assuming that the cardboard cut-out characters were based on a graphic novel I'd never heard of which was probably much better written than this dross. Turns out it wasn't; somebody really thought; "I know, let's have some giant robots punch aliens in the face for 2 hours (was it really only 2 hours?). Don't worry about dialogue, or characters anyone cares about, or a plot, or anything... it'll look awesome and nobody will care!"

Not bad. But just today I found a random lonely blu-ray in Poundland of Anchorman 2. Which was quite exciting.

Personally Im still happy watching dvds and I suspect most people are. Not everybody is a hardcore film buff who obsesses over pixels.

Must watch film if nothing else for the special effects

Have some heat!

LOVE IT!

Today. Today... At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have … Today. Today... At the edge of our hope, at the end of our time, we have chosen not only to believe in ourselves, but in each other. Today there is not a man nor woman in here that shall stand alone. Not today. Today we face the monsters that are at our door and bring the fight to them! Today, we are *canceling* the apocalypse!

Don't waste your money, one of the worst modern films I've seen.

There is nothing else but the special effects..??

personally loved this film! giant robots & monsters... whats not to like? LOL

I know films like this are fantastical and not be taken too seriously, but there were several massive logical flaws in this film that spoilt it for me.
